The Demon Venerable Is Delicate and Charming (GL) Chapter 47

Chapter 47

Li Lingjiang regained consciousness quickly. Her hand rested unnaturally against Yin Wu’s chest. She buried her head a little into Yin Wu’s neck hollow, her voice still hoarse. “Yin Wu.”
Yin Wu stopped and looked at her, then lifted her a little higher. Her eyes were worried. “You suddenly fainted. You scared me to death.”
“Everything has been handled. We are heading back now.”
Li Lingjiang did not need to ask. Yin Wu had already given the answer. The young immortal continued, “My Lord, are you feeling better now? Hold around my neck a little.”
The sudden sharp pain from before had disappeared. Li Lingjiang thought for a moment but could not figure out why it had hurt. She moved her finger joints, but did not move otherwise. She only said, “Put me down. I am fine now.”
Yin Wu drew out an “Oh” and raised her brow. “My Lord, can you really?”
“Mm.”
Seeing this, Yin Wu said no more. She carefully put Li Lingjiang down, though her hand still hovered near Li Lingjiang’s waist and abdomen. Sure enough, just as Li Lingjiang stood steady, her legs went soft. She could not summon strength. After staggering a few steps, she landed right in Yin Wu’s arms.
Li Lingjiang felt the young immortal had laughed, but the sound was too light. Before she could catch it, it had already scattered in the air. She held Yin Wu’s hand around her waist and finally breathed out helplessly. “I overestimated myself.”
She exhaled deeply, as if forcing herself to accept the current situation. Li Lingjiang turned her body slightly. Lowering her brows and not looking at Yin Wu, she reached out and lightly wrapped her arms around the young immortal’s neck. She could not be half dragged back. Her legs were sore and powerless, unable to walk at all.
The sleeves on both sides slipped down a little, revealing clear wrists. Wrapped around Yin Wu’s neck, they stood out especially. Li Lingjiang closed her eyes and accepted her fate, lightly resting her head on Yin Wu’s shoulder. She asked softly, “Am I heavy?”
Li Lingjiang looked almost shy, or perhaps only unused to doing such a thing. Yin Wu found it amusing. She lifted her again and deliberately waited a few seconds before answering, “Not heavy. My Lord, you are too thin. You should eat more.”
“…All right.”
Li Lingjiang could not describe the feeling. This time, the sense of being lifted was clearer than before. She drew her hand inward. Yin Wu’s hair was beneath her arm. Afraid of pressing it and hurting her, Li Lingjiang carefully placed her arm lower, fitting closely against Yin Wu’s back.
“Are you hurt? Your face is covered in ash. I saw you roll several times.” Li Lingjiang had finally built herself up. She lifted her eyes and looked slightly upward at Yin Wu. From this angle, she suddenly realized the young immortal’s appearance was truly excellent. Unlike her usual harmless innocence, Yin Wu carried a chill Li Lingjiang did not know well.
Li Lingjiang remembered Yin Wu’s eyes before she lost consciousness. The possessiveness had been very strong, but it had looked like she had lost some beloved object.
Either way, it made Li Lingjiang uncomfortable.
“My Lord?”
“My Lord, what is wrong?” Yin Wu called several times with a frown, raising her voice before pulling Li Lingjiang back.
Li Lingjiang gave a soft “Ah.” She lowered her head and shook it. “I was lost in thought. Sorry. What did you say?”
Yin Wu smiled almost soundlessly. “I said I am fine. My Lord, was I especially impressive this time? It would have been better if I had been more careful, though. Then I would not have let you get hurt.”
“You were very impressive this time. Beyond my expectations.” Li Lingjiang touched the wound on her face with the side of her finger. The blood had already clotted. “This small wound is no trouble. It will heal on its own later.”
Hearing this, Yin Wu moved her gaze back. It rested on Li Lingjiang’s wound like something solid. It truly was not deep, but she was still unhappy. The young immortal’s tone did not show it. “You still need to pay attention. What if there is some hidden problem?”
Li Lingjiang gave an “Mm” and no longer struggled. Yin Wu’s embrace was warm, making her feel as if the return road was very long. Sleepiness gradually rose. Without realizing it, her hand slid down and passively rested against Yin Wu’s chest.
“My Lord, we have arrived.” Yin Wu did not carry Li Lingjiang before the others. She woke her not far away.
Still a little dazed, Li Lingjiang clutched Yin Wu’s collar. She gave a soft hum, then lifted her eyelids. After taking a long while to collect herself, she lightly patted Yin Wu’s arm. “You worked hard.”
Yin Wu smiled. Her movement was somewhat forceful as she circled Li Lingjiang. To outsiders, it looked like Li Lingjiang was injured and needed Yin Wu’s support. In truth, Li Lingjiang was much better now. It was not impossible for her to walk. But the young immortal’s movements were too natural. After a muffled sound, Li Lingjiang did not refuse.
She did not even think much of it.
Ling Xin had long been waiting anxiously. At first, he had wanted to rush out and find them immediately, but Wuzhi had leisurely stopped him and told him to calm down.
“Wait a little longer. Do you think they have no sense of measure?”
“But-” Ling Xin still wanted to say more. Then he lost his strength. He flicked his sleeve, put his hands behind his back, and silently sulked.
Feng Luan comfortingly patted his shoulder, then quickly stopped Qi San, who was about to open his mouth.
Qi San: “…”
Fortunately, they did not wait long.
Little Black discovered them first and shot over with a whoosh, anxiously circling Li Lingjiang. She reached out and signaled him to quiet down.
“My Lord, are you hurt? Is it serious?” Ling Xin walked over quickly and asked in a low voice.
Li Lingjiang did not answer at once. She left Yin Wu’s embrace and stood straight. After breathing for a long while, she said, “I am not hurt. If anything counts…”
She raised a hand and brushed the tiny wound on her face. “This should count as one.”
Ling Xin choked and forced all his words back down. His gaze stayed fixed on Li Lingjiang as he watched her pass by him.
Yin Wu examined Ling Xin from head to toe. “Why are you staring at My Lord?”
“Nothing. As for you, you even dared do something so risky. Are you not afraid something could happen?” Ling Xin swept his gaze over Yin Wu and saw no wound except some ash. He silently breathed in relief. “It is not my place to say much. It is enough that you know in your own heart.”
Yin Wu was speechless for a moment. Then she simply caught up with Li Lingjiang, tugged her robe corner, and followed behind. Even her back seemed to say, Mind your own business.
“Fellow Cultivator Li.” Wen Si had probably just been fighting. His face was flushed.
Li Lingjiang nodded slightly and looked at Wuzhi. “Were there any sudden situations? Before I left, two people had died.”
“We already learned about that.” Wuzhi paused. “But speaking of it, not long ago, these demon vines strangely withered. In only the blink of an eye, they lost their attack power. Now they have merged with the soil.”
“Did anything like that happen on your side?”
Li Lingjiang could not answer. She looked at Yin Wu. The other seemed to think for a moment, her expression growing much more solemn. “They did not suddenly fall, but I could feel their strength weaken a lot. Otherwise, with only me, I could not have killed them.”
“Something strange is happening. Everyone should be extra careful.” Feng Luan picked up the topic. He asked Wen Si, “Have they all checked their bodies? It is almost dark. We should get out as soon as possible.”
Wen Si turned and asked. Only after receiving a clear answer did he say, “We can set out. We have brought everyone many troubles along the way. Wen thanks you all here.”
Ling Xin waved a hand. “No need. Being obedient is good for both you and us.”
With the appearance of the demon vines and the continual loss of people, the crowd had quieted a great deal. Most voices were only whispers. Everyone learned to watch their surroundings and did not dare relax for even a moment.
This time, Li Lingjiang and Yin Wu were arranged at the front. Qi San and Feng Luan guarded the rear. For some reason, perhaps only an illusion, Li Lingjiang kept feeling a gaze fixed tightly on her, following her like a poisonous snake.
She half narrowed her eyes and glanced back from the corner of them. Yin Wu also noticed something strange. She hooked Li Lingjiang’s finger like a secret exchange. “My Lord, what are you looking at?”
Li Lingjiang shook her head lightly. “Nothing.”
“Oh.”
Yin Wu licked her lips. A gloom passed through her eyes. She was rather curious what exactly was causing trouble.
The farther they walked into the forest, the more dead branches there were. Gradually, even the daylight was completely blocked. Above their heads was a cramped darkness that made hearts tremble. Yin Wu found several glowing pearls and threw a few to Wen Si’s side, keeping one in her own hand. The light was not very strong, and the area it could illuminate was limited.
This slowed the whole group’s progress. A flash of red passed through Li Lingjiang’s eyes. Demonization allowed her to see the path clearly in the dark without relying on light.
“Why do I feel this stretch of road is getting softer?” Li Lingjiang slowed her steps and looked back at Yin Wu.
Yin Wu clicked her tongue in thought. This place had changed too much. It was already hard for her to find a match in her memory. Hearing this, she looked down and pressed with her toe. The ground was like fluid. It shifted slightly with her movement. If one did not pay attention, it would be impossible to notice.
“My… Li Zeng.” Yin Wu was too close to the others and changed her words at the last moment. “Careful!”
That sentence was like a spell, opening a bottomless door. The others had only just reacted when, in the next instant, they felt their bodies continuously sinking. Once they struggled, there was only the empty feeling of finding no solid ground.
“Do not move wildly. Anyone near a tree, protect yourselves at once. This is like a swamp. The more you struggle, the deeper you sink.” Ling Xin shouted. He secretly used magic to pull out his own trapped legs. Not a speck of mud stayed on them.
He lightly retreated to a tree. Just as he was about to hold the trunk, he saw Feng Luan and Qi San looking speechless. Before he could ask, he heard a crack. The tree trunk actually snapped and weakly sank into the mud.
The sinking speed was not fast. Li Lingjiang scooped up a handful of soil, and it flowed through her fingers like water. This was a very strong transformation spell.
Her eyes darkened. She exchanged a look with Yin Wu. “Yin Wu, solid ground should not be far from us. You go up first.”
The sinking position, pressing against breath, made many people groan. Yin Wu seemed to be facing off with Li Lingjiang. Suddenly, she curved her lips and threw the pearl in her hand hard toward one place. Because of this, she sank quite a bit.
Yin Wu did not panic. Almost the instant the pearl landed on the ground, she accurately looped red thread around a tree trunk. Inwardly, she cursed, thinking that one day she would slaughter this place flat.
