The Demon Venerable Is Delicate and Charming (GL) Chapter 9

Chapter 9

What the Six Realms feared most was the breaking of balance. The diviners of every race were extremely powerful beings. They carried the future and the past. For that reason, the moment a bad sign appeared, it had to be stopped in time.
Li Lingjiang almost never doubted the omens read by the demon clan’s diviners. But at this moment, even she could not help hesitating.
Her gaze lowered and trembled. She asked, “Are all the omens the same?”
Shuang Zixing opened his mouth and admitted powerlessly, “All are the same.”
With a wave of his sleeve, he showed the omen to Li Lingjiang. “My Lord-”
When Li Lingjiang clearly saw what was reflected in the omen, her eyes trembled. The shock in them could not be hidden. How could she not understand omens? She also performed divination herself on occasion.
Her lips moved, and she said in a low voice, “It is… a life-and-death omen.”
People had life, death, and reincarnation, so naturally there was also the idea of yin and yang. Once this kind of omen appeared, it was absolutely not something that could be ignored. If it was resolved, there would be life. If it could not be resolved, there would be death.
Her fingertips moved quickly, and her brow gradually furrowed. “It is indeed No-Return Mountain.”
She breathed out and used the lounge chair to stand. Yin Wu, who had not spoken all this time, immediately supported her. Li Lingjiang refused lightly and walked alone to the bright, gorgeous flowers, lowering her head without speaking.
As Shuang Zixing had said, No-Return Mountain was not a good place to live. Resentment here was heavy. Yet demon lords through the generations had also fallen here. Most people who accidentally entered this place knew it was unusual and would not rashly go in to disturb it. Because it was filled with danger, it had stopped the curiosity of many people. But that was still different from a large number of people coming to its door.
She bent down, supported a flower bud with her fingertip, and slowly rubbed it. A flash of conflict passed through her eyes.
Shuang Zixing was still young. He had only just taken the throne, yet he had encountered something that might disgrace the dignity of the Demon Realm. It was natural for him to be anxious and afraid. But what Li Lingjiang considered more was, once she made the decision, how others would view the relationship between them, and how they would view this newly appointed king.
A life-and-death omen had to be resolved.
Li Lingjiang turned around, detached as always. “Demon Lord, what do you think?”
Shuang Zixing lifted his head and narrowed his eyes at her.
“Whom did you send?”
Rather than a question, it was more like a statement. In her heart, Li Lingjiang had already understood when Shuang Zixing explained his purpose. This king was more like a bird that wanted to return home, or a demon longing for an old object, and Li Lingjiang was his best choice. Since he had come in a rage, he must already have decided.
But Shuang Zixing was not convinced. He needed to find someone who thought the same way he did. Yet if Li Lingjiang made the decision, not only would suspicion arise, it would also cause misunderstanding. In this world, even a dying person had to be guarded against.
Shuang Zixing laughed low. His gaze fixed tightly on Li Lingjiang, full of sorrow and something like disappointment. He raised his voice and said, “My Lord is still the same as ever. To prevent unrest in the human world, every other race has sent someone to mix in among them in case anything changes.
“Naturally, the person I sent is someone I trust, my lord.”
He stood, gathered his sleeves, and stared at her. “Even we have never explored the depths of No-Return Mountain. None of us know what is inside. The laws of heaven and earth cannot be changed. If there truly is such a magic artifact, how should our demon clan handle ourselves? Even if it is destroyed, what then? Greed and hypocrisy will still return to my people little by little.”
Shuang Zixing’s eyes reddened faintly. He walked forward two steps. “The great work you built over a thousand years is about to be ruined in my hands.”
“I am truly afraid. Truly afraid.”
Li Lingjiang did not speak. There seemed to be no ripple in her eyes, yet she also bent slightly at the waist because of pain. With difficulty, she smiled and in the end only said, “My king, this cannot be avoided. Please do not live in the crook of my arm. You should stride forward.”
She no longer looked at him. She gathered her sleeves and turned, walking step by step toward the house. Her steps were heavy.
“Demon Lord.”
“I understand your meaning. No-Return Mountain is also something I should properly look at. Please return. I am a little tired.”
Her back was no longer as straight as before, but once again, she stood above all rivers and mountains.
