The Demon Venerable Is Delicate and Charming (GL) Chapter 13

Chapter 13

“We once asked them indirectly, but they all used the same story. They said their fate had arrived, and many people abandoned their families and children just to go cultivate.” Ling Xin sneered. Leaning against his chair, he supported his chin with his fingertips, disdain flashing through his eyes. “These sects are not afraid of dropping a stone on their own feet.”
Hearing this, Li Lingjiang also hooked her lips in a smile. “This is trouble they caused themselves. If we should intervene, then we will. If it is fate, then it will not be up to us.”
She raised her brows and blew on her tea. “The human world is an extremely important part of maintaining the balance of the Six Realms. Once they fall into disorder, no one will have an easy time. For now, we first need to find when this matter began, and how this group became certain that No-Return Mountain must have a magic artifact. Other doubts can be set aside for the moment.”
The four all silently agreed. Compared with humans, they could all be counted as divine beings. Naturally, their hearts held much more pride, and their attitude toward humans had always been cold.
Li Lingjiang looked toward Yin Wu, who was petting the dragons, and remembered something. She put down her cup. “Qi San, can you sense dead souls inside No-Return Mountain? Yin Wu said she saw some.”
Qi San wore black robes, and most of his face was covered. Only a pair of soul-stirring eyes could barely be seen. His voice was extremely drifting and faint. “I have not sensed them yet. But since she says so, I do not mind trying.”
He stretched out his hand and formed a hand seal. Beneath the illusion, another bone finger actually grew out. It was covered all over with spells. In an instant, everyone heard the ethereal sound of bells. They rang without wind, one after another, as if playing with people’s hearts. Chains gradually appeared in Qi San’s hand. Six rusted bronze bells hung from them and kept shaking. He chanted softly, “Roads of ten thousand ghosts, all heed my command!”
As those words fell, the bells shook quickly, and the rust on them rapidly peeled away. Beneath the outer layer was a fresh, dripping blood-red. Along with the ringing came countless murmuring cries, sweeping in from all directions. The windows inside the room did not move at all, yet everyone saw ghosts nearly filling the entire space.
At this sight, even Li Lingjiang could not help holding her breath for a moment. This was the Ghost Realm’s Soul Bell. Six fingers formed the summons. It absolutely could not be wrong.
Qi San immediately withdrew the spell. Everything around them instantly returned to silence. He shot to his feet and said directly, “This is impossible!”
Just now, it had not been one ghost. It had been hundreds, even thousands. As one of the officials in charge, how could he know nothing about it?
Wuzhi pulled him aside in a gloomy manner and advised, “Do not get excited. Maybe someone under you made a mistake.”
“Impossible.” Qi San’s outer robe fell into disorder. He denied it with absolute certainty. “I count them every day. How could there be an error?”
He sat in the chair, his hand clenching the armrest until it creaked. “Demon Lord.”
Li Lingjiang closed her eyes. The situation had become complicated once again. If this continued, she feared they might start arguing. Her fingertip moved, and the Jade-Bone Fan shattered the teacup before her. In an instant, it vanished without a trace. She felt her waist tighten slightly. It bound her wound with painful pressure, making her frown despite herself.
She stood and swept a cold look over them. The pressure of the past came one wave after another. “My original intention was only to confirm it. Since we already have a conclusion, I assume none of you think this trip was wasted. Qi San, I trust you. As for what the facts are, neither you nor I know. The information is more or less this much, and it is about the same as what I have learned. I am somewhat tired. The sky is late. Rest first. Unfortunately, my house is simple, so I must wrong you all.”
After Li Lingjiang finished speaking, her face grew much paler. The stabbing pain at her waist became stronger and stronger, forcing her to cover her lower abdomen and bend over in pain. Ling Xin instinctively reached out to support her, but Yin Wu, who seemed to appear from nowhere, got there first.
Ling Xin’s hand froze in midair and then dropped sheepishly. But the way he looked at Yin Wu gained a hint of scrutiny.
Yin Wu looked back without the slightest fear. Her eyes turned cold, and one could actually see a trace of warning in them. She said, “Demon Lord should rest. These past two days, her wounds have often been like this. I am taking care of her. Please be at ease.”
After saying this, she lowered her eyes to look at Li Lingjiang, whose mind had become somewhat dazed from pain. Yin Wu pulled her closer into her own arms and half-carried her back to the bed. With a sweep of her sleeve, she blocked the others’ sight and gave a low laugh. She held Li Lingjiang’s face in her hands, looking very worried about her condition, yet what she said was, “Demon Lord, you forgot to change my medicine. It hurts so much.”
Her expression narrowed slightly. She swept a glance over Li Lingjiang’s lower back, as if sighing to herself. “It seems many people like you. If not for me, how much longer would you have kept talking?”
