The Demon Venerable Is Delicate and Charming (GL) Chapter 82

Chapter 82

They left for the human world very soon. After three days of recovery, Li Lingjiang gave Feng Luan her answer. During those days, Yin Wu tried every way to feed her, but Li Lingjiang still inevitably lost a great deal of weight.
Her meridians had stabilized. Li Lingjiang could run and adjust her demonic power by herself, but because her body had suffered heavy loss, her fevers were far worse than before. Almost every day, Yin Wu would sulk for a while and hold her with red eyes.
Li Lingjiang had no choice but to kiss and coax her. These two days, her mouth had been kissed until it hurt. Every time she looked at the slight redness and swelling, she could not help sighing.
“No kissing.” Li Lingjiang pressed against Yin Wu’s lips, her expression serious. “Not for these next few days. There have been too many times.”
Her body had not fully recovered. She had a low fever all day. Yin Wu did not dare and could not bear to do anything else to Li Lingjiang, so she clung to her and demanded kisses. Sometimes Yin Wu herself lost measure.
Yin Wu’s head drooped. She rubbed against Li Lingjiang’s face and said pitifully, “All right.”
Li Lingjiang stroked her head.
The four people were already waiting outside. When Ling Xin saw Li Lingjiang come out, he rushed forward in one step, but Yin Wu was faster. Her eyes turned cold as she stared at him, making him stop in place at once. Remembering something, he lowered his head and retreated.
Li Lingjiang did not want to get involved further. She touched the black dragon’s spine and sat on it first. She looked down at everyone. Her white robe completely hid her demonic nature. Her beast ears shook, adding an untouchable quality.
She said softly, “Let us go.”
The streets of the human world were far more lively. The crowded people made it hard to move. All around were noisy voices, vendors, shops, laughter, and playing. Li Lingjiang had come to the human world many times, but this was the first time someone held her hand firmly and led her through the crowd.
Yin Wu looked around. This place no longer matched the scene in her memory at all. She was curious inside, though it did not show on her face. Her hand was hidden under her sleeve as she held Li Lingjiang’s. The feel of bandages was not especially pleasant. Yin Wu noticed some unpleasant gazes, glanced over lightly, and used her body to block Li Lingjiang.
She looked as if she had suffered a grievance but had to avoid people. After a few times, anger in her brows grew heavier. She shook Li Lingjiang’s hand. “My Lord, so many people are looking at you.”
How could Li Lingjiang not know? She answered with a smile, “Mm, I know.”
Yin Wu turned back resentfully. “You are too likable, and you are good-looking.”
Perhaps because of Yin Wu’s magic power nourishing her, Li Lingjiang’s features had grown even more open and carried sharper beauty. Yet this person’s whole air was gentle. When she looked at Yin Wu, her eyes carried a smile, easily making people lose focus.
“What can I do?” Li Lingjiang laughed. “You are also good-looking.”
Yin Wu gave a small hum and silently quickened her steps while pulling Li Lingjiang along.
The Immortal-Entering Sect was easy to find. They stood at the foot of the mountain and looked at the endless line. After exchanging a glance, they had an idea.
Yin Wu looked at the four people following behind them, acting as if she was afraid of strangers and did not dare meet people. Wuzhi even waved at her, signaling her to go. The young immortal stared resentfully at the four of them for a long time before lifting a gentle smile under Li Lingjiang’s comfort.
“Fellow Daoist, may I ask what this is for?”
The person she asked gave her a strange look. “Naturally, registration. First, they test aptitude. If you pass, you can join the selection.”
“You are not locals, are you?” That person looked at Li Lingjiang, gaze carrying a measuring intent, only to be blocked by Yin Wu, who suddenly appeared.
Yin Wu kept smiling. “Yes. We came from elsewhere.”
That person became interested and said a few more words. “Then you should hold this chance tightly. I heard that the Heaven’s Mandate spread before was actually a trap made by a traitor, and it dragged in a lot of people. The elders of the Immortal-Entering Sect were furious. Now several inner disciple positions are empty. Maybe this selection will let someone rise in one leap.”
Yin Wu listened seriously. She asked, “Then how does the selection work?”
“You do not even know that?” The person looked at her with disdain. “Once your aptitude passes, you can join. It lasts three days, and the elders choose people based on how they perform. I especially want to go under Elder Fa.”
The person’s expression filled with longing. “The Immortal-Entering Sect is expanding on a large scale this time. It is a rare chance in a thousand years. Who would not want to become a disciple? It is so impressive.”
Seeing something strange in his expression, more like obsession, Yin Wu quietly exchanged a look with Li Lingjiang and waited in silence.
The line moved quickly. Most people’s aptitude was probably poor, and one person was rejected every few seconds. Yin Wu feared Li Lingjiang would tire from standing and deliberately supported her waist. To others, they only seemed like very close friends, but to the four people behind them, it was not so pleasant to see.
Especially Ling Xin. He looked as if he could not bear to watch. Qi San kindly patted his shoulder to comfort him.
Ling Xin said, “…No need. You make me look pitiful.”
Qi San was shocked. “Are you not?”
Ling Xin said, “…You are so annoying.”
Li Lingjiang listened to the movement behind them and curved her lips slightly. She lifted her hand and looked at it, trying to run a little inner power. It was not much, almost a drop in the bucket compared with before, but it should be enough for this test.
The sect’s aptitude test was just like in storybooks. An aptitude stone was placed before them. As long as someone touched it, it would react. The strength of the light showed one’s ability.
When it was Li Lingjiang’s turn, she did not suppress her strength much. The moment her hand touched it, there was a reaction. Her brows lifted slightly, and she could not help gaining a new understanding of the Immortal-Entering Sect’s resources.
Her result was middle level. The person recording it did not show much emotion, only paused on her for a few more seconds before looking away and calling, “Next.”
When Yin Wu placed her hand on it, the light was stronger than everyone before her. She frowned at the result and lowered her inner power again. Only then did it barely settle at a suitable level.
She lowered her eyes and swept a heavy glance over the aptitude stone. She had suppressed her inner power to a level lower than Li Lingjiang’s. The thought that flashed through her mind made her brows knit tighter. She breathed out soundlessly and hid her extra emotions.
“Name.”
Yin Wu glanced at Li Lingjiang and answered, “Li Wu.”
Li Lingjiang looked over, then casually looked away. After registering, the young immortal leaned beside her. “My Lord.”
Li Lingjiang answered, “What?”
Yin Wu hid her movements and hooked Li Lingjiang’s fingers from time to time. “Do you know what I am doing?”
Li Lingjiang shook her head.
“In the human world, when a woman marries into the man’s family, she changes to the husband’s surname.” Yin Wu smiled as she looked at her. Her voice lowered, lightly brushing past Li Lingjiang’s ear. “This is called taking the husband’s surname. I have already married you, so you must treat me well.”
Li Lingjiang pretended to pull back her hand, but Yin Wu grabbed it firmly. She could do nothing with the young immortal. “What are you doing? Let go.”
Yin Wu refused. “No. Hug me.”
After saying that, she gave Li Lingjiang no time to react and wrapped an arm around her waist, resting her head against Li Lingjiang’s shoulder. But the eyes hidden from the crowd carried killing intent.
Had it finally appeared?
Yin Wu’s gaze sank toward the inside of the Immortal-Entering Sect. Only after a long time did she withdraw it.
They waited another six hours before that day’s expansion registration fully ended. Less than one percent of all applicants had been chosen. Compared with the people Wen Si brought last time, these were much better.
Along the way, someone must have been sending information to the Immortal-Entering Sect. Otherwise, Wen Si would not have kept making small moves to seize lives. Now that Heaven’s Mandate had become an illusion, there was no need for those people to pave a road with their lives.
Then what was this scene for now?
Li Lingjiang tucked her hands away. She moved her shoulders. Her shoulder blades opened and closed beneath her robe like butterfly wings.
Someone led them to change clothes. The selection would begin at night.
Li Lingjiang was actually not slow at changing. If Yin Wu had not barged into the private room halfway through, it might have taken far less time. Yin Wu held her so her body left the ground slightly. Li Lingjiang stood on tiptoe, not exactly pleased as she leaned back. She bent both arms and pressed them against Yin Wu’s chest.
“Do not… kiss me.”
Li Lingjiang looked at her with warning. Only then did Yin Wu stop, obediently let go, and even straightened Li Lingjiang’s clothes for her.
The young immortal folded her hands neatly in front of herself. “All right. My Lord, do not be angry.”
Li Lingjiang looked at her helplessly. The sect uniform was far more fitted than the clothes before. The sash was black, perfectly outlining her figure. The overall white added a great deal of cool distance. Even a light glance at Yin Wu seemed to carry a different charm.
“My Lord, do you feel uncomfortable?” Yin Wu asked without warning.
Li Lingjiang was just about to answer when she unavoidably remembered the strange actions and requests Yin Wu had made in the earlier dream. She paused for a few seconds. Nothing unusual showed. “No.”
Only then did Yin Wu nod in relief. Feeling it was not enough, she added, “If you feel uncomfortable, you must say so!”
“I know.” Li Lingjiang agreed. She looked at Yin Wu’s side profile, only hoping everything would move in the best direction. Her suspicion toward Yin Wu had no clear reason.
Please, do not lie to her.
Li Lingjiang sighed soundlessly and relaxed her shoulders, watching Yin Wu and the entering Ling Xin trade open and hidden barbs. Gentleness lingered in her eyes.
Night fell quickly. Someone gave them fasting pills and steamed buns to fill their stomachs. They formed teams themselves. The test content would be inside the testing ground. As long as they could walk out successfully, they would pass.
Before entering, each person signed a life-and-death contract. Whether they lived or died, it was voluntary. Li Lingjiang lowered her eyes. The name she signed was Li Tong.
Each testing place was different. Li Lingjiang and Yin Wu happened to be separated from the other four. They were sent into a forest. The thick leaves covered the moonlight completely. Upon entering, everyone had to put down their things. Li Lingjiang and Yin Wu only kept the fan and thread, but they could not use them casually.
On No-Return Mountain, the features of their weapons had probably been passed to the Immortal-Entering Sect. Such obvious traits could be recognized at a glance.
Li Lingjiang had just moved a step when she felt she had stepped on something. With a lift of her toe, it smoothly reached her hand. She weighed it. Without needing to see clearly, she slid a section of it out with one hand. “It is a sword.”
Yin Wu also picked one up from the ground. Before she could test its weight, green eyes lit up one after another around them, along with heavy breathing. The young immortal gave an “ah,” with no joy or anger in her voice. “Wolves.”
“So many wolves. I am scared.”
The young immortal held the corner of Li Lingjiang’s robe and took the chance to move closer.
Li Lingjiang was silent.
