“Demon Lord!”
Yin Wu almost ran inside. Shuang Zixing stood silently in the courtyard for a while. Without saying anything else, he left.
She held the doorframe and stared at the person sitting before the tea table, warming tea. Li Lingjiang’s posture was straight, and her movements flowed smoothly like clouds and water. No wavering could be seen in her at all. The two dragons flew in, huffing, and landed beside her hand.
“Yin Wu, will you drink tea?”
Li Lingjiang lightly held a cup with her fingertips and pushed it toward the seat opposite her. She took a sip and swallowed. “Will you come with me?”
Yin Wu could not fail to understand what Li Lingjiang meant. Without showing anything, she studied the person before her. Li Lingjiang was clearly already gravely ill, yet she still had to take a risk. Yin Wu could not remember when Li Lingjiang had last come to No-Return Mountain, and Li Lingjiang had never explored it.
But after Yin Wu calculated it, the result was also exact.
Yin Wu sat across from Li Lingjiang, her eyes full of worry. “Demon Lord, are you really going? I am afraid your body will not hold up.”
Li Lingjiang looked indifferent. She breathed out, seeming not to care much about this matter. “If something is fated, then even if I do not go, it will still happen. No-Return Mountain has been called a dead land for many years, yet a magic artifact has suddenly appeared. And I just happen to be here. Suspicion will inevitably fall on my head. I might as well go prove it myself.”
“Then I… I want to go with Demon Lord too!” Yin Wu looked as if she were throwing caution away. She picked up the teacup and drained it in one go. The next second, she stuck out her tongue and kept huffing. “So hot…”
Li Lingjiang froze for a moment, then pressed her lips together and smiled helplessly. She took another sip. “Be careful.”
“Hehe.” Yin Wu scratched her hair in embarrassment. Then she coughed lightly, and her expression became serious. “Speaking of that, these past few days, I seem to have seen quite a few ghost shadows.”
Li Lingjiang’s fingertip pressed down harder. “Ghost shadows?”
Yin Wu nodded. “I would not mistake them. I can still tell the aura of the Ghost Realm apart. But most of them were wandering souls without awareness. They are no threat.”
Li Lingjiang gave an “Ah” in a mood no one could read. Her eyes moved, and she said nothing more.
The Underworld had never dealt much with the demon clan. At most, she occasionally exchanged a few words with the Underworld King. But because the auras of the two races clashed, the atmosphere was usually not very pleasant. It had only improved somewhat a few hundred years ago. The demonic energy on No-Return Mountain was heavy. Logically, this kind of thing should not appear here. It seemed the situation was far more serious than she had imagined.
Li Lingjiang was silent for a long time and only said, “It is fine. We will see when the time comes.”
“Mm.” Yin Wu nodded obediently and stood to leave. “Then I will go process the rest of the corpse. Demon Lord, do you want to drink some porridge tonight? These past few days, you have only drunk medicine.”
Li Lingjiang gathered her sleeves and nodded, which counted as agreement.
Hearing this, Yin Wu left happily. Only Li Lingjiang remained kneeling there in silence, and the reflection in the cup was stained with specks of loneliness.
Li Lingjiang was not very clear on when night fell over No-Return Mountain. Her mind was also unclear on when she had collapsed onto the bed and fallen asleep. When she woke, she only felt dizzy.
The candlelight in the room had already been lit. Yin Wu used magic to carefully warm a bowl of porridge and a bowl of medicine. Seeing Li Lingjiang wake, she was instantly delighted.
“Demon Lord! Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere? When I came in, you were already resting.”
“Do you want porridge?”
What Li Lingjiang agreed to almost never changed. She gave an “Mm” and sat up. “Give it to me. You worked hard. Have you eaten?”
Yin Wu nodded and carefully brought the porridge over. “I ate. Drink slowly.”
Li Lingjiang took it. Yin Wu had controlled the temperature so it was just right at the mouth. Afraid Li Lingjiang’s body could not bear it, she had added almost nothing besides a few strengthening medicines. It tasted acceptable. Li Lingjiang smiled. “It is good.”
Yin Wu immediately became happy, and words spilled out of her without stopping. “When your body is a little better, I will make it for you every day.”
Li Lingjiang said all right.
She had only eaten a few bites when both of them looked warily toward the door at the same time. Before long, someone knocked hard on it.
“Is anyone there?”
Li Lingjiang’s gaze tightened. She put down the bowl, her tone slightly low. “Yin Wu, help me hide my ears with an illusion spell.”
