A thick fog covered Sikou Yan’s heart, so dense she could not see the way forward.
She stood by the window and looked into the distance. Her gaze passed through layer after layer of tall buildings and landed on the top floor of an office tower.
She had said she would need a month to recover, but after only half a month, she was already fully healed. She had not touched the pills or immortal grass Bai Moqing had given her. Sikou Yan opened her hand, and an immortal herb glowing with faint purple light appeared in her palm.
Aster immortal grass was also called return-soul grass. As long as a person had one breath left, it could pull them back from death. However, one stalk of Aster immortal grass alone could not show its true effect. It was half medicine and half poison. The poison would make a person sleep without waking, and Qilin grass was needed to neutralize it.
“Sister Yan, the porridge is ready.” Xiao Qiao came out of the kitchen carrying a bowl of freshly cooked seafood porridge. Steam rose from it, carrying the sweet scent of razor clams and squid.
Seeing a flicker of light in Sikou Yan’s hand, Xiao Qiao paused. She looked carefully, then realized it was only sunlight reflecting through the window and falling across Sikou Yan’s palm.
She placed the porridge on the mat, set out the tableware, pulled out the chair, and turned to look at Sikou Yan.
Sikou Yan was still standing by the window. Under the sunlight, the outline of her figure looked slightly blurred, close enough to touch yet somehow out of reach.
Sikou Yan turned around. Seeing Xiao Qiao’s dazed gaze, she smiled faintly. “You have worked hard during this time.”
“It is what I should do.” Xiao Qiao returned to herself and smiled.
After half a month at the construction site, An Huaigu could finally return to the company.
Winter sunlight was not as scorching as summer sun. When it fell on the body, it felt warm all over. Because the sunlight was so gentle, An Huaigu had not put on sunscreen. In the end, without realizing it, she had changed from Fair Gu into Dark Gu.
“Sister An, how did you get this dark?” Bai Moqing was holding a cup and drinking water. Hearing several footsteps coming this way, she looked up and was so shocked she almost spilled the water in her cup.
“What do you think? Is this skin tone sexy?” An Huaigu strode to Bai Moqing’s side and wrapped an arm around Bai Moqing, who had just stood up. “This big sister finally does not have to stay at the construction site anymore!”
“If you keep hugging her, you can go back to the construction site again.” Tang Yue placed An Huaigu’s bag on the desk and looked at the two of them hugging.
An Huaigu quickly let go and pushed Bai Moqing away. After a pause, she draped an arm over Bai Moqing’s shoulder again. “I am not afraid. Little Bai would not bear to part with me.” She turned her head and raised a brow at Bai Moqing. “Did you miss me during this half month?”
Bai Moqing smiled and nodded.
Wen Rushui, who had gone to deliver documents to the president’s office, soon came out and knocked on the door. “Assistant An, President Xiao is looking for you.”
Her gaze swept over An Huaigu’s unruly hand, and she teased, “You are taking advantage of Little Bai again. Be careful President Xiao sends you to a branch company.”
If someone went to a branch company, they would need at least a year to come back. If a couple was separated and one side cheated, that would be interesting.
Wen Rushui seemed to glance at Tang Yue casually. She had heard some things about Assistant Tang’s private life. If Assistant An went to another city, who knew whether Tang Yue could endure loneliness?
Tang Yue sharply caught Secretary Wen’s look. She smiled and habitually lifted a hand to push up the bridge of her nose. Finding nothing there, she remembered she no longer wore glasses.
From those few words, An Huaigu caught a bit of information. She walked to the door and asked Secretary Wen, who was standing beside it, “President Xiao is sending someone to a branch company?”
Secretary Wen nodded. “The branch has run into trouble again.”
She could not say anything else. That would be leaking company secrets.
An Huaigu went to President Xiao’s office. After passing along the message, Secretary Wen returned to her own office.
Tang Yue crossed her arms and leaned against the edge of the desk, studying Bai Moqing.
After a long while, she spoke quietly. “Little Bai, you seem a little different.”
“Different how, Assistant Tang?” Bai Moqing stopped working and looked at Tang Yue.
The little orange cat had also said she was different before. The little orange cat was a demon and could tell by scent. Assistant Tang was only an ordinary person. What could she see?
Tang Yue lowered her brows and thought for a moment, then shook her head. “I cannot say.” She walked closer, bent down, and looked into Bai Moqing’s eyes. “Your eyes are gentler than before.”
Watching Assistant Tang turn and leave, Bai Moqing felt a chill on her back.
Assistant Tang was not flirting with her, was she?
Thinking of Tang Yue’s relationship with Sister An, Bai Moqing immediately rejected that messy thought. Assistant Tang might flirt with anyone, but she would never flirt with her.
The clear sky turned dark in an instant. Black clouds pressed over the city, lightning flashed, and thunder rolled.
Winter thunder was rare. The weather forecast had also said today would be clear. This was too strange.
A sharp cracking sound came from above. Bai Moqing walked to the floor-to-ceiling window and looked up. The cloud layer was so thick she could not see the sky. Black clouds rolled in, pressing lower and lower, as if some demon was about to be born.
A purple bolt of lightning split open inside the clouds, spreading outward like the branches of an upside-down giant tree. It stretched a full thousand meters.
Bai Moqing released her divine sense to examine the clouds. The God-Slaying Cauldron inside her seemed to sense something and began humming.
Could it be Yun Su?
Bai Moqing immediately went home. When the little orange cat saw her, she leaped onto Bai Moqing’s shoulder and clutched her clothes tightly. “Qingqing, Yun Su’s body is burning hot!” It had burned so badly that Feiyue had changed back into a cat.
Yun Su lay flat on the bed. Golden light and rosy clouds shimmered around her body, and scorching heat rushed toward Bai Moqing. Holding the little orange cat in her arms, Bai Moqing tested the air and tried to move closer to Yun Su.
Every inch closer made the temperature several degrees hotter. It burned until her skin hurt.
“Qingqing, I am going to melt!” Melt into liquid.
The little orange cat hung limply over Bai Moqing’s arm, soft as a furry blanket. Bai Moqing lowered her head to look at her, then immediately made a small barrier to protect her.
At last, it felt cool. The little orange cat let out a long breath.
Outside, thunder roared without stopping. The temperature of lightning could reach twenty-eight thousand degrees, and even at its lowest it was seventeen thousand. Seeing the light around Yun Su grow hotter, Bai Moqing placed the little orange cat on the floor and nudged her toward the door.
“Feiyue, wait outside.”
Before she finished speaking, a long, deep dragon cry came from every direction, as if several dragons were coiled around them.
The person and the cat both looked at the woman on the bed. Yun Su’s body suddenly vanished. The scorching heat disappeared with her.
The little orange cat froze for a moment, then quickly ran to the window and changed into human form at the same time.
Within the black clouds covering all of H City, a dragon was swimming. Each flash of lightning fell across the dragon’s body and lit up its scales.
The dark scales were black as ink. When they opened and closed, faint gold shone beneath them. Two dragon horns stood on its forehead, showing that this was a true dragon.
“Qingqing, is that Yunyun?” Feiyue’s gaze on the black dragon was almost spellbound.
“Mm. It should be.”
Bai Moqing stood just behind Feiyue on the right. The black dragon circled twice through the clouds. Its fire-red eyes suddenly looked toward the two of them.
With one dragon cry, a vast pressure surged toward them. Feiyue was so frightened she turned and threw herself toward Bai Moqing, but instead of landing in Bai Moqing’s arms, she landed on a mass of dark cloud.
The cloud was soft and warm. Feiyue touched it twice. When she opened her eyes, she saw that beneath her was not cloud at all, but dragon scales. She lifted her head, and a handsome dragon head appeared in front of her.
The dragon called her gently. “Feiyue.”
“Yunyun?”
“Mm. Hold tight.”
Feiyue did not know what Yun Su wanted to do, but she obediently did as told. She grabbed a scale with each hand. In the next instant, they shot through the clouds and mist, straight into the highest sky.
Bai Moqing was still wondering where Feiyue had gone when Xiao Xing’s voice sounded behind her.
“Yun Su has become a dragon.”
Bai Moqing turned around. Xiao Xing had already walked up to her and signaled with her eyes for Bai Moqing to look outside.
On the huge dragon body, there was a tiny white dot. Bai Moqing looked carefully for a while before seeing that it was Feiyue. Connecting this with what had just happened, she understood. Yun Su had taken Feiyue away.
“A-Xing, does Yun Su not need to face a tribulation after becoming a dragon? Where is she taking Feiyue?”
They were not eloping, were they…
Warmth came from her hand. Bai Moqing lowered her head. Xiao Xing had suddenly taken her hand.
“No need.” Looking at the dragon shadow disappearing into the clouds, Xiao Xing said, “Yun Su is taking her to absorb spiritual energy.”
Bai Moqing suddenly understood, then began worrying that someone might see the strange scene in the sky. “Yun Su appeared here openly in dragon form. Could someone film her?”
She took out her phone and checked Weibo and gossip forums. Weibo and the forums were full of celebrity entertainment news, with nothing about a dragon. The heart she had lifted finally settled.
Watching Bai Moqing’s finger slide up and down the screen, Xiao Xing smiled and explained, “To ordinary people, dragons are beings from a higher dimension. Unless a dragon wants it, no one can see it.”
The heavy rain that had been building for a long time finally fell. Xiao Xing looked toward the horizon. A dragon and a cat were above the clouds, absorbing the spiritual energy leaking from the space torn open by lightning.
Out of the corner of her eye, she glanced at the person beside her. Bai Moqing was still looking at her phone.
“Xiao Mo.” Xiao Xing called her name. As Bai Moqing lifted her head, Xiao Xing took the phone from her hand.
Bai Moqing was puzzled. “A-Xing, what are you doing?”
Her pocket grew heavier. Xiao Xing had put the phone into it.
“I will take you to find them.” She brought Bai Moqing up into the clouds.
Ever since her last failed tribulation, Bai Moqing had been unable to control clouds. Suddenly rising above them, she immediately summoned her flying sword.
Seeing this, Xiao Xing wrapped an arm around her waist and said, “I am here. Do not be afraid. Control the clouds and wind like you used to.”
Little by little, Xiao Xing loosened her hold on Bai Moqing.
“I cannot. I cannot do it.” The support under her feet lessened bit by bit as Xiao Xing let go. The moment Xiao Xing fully released her, Bai Moqing fell.
Feiyue, who had changed back into the little orange cat, saw this and quickly lifted her paws to cover her eyes. Through the gaps between her paws, she saw Bai Moqing being caught in Xiao Xing’s arms.
Xiao Xing held Bai Moqing sideways and walked toward them step by step, calmly treading on the wind.
The black dragon, now shrunk to the size of a cat, was curled into a ball. The little orange cat reached out a paw and smacked Yun Su. “Yunyun, why did you not hold me like that when you brought me here?”
Yun Su stretched out and changed into human form, sitting cross-legged. She picked up the little orange cat and asked, “Can I hold you now?”
Feiyue was speechless.
Holding her now was taking advantage!
The soft embrace carried a familiar warmth and an aura Bai Moqing would never forget in this life. She hooked her arms around Xiao Xing’s neck and looked up at her. When they first met, those handsome brows and eyes had been cold and still. Now, when Xiao Xing looked at her, they were gentle and full of feeling.
“A-Xing, do you remember the last time my tribulation failed?”
Xiao Xing paused, stopped walking, and looked down at the person in her arms with a faint smile that was not quite a smile. “So you did that on purpose.” She set Bai Moqing down.
“No.” Bai Moqing held Xiao Xing’s hand with her left hand. With her right, she controlled the flying sword and hid it back inside her body.
What she wanted to tell Xiao Xing was, “I lost most of my cultivation. I cannot control clouds directly anymore.”
“You truly did not fall on purpose?”
“I did not!”
The spiritual energy was absorbed clean. After the heavy rain, the dark clouds slowly scattered.
The little orange cat lay on the sofa with her belly bulging, purring happily in satisfaction.
Yun Su sat beside her, rubbing her belly while telling Bai Moqing and the others what had happened in the True Dragon Secret Realm.
She was just reaching a dangerous part when the little orange cat suddenly shivered. Yun Su quickly stopped and comforted her. “Do not worry. I came back safely, didn’t I?”
“No…” The little orange cat rolled onto her side and crouched. “Just now, you grabbed my nipple… my little cherry.”
Bai Moqing held it in for a few seconds, then could not help laughing. Her eyes drifted toward the little orange cat’s belly. She remembered cats had eight nipples. Cats that had never given birth did not show them clearly. The little orange cat had never experienced adult matters…
“Stop thinking about it.” Xiao Xing interrupted the unsuitable images in Bai Moqing’s mind and pulled her closer into her arms. Then she turned her cool face toward Yun Su and said, “Yun Su, continue.”
