The Demon Venerable Is Delicate and Charming (GL) Chapter 83

Chapter 83

The wolves’ eyes reflected a little moonlight in the dark and glowed green. Seven or eight wolves had long ago hidden in place. Hungry, they drooled without stopping. Their paws kept scraping the ground, and their bellies tightened, ready to hunt at any moment.
Li Lingjiang held the sword and revealed a little of the blade. Yin Wu stayed close behind her and asked quietly, “Can your wrists handle it?”
“Yes. I just cannot use strength for too long.” Her outer injuries had healed, but inner injuries were hard to adjust. Even though Yin Wu had tried several times to heal Li Lingjiang’s wrists, it was useless. Too difficult. This person had cut off her own road of retreat and still refused to give up, trying to lift a sword again. Who knew how much time she had spent to reach this point?
Li Lingjiang cleanly spun the sword into a flourish. The Immortal-Entering Sect had not prepared ordinary things. It still had some weight in the hand. She did not waste more time. With unspoken understanding, the two dealt with the wolves coming toward them.
Li Lingjiang leaned back to dodge a wolf that leaped at her. Her body suddenly turned, and the sword had already sunk three parts into the wolf’s body. Blood flowed onto the ground. She did not look at it for long. Veins rose on the back of her hand as she pinned another wolf dead. She used no technique, only the most basic fighting method. The gazes watching them were far too obvious.
The danger was solved quickly. Yin Wu wiped blood that had splashed onto her face and was slightly displeased. Seeing Li Lingjiang still clean, however, instantly made her much more comfortable. At some point, the moonlight had widened its reach.
She threw away the sword and naturally held Li Lingjiang’s wrist, kneading it in small motions.
Li Lingjiang did not refuse. She did not plan to stay long and continued deeper. What surprised her a little was Yin Wu’s quickness with the sword. Some people were born good at martial arts. Since the young immortal could control red thread, this possibility was not impossible.
They walked for a full two hours without meeting any more danger, as if the wolf pack at the beginning had been an illusion. On the way, they heard people shouting and calling for help, but they did not see a single person.
Yin Wu stopped. She held Li Lingjiang back and softened her voice. “I cannot walk anymore.”
Li Lingjiang laughed and did not refuse. She obediently followed the young immortal to find a place to sit. Yin Wu feared she would catch cold, so she took off her outer robe and draped it over Li Lingjiang, then warmed her hands and covered Li Lingjiang’s. “Are you tired?”
“I am not a porcelain doll. How could I be so easily uncomfortable?” Li Lingjiang gathered the collar and buried most of her face in it.
Suddenly, she said softly, “This place feels very familiar to me. But it also feels wrong.”
Yin Wu’s back tightened silently.
Li Lingjiang lowered her eyes and stayed quiet for a moment before continuing, her tone puzzled. “It is not the familiarity of having come here before. It is the aura.”
“There is an aura I know very well, but I cannot remember it at all.”
Hearing this, Yin Wu smiled. She squeezed Li Lingjiang’s fingers to comfort her. “Do not think too much. It will tire your mind.”
She pressed close to Li Lingjiang and lowered her voice. Her breath brushed Li Lingjiang’s ear. “My Lord, I really want to kiss you right now. What should I do?”
Li Lingjiang pushed her away and looked steadily at her. Then she frowned in warning. “No.”
Yin Wu laughed. She hugged Li Lingjiang again, fingers rubbing Li Lingjiang’s shoulder. She buried her head against the other woman’s shoulder. “I know. I know.”
It would be fine.
The two did not stay warm together for long before they sensed footsteps approaching. Li Lingjiang lightly pushed Yin Wu away, and the warmth on her body went with her. She tucked her hands away and lowered her eyes.
Three people walked over, two men and one woman. Their features seemed closer to the border regions. The men were both very tall and strong. Each dragged two wolf corpses in his hands, while the woman dragged one.
Yin Wu swept a glance over them and immediately knew those were wolves they had killed earlier. Only she would be so oddly amused as to carve a cross on a wolf’s body.
Li Lingjiang ignored them. The five people maintained a strange calm. Yin Wu, however, paid a little more attention. She wrote the word “gu” in Li Lingjiang’s palm. These three people used gu insects.
A first guess said their strength was not low.
The woman met Yin Wu’s eyes. Even though Yin Wu’s reaction was calm, the woman suddenly grew excited and spoke with her companions in her hometown language. “I need that woman. She is very suited to my gu.”
“Which one?”
“The one on the right.” The woman grew excited. “She is the person I have been looking for. Gu insects do not lie.”
One of the men said, “Then let us just steal her away.”
The woman nodded repeatedly. Fortunately, the other man still had some reason. “Do not do that. We should ask what she thinks. If she is unwilling, we can make plans then.”
The three people’s coded words were fully translated in Li Lingjiang and Yin Wu’s ears. Yin Wu’s smile vanished very quickly, and she gradually grew tense. She had a family. How could she tug and pull with someone else’s woman?
Yin Wu cleared her throat and moved closer to Li Lingjiang, glancing from the corner of her eye at Li Lingjiang’s unchanged expression.
“Hello. Can we rest here?” the woman spoke first. “My name is Ada Danni.”
Yin Wu refused at once. “No. Find another place.”
Ada Danni clearly did not want to leave and was about to fight for it again when Li Lingjiang gave a very low click of her tongue. Her fingertip slid across Yin Wu’s throat, then suddenly tightened around Yin Wu’s collar, pulling their breaths close.
They were kissing. Deeply.
Ada Danni’s face changed sharply. Gu insects would not accept a person who had a partner and a divided heart. She cursed, sat down directly in front of them, and called her companions over.
“Pardon us.” Li Lingjiang wiped the wetness from the corner of her mouth. Her expression was calm, as if nothing had happened.
Ada Danni shook her head. “May you be happy together.”
Yin Wu immediately accepted. “Thank you!”
Li Lingjiang was silent.
“We really could not find a good place to go. We will not disturb you,” Ada Danni explained. “I do not know who killed the wolves, but they left a lot of food. We can share some with you as thanks.”
Yin Wu smiled. “No need. We have food.”
Ada Danni sighed with regret. The three began handling the wolf corpses. The bloody smell spread at once. In the heavy night, the sound of knives cutting through flesh covered everything, making the scene frightening.
Li Lingjiang did not like the smell very much. Since recovering her taste, she had not eaten meat. Now, just looking made her a little nauseous. The young immortal paid close attention to her state. After asking quietly, Yin Wu said nothing more and quickly gathered firewood. She took out the distributed spark stone, soon built a fire, and silently patted Li Lingjiang’s back.
“Are you not afraid of drawing something over?”
Yin Wu answered casually, “No.”
She frowned. “Handle it faster. Light attracts less than the smell of blood. You still need meat for just these few days?”
Ada Danni smiled mysteriously. “You do not know. This kind of wolf is very rare. Even its meat is an excellent tonic. If we had not been restricted, how would we have left any for others to take?”
She sighed. “As expected of the Immortal-Entering Sect. So generous.”
Li Lingjiang looked at the fire and bent one leg. Suddenly, she asked, “Why did you come to the Immortal-Entering Sect?”
All three smiled. Ada Danni answered, “Naturally because the Immortal-Entering Sect is worth it. If we are chosen, what an honor that would be.”
A longing expression appeared on her face. “Who would not want to enter a sect? If not for this expansion, we would not even have the chance. And the elder I respect most has also begun taking disciples. If I am chosen, I can die without regret.”
Yin Wu propped her chin on her hand and threw wood into the fire, making crackling sounds. Sparks flew into the air and quickly cooled. “Is the Immortal-Entering Sect truly worth such madness from you?”
Ada Danni grew a little dizzy from Yin Wu’s words. Only after a moment did she realize the other woman might be trying to persuade them to give up. She snorted. “Of course. Are you not the same? And several elders of the Immortal-Entering Sect are almost at Spirit Transformation. If we receive guidance, perhaps the next one to ascend will be us. Besides, they do not ask about background. That is much more reliable than Heaven’s Mandate.”
Wen Si’s matter had actually become the Immortal-Entering Sect’s signboard.
Li Lingjiang lifted her eyes. Her skin was almost pale, and faint veins showed. Her face was bright and beautiful. Her recently kissed lips were red. She suddenly smiled. “Yes. We are the same.”
The Immortal-Entering Sect used only a few methods over and over, but it clearly attracted even more people. Wen Si had been an evil artifact. Then what roles did these elders play? Why recruit so many people on such a large scale? Were they going to hold another sacrificial ritual?
Li Lingjiang looked at the fire, slightly dazed. Moonlight seemed to blur her whole body. She leaned lightly against Yin Wu’s shoulder and closed her eyes. “So sleepy.”
Yin Wu held her fingers. “Sleep. I will guard you.”
Dawn came very early. The night was peaceful, and even the occasional screams became fewer.
Li Lingjiang opened her eyes, clear inside. “They left?”
Yin Wu kissed her forehead. “They left in the middle of the night. I do not know why.”
“Let us go.” Li Lingjiang rose, her voice lowering. “Settle this place quickly.”
Yin Wu patted her hand and openly clasped Li Lingjiang’s. Her eyes carried a smile as she satisfiedly pressed her face against Li Lingjiang’s.
Li Lingjiang almost indulged everything she did.
They had not walked long before they encountered many people gathered together. Among them was the familiar Ada Danni. Excited light flashed in everyone’s eyes, making the sight oddly chilling.
Li Lingjiang and Yin Wu exchanged a look and quietly stepped back two steps. It was as if they touched some boundary. The sound of wind tearing through the air swept toward them like dawn breaking. Countless arrows floated in the air, slowly turning until their sharp ends aimed at everyone. In the next instant, they dropped toward them at great speed.
For a moment, the sound of swords striking rang out one after another. Li Lingjiang flashed aside to dodge. She did not draw her sword, instead using the hilt to deal with it. She was like rain, both formless and formed, extremely nimble as she dodged those deadly weapons.
Li Lingjiang realized this was likely a concentrated test. Between breaths, she and Yin Wu saw the same answer in each other’s eyes.
That answer was soon proven. Someone appeared from nowhere and called several names. Among them were Li Lingjiang and Yin Wu.
They had been selected early.
