The Demon Venerable Is Delicate and Charming (GL) Chapter 20

Chapter 20

“Still, you cut through the mess quickly and put away your playful nature.” Feng Luan leaned beside Ling Xin, bright with energy, his teasing impossible to describe.
Ling Xin swept him an impatient glance and moved a little farther away. In a low voice, he said, “If it really did something unforgivable, the ones in trouble would be our demon clan.”
He stood apart from the crowd. “This is fine too. With strength shown, it is easier to deal with these people. After all, it is a demonic creature.”
Feng Luan laughed at something but did not answer again. He turned to talk to Wuzhi, chewing a meat strip in his hand.
The demon dragon’s whole body had rotted. When Qi San dug out its inner core, it no longer had the slightest shine. Its demonic power was already empty. He breathed out softly, closed his fingers, and the core turned to powder in an instant.
With a flick of his hand, it scattered into the air, leaving no trace to investigate.
The group packed up and set out very quickly. Wen Si had lost his temper and scolded several people with weak self-control for quite some time. Only after someone came up to advise him did he stop.
Li Lingjiang and Yin Wu still followed at the back of the crowd. The young immortal watched her nervously, one hand always hovering near her. That look of wanting to speak finally made Li Lingjiang turn her head. She blinked, rubbing two fingers together.
“Yin Wu.”
Her voice had always been very soft, different from the two breaths she had taken against Yin Wu’s shoulder just now.
Li Lingjiang’s waist was very thin. In the past, she should have had muscle there. Yin Wu had felt it when she held her. When white hair fell into Li Lingjiang’s collar, Yin Wu’s fingertips had hooked around it several times. It had felt itchy, but not strongly. What still made Yin Wu’s gaze tremble was the instant Li Lingjiang had pushed against her shoulder to stand steady. Blood had stained her fingertips, and the desireless look in her eyes had instead made fire rise in Yin Wu’s heart.
At that time, Li Lingjiang had exhaled slowly and seemed to lose strength, pausing on Yin Wu’s shoulder for several seconds. Yin Wu had asked what was wrong, and she heard a soft murmur beside her ear.
“How is your wound?”
Yin Wu raised her hands and looked at the harmless palms. She answered, “It is fine. It will heal soon. But Demon Lord, you-”
She slowly raised her hand, barely brushing a drop of blood from Li Lingjiang’s earlobe. When the two separated, she covered her lips and coughed lightly, her tongue quickly licking it away.
“Do your ears hurt?” Yin Wu stared without moving at the drooping beast ears.
Li Lingjiang placed both hands on Yin Wu’s shoulders and stood straight. The Jade-Bone Fan rested at her waist, now dull and lightless. The meridians she had repaired with difficulty seemed to show signs of breaking again. Only after slowing down did she suppress the strange feeling.
Her beast ears trembled. “It is nothing.”
But now things were different again. Li Lingjiang lowered her eyes to look at Yin Wu, her voice much clearer.
Yin Wu pressed her lips together. She lowered her head slightly and said beside Li Lingjiang’s ear, “Do your legs hurt?”
“What?” Li Lingjiang froze.
The young immortal tucked her hands into her sleeves and said in self-confusion, “I am afraid your wounds hurt.”
The two dragons perched on Yin Wu’s shoulders, their front claws holding meat strips, one bite taking half a strip. Hearing this, they also looked over together.
Four round eyes stared at Li Lingjiang, somehow funny.
Meeting three gazes, Li Lingjiang looked at herself. She had long stopped caring much about pain. She drew in a deep breath. The fog carried cold, making her cough dully several times. She rolled her sleeve around her lips to cover them.
Only after a while did she say, “It does not hurt. These past few days, I have fainted from time to time. My body is only much more tired. You do not need to worry about me. If I feel unwell, I will say so.”
Hearing this, Yin Wu pouted. She turned her head and said to the two dragons, “Demon Lord likes lying the most. When has she ever told us?”
Little White was the first to nod. It lightly swept a glance at unmoved Little Black, then flew over with a puff and pressed the black dragon’s head down with one claw before wagging its tail obediently.
Li Lingjiang: “…”
She thought about it and asked in confusion, “Do you all think I am so gravely ill that I will casually fall into an endless sleep?”
Yin Wu instinctively felt this question needed a careful answer. She coughed dryly and weighed her words. “These days, you faint from time to time. I am quite afraid. Your fever was always high and would not go down. Only after drinking medicine did it gradually improve. You are so badly injured, and your meridians have all collapsed. Also, you are the type to swallow any pain into your own stomach. I am afraid you might… anyway, there is no harm in being careful. Do not worry. I will definitely nurse your body back to health!”
Her last sentence rose in tone. Qi San happened to hear it. His face, hidden under the black robe, was faint. “Do you mean feeding Demon Lord a demon dragon core and then getting attacked?”
Yin Wu: “…”
Yin Wu hooked her lips in a businesslike smile. She moved close to Li Lingjiang and complained with grievance, “But you really are a little better now. Your fevers are not as serious. Most of them are lower fevers. It is still useful.”
The young immortal puffed up angrily and rubbed closer to Li Lingjiang’s side. Li Lingjiang did not resist. She gave Yin Wu a sincere, neither heavy nor light “Mm.”
Yin Wu’s mood immediately improved. She turned her head and gave Qi San a cold snort.
When she turned back, she secretly thought that she still had to nourish Li Lingjiang with magic. Li Lingjiang was a little too delicate.
How would Li Lingjiang know what she was thinking? She raised a hand and touched the gauze around her neck, her fingertips lightly sweeping over it.
For no reason, it felt a little tight.
The group had already entered a canyon. Along the way, they had not met any danger other than the fog blurring their vision. No-Return Mountain had few living beings, but cries often came from the air. Someone would then say, “That is a ghost cry.”
The people who had already been frightened today were also tired from walking. Now it was nearly sunset. Many people began to feel uneasy, whispering in a mess. Wen Si looked back with warning in his eyes. He tested the waters by glancing at Ling Xin and the others, then raised his voice. “Once we find a place to stop, we will rest.”
As soon as he spoke, no one objected.
Li Lingjiang also said nothing. Yin Wu, on the other hand, was happy about this decision. She clapped her hands. “Wonderful. Once we rest, I will massage your legs.”
After saying this, she added uncertainly, “But would that pull on your wounds?”
Li Lingjiang paused. “There is no need. They are much better after medicine.”
Yin Wu lifted her brows and said happily, “Then that proves this medicine has some effect!”
“I can apply medicine myself.” Li Lingjiang’s expression flattened.
Yin Wu stuck out her tongue and waved her hand, looking annoyed. “Fine, fine.”
The road through the canyon was wide, but the mountains on both sides were very high, like a huge cage covering them. It felt oppressive and heavy. With no other colors around them, fear rose in people’s hearts. The empty space ahead was like a man-eating curse. Once someone went in, they would never come out. Sound did not echo back, making it even more frightening.
Yin Wu’s interest faded. They had walked for quite some time, but the distance covered was truly not far. They had not yet reached the dangerous place.
From time to time, the sound of stones rolling down came from the canyon. But after waiting quietly for a while, no one heard them hit the ground. Someone asked a companion in fear, “Did you see anything?”
The companion tightened their grip and silently shook their head.
Fear spread. At last, one of the hidden people could not help speaking. “This is only a form of protection. They are all illusions. It is not real. Do not scare yourselves!”
Someone else asked uncertainly, “Is that so?”
Wen Si directly turned around, his face dark. “You can choose not to believe it. This is training, not a place for you to cause trouble. If you do not want to stay, you may go back.”
Hearing this, Li Lingjiang looked over. She looked toward the source of the sound and clearly saw a rolling stone fall into water, silently swallowed.
An illusion. The canyon’s position had been visually pulled closer. In truth, hidden there was dead water. Fortunately, no one dared test it. Otherwise, the mystery that devoured people without spitting out bones would not let them go.
They walked for almost another half hour. Only after leaving the canyon did many people let out breaths of relief. Ahead, visible at a glance, was a stream of flowing water. Its color was dark and sunken, as if it had stopped moving. Something like a whirlpool inside made the heart shiver.
Seeing that most people were tired, Wen Si asked Feng Luan and the other three for their opinions and decided they would rest here for now.
Yin Wu’s sharp ears caught this. She immediately raised her head, eyes bright as she looked at Li Lingjiang. “Demon Lord, I see a big rock. You can rest there!”
“I will change your medicine!”
