The Demon Venerable Is Delicate and Charming (GL) Chapter 12

Chapter 12

Li Lingjiang pressed down the thoughts in her heart. She cast a light, casual glance toward those four people and quickly withdrew it. One fire dragon had indeed frightened these people, but Wen Si had at least seen something of the world. Not half a trace of shock showed on his face. Only his gaze carried more caution.
Yin Wu met his gaze. This was rather different from how she usually was.
For some reason, Li Lingjiang found it interesting. Yin Wu had suddenly become like a mysterious box. Every day, Li Lingjiang seemed to discover one different little detail. She leaned slightly against the doorframe, pressing down the coppery sweetness in her throat. Her expression was calm, but a hint of a smile could vaguely be seen between her brows and eyes. Her looks were outstanding, and this careless manner added a few tempting traces to her sickly appearance. When she had gotten up, she had only tidied her hair a little, so the moment she moved, it fell loose in front of her.
The white gauze on her fingertips was still clean. With a flick of her finger, she tossed it back.
Li Lingjiang lifted her eyelids and looked at the sidelong glances being thrown her way from time to time.
Yin Wu did not panic at being caught. She bit her lip and smiled. Where was the arrogance she had shown when facing the others?
Only simple foolishness was left.
“Everyone, is there anything else you want to say?” When Yin Wu turned her head, her face immediately became restrained again. She actually found this quite amusing. Each of them was like a little radish sprout. The way they puffed up in anger was especially cute.
She suddenly thought, I wonder what Li Lingjiang looks like when she is furious enough for her fur to stand on end.
The defeated people looked at her in anger, helpless and unwilling. With no other option, they could only throw pleading looks toward Wen Si and call dryly, “Senior Brother.”
Wen Si had always acted one way on the surface and another behind people’s backs, though his little movements were not very obvious. These people all knew that this senior brother, who had entered the sect by his own strength, looked down on those who had been recruited later after the sect opened its doors. Some of them could not even cultivate. After enough open and hidden mockery, annoyance naturally built.
Wen Si’s gaze remained on Li Lingjiang. He controlled the measure of it, making it seem as if he had only swept over her by accident. But how could she believe that?
Li Lingjiang calmly met his eyes. Killing intent gradually filled her pupils. She straightened and spoke as if discussing the matter with him, but even more like a warning.
“How about I choose a few people? After all, my little temple is small. What does Young Master Wen think?”
Her words were not heavy, but Wen Si felt a wave of pressure. He gritted his teeth, touched the wound on his neck, and still gave way. “Of course. May I ask how this one should address you, and what sect you come from?”
Li Lingjiang answered without thinking too deeply. “Li Zeng. Wandering cultivator.”
Hearing this, Yin Wu also said, “Li Jiang. I am her-”
She suddenly stuck there, as if she had not decided how to introduce their relationship. Li Lingjiang did not pause at all and took over very naturally. “My friend.”
To her, it was only a form of address. There was no need to take it to heart.
Yin Wu, however, paid attention to her for a little longer. In the end, she hooked the corner of her lips without showing it, the meaning unclear.
Wen Si made an “Ah” whose meaning could not be read. He stepped aside so Li Lingjiang could look at the people. He flicked his hand as if to put it behind his back. His slightly hanging sleeve was about to brush Li Lingjiang as it moved. Her foot quickly paused back, and she did not care much about this small provocation.
Li Lingjiang stepped forward again without changing expression and swiftly picked out several old acquaintances.
“Them.”
Following her gaze, everyone saw that, without exception, they were all wandering cultivators who had joined halfway. Some female cultivators with no cultivation became anxious. After night fell, No-Return Mountain would be even colder. The blackness everywhere always made people’s hearts feel chilled. At this moment, their minds moved quickly, and one woman opened her mouth to say, “You picked exactly those people. Maybe you knew them from the start!”
Li Lingjiang only probed with a casual glance and knew that these people’s spiritual roots had not yet formed. There were also no calluses between their fingers from years of cultivation. They were probably young ladies from some family, or had some other identity.
She roughly narrowed the range and understood.
“Yes, we know each other.” Li Lingjiang stated it directly, without hiding anything. “So what? Is that not allowed?”
At this moment, Yin Wu immediately stood in front of Li Lingjiang, lifted her chin toward one of them, and said with a face full of dissatisfaction, “Were you not just saying bad things about us?”
She tilted her head harmlessly. “It was quiet, but I heard it.”
The person who had spoken instantly fell silent and went off to mutter with the others in resentment.
They had all seen the strength of these people. One of them alone could fight many people, and even Wen Si showed them some respect. There was even less need to mention the others. Because of this, not many people dared say anything more.
Only a few remained standing in place, sulking. Wen Si weighed things over, retreated a few steps, and thought that no matter what, he had to draw these people to his side so the plan could succeed.
The hidden few were too lazy to spend any more energy. They stopped while things were favorable and strode inside. Li Lingjiang entered the house first. Yin Wu’s status appeared low, so after welcoming everyone in, she quickly closed the door and placed a simple barrier over it.
People outside could no longer hear what happened inside.
Li Lingjiang was very familiar with these people, especially the one from the demon clan. He had once been her capable assistant, Ling Xin.
“Greetings, Demon Lord.” The four people bowed to Li Lingjiang together.
Li Lingjiang responded with a slight bow as well. Only when she rose, she covered the side of her waist and drew in a breath so faint it could barely be heard.
“Thank you all for your trouble.”
All four were respectful. They pulled out chairs and sat. Ling Xin noticed Yin Wu behind Li Lingjiang and asked doubtfully, “Demon Lord?”
Li Lingjiang understood what he meant. “Yin Wu. She is from the immortal race. I wonder if Immortal Lord Feng Luan has any impression of her?”
The mentioned Feng Luan looked carefully for a while, then still shook his head and said apologetically, “Feng Luan cannot remember.”
Li Lingjiang made no sound. She brewed a cup of tea and gently pushed it in front of Feng Luan. “You are still as easily nervous as before.”
Feng Luan’s original form was a rabbit, and his personality was naturally very shy. It had improved somewhat with age, but in front of familiar people, Feng Luan was still the same. From time to time, rabbit ears would pop out and cover his face.
“Thank you.” Feng Luan carefully picked up the teacup, holding it in both hands. His gaze still moved back and forth over Yin Wu.
Yin Wu also showed an embarrassed expression. She gave a bow and swallowed nervously. “This little immortal is Yin Wu. Greetings, honored lords.”
All four gave her face by nodding in response, then stopped paying much attention to her and began discussing proper matters. Yin Wu glanced at Li Lingjiang’s back, then placed a gaze of just the right weight on the waist Wen Si had looked at too many times. Her thin lips parted, silently shaping several words.
Then she carried the two dragons to her own bed and said nothing more.
Li Lingjiang noticed none of it.
Qi San of the Ghost Realm and Wuzhi of the Beast Realm both had some fame. Their expressions were not relaxed as they sighed.
Wuzhi drank his tea in one gulp. His original form was a butterfly, and he was very handsome and beautiful, but he happened to carry an old, heavy air. Without anger, he still had authority. “Demon Lord, have you ever gone into the depths of No-Return Mountain?”
Among those present, he and Qi San were both extremely sensitive to demonic energy. In an environment like this, they could not help feeling unwell.
Looking at them, Li Lingjiang had no way to help. In the past, she would have been able to ease it a little, but now there was nothing she could do.
She also looked helpless. “No.”
“Is there anything unusual among this group?”
Hearing this, the four looked at one another. In the end, Ling Xin spoke. “There is. You should have discovered that a portion of this group has no spiritual roots. They are not as sensitive to demonic energy, and their martial foundation is not high. They carry many magic artifacts and treasures. Their attitude is also very strange. No matter how afraid they are, they still insist on coming along. Their loyalty is so deep that even I feel ashamed in comparison.”
His last sentence was clearly mocking. “A group of useless people, and they dare trespass on my No-Return Mountain!”
