Running Off With The Sect Senior Sister Chapter 60

Rift

Watching Luo Tangtang’s departing figure, Yun Shayi’s face was etched with helplessness, her eyes dimming.
Luo Er was also a bit bewildered by the scene.
“Th-then I’ll be going.” Yun Shayi lowered her head. In her clan, she had always been treated like a plague, detested by everyone. Luo Tangtang was the first person to show her kindness, which made her want to find her after she got settled.
But she doesn’t seem to like me. Thinking this, Yun Shayi’s expression grew even more forlorn.
“Why don’t you come in and sit for a bit?” Luo Er asked, her face dark, almost forcing the words out.
“May I?” Yun Shayi’s eyes brightened, but when her gaze shifted to the cave, they dimmed again.
She sighed. “Never mind.”
Luo Er’s mouth twitched. She tugged Yun Shayi’s sleeve. “Enough talk. Let’s go.”
With Luo Er being unusually forceful in her enthusiasm, Yun Shayi was practically pushed inside, stumbling a little. The moment she entered, she saw Luo Tangtang meditating on the stone bed.
Since arriving here, aside from tending to the flowers and plants on Wuyang Mountain, Luo Tangtang spent her time meditating and cultivating, never once slacking. Sometimes, Luo Tangtang would think that if Eldest Senior Sister saw her like this, she would surely be very pleased.
“Sit wherever you like,” Luo Er said.
“You two live together?” Yun Shayi looked up, her eyes glinting.
Luo Er picked up an orange and paused, halfway through peeling it. “What do you mean?”
“Inner sect disciples all have their own residences. Elder Qi said so.”
Luo Er glanced around their “residence.” The orange in her hand was instantly crushed, juice splattering onto Yun Shayi’s face.
“Yun Shan didn’t tell me!”
“It’s Master,” Luo Tangtang suddenly interjected.
“Yun Shan. Master!” Luo Er ground her teeth.
Luo Tangtang’s gaze swept over Yun Shayi, her eyes devoid of emotion. Yun Shayi immediately backed away a few steps, looking quite pitiful.
“Wipe your face.”
Luo Tangtang offered a handkerchief.
“Eld… Elder Sister,” Yun Shayi stammered, looking up at Luo Tangtang, her face flushing red again.
Luo Tangtang remained expressionless, again offering the handkerchief in her hand. Only then did Yun Shayi snatch it, immediately feeling her movement had been too abrupt. Flustered, she lowered her head again, the handkerchief clutched tightly in her hand, unmoving.
“…” Luo Tangtang’s expression was a little complicated. A flicker of resignation crossed her face as she gently took the handkerchief from Yun Shayi’s hand.
Yun Shayi looked up at Luo Tangtang, bewildered.
Luo Tangtang paused for a moment, then still raised the handkerchief and carefully wiped Yun Shayi’s face.
“Luo Yi, I want one too~”
Luo Tangtang slowly lifted her eyes to the small, chubby white hand that had appeared before her. Her gaze was cold.
The chubby little hand trembled. Luo Er, looking somewhat wronged, withdrew her hand, muttering, “Playing favorites.”
Yun Shayi’s eyes grew increasingly bright, as if reflecting a galaxy of stars.
“There.”
Yun Shayi swiftly and carefully tucked the handkerchief away.
“A simple cleansing spell would have done the trick. Why be so dramatic?” Luo Er said coolly.
Yun Shayi faltered, her face turning an even deeper shade of red.
The air was silent for a moment.
“Why are you so sensitive?” Luo Tangtang gently patted Yun Shayi’s head.
“Mm,” Yun Shayi replied, her head still bowed.
“It’s already dark. I’ll walk you back,” Luo Tangtang said, taking Yun Shayi’s wrist.
Luo Er stood nearby, gazing at them with a pitiful look. “It’s too dark. I’m scared to be alone.”
“Then we’ll all go together,” Luo Tangtang said, glancing at her.
“It’s alright, I can go back on my own,” Yun Shayi said.
“Let’s go.” Luo Tangtang tugged her along and started walking.
Each of their peaks had immortal cranes for transportation, but Luo Tangtang still felt uneasy about Yun Shayi going alone.
“Can I still come and find you in the future?”
Just as Luo Tangtang was about to leave, Yun Shayi hastily grabbed her sleeve and asked.
“Yes, you can,” Luo Er interjected faintly.
“You’re welcome.”
Luo Tangtang didn’t say anything, so Luo Er added.
“Mm.” Yun Shayi nodded, her gaze still fixed intently on Luo Tangtang.
Is she trying to make a flower bloom just by staring?
Luo Er’s resentment was practically soaring to the heavens.
“Mm,” Luo Tangtang finally replied.
Yun Shayi immediately beamed. “Then I’ll come find you tomorrow after morning lessons.”
This time, Luo Tangtang remained silent. She mounted the immortal crane and departed with Luo Er.
“What on earth are you thinking?” Luo Er asked.
Luo Tangtang barely lifted her eyelids to glance at her. “Weren’t you the one who said I should get closer to the ‘World’s Core’?”
Luo Er covered her face. “I don’t think this is what ‘getting closer’ means.”
She paused for a few seconds, her tone turning a little odd. “You’re playing hard to get.”
Snap. A flower seed Luo Tangtang had been idly toying with in her hand was crushed.
Luo Er, seemingly oblivious to the danger, continued, “Tsk tsk, feeling guilty? Did I hit a nerve?”
A smug look appeared on her face. She wanted to say a few more things to provoke Luo Tangtang. But just as she opened her mouth, the crane beneath them lurched violently, and her body began to sway in mid-air.
The immortal crane suddenly sped up, seemingly out of control, tumbling over and over in the sky. Luo Er’s small hands lost their grip, and she was about to be thrown off.
At the critical moment, Luo Tangtang reacted swiftly and grabbed her hand.
“Aaaaaah!” Luo Er screamed.
Her entire body was dangling in the air. As the crane flew faster, she swung precariously, all her weight hanging from that one arm Luo Tangtang held.
“Hold on tight!”
“No, don’t hold on! Let go, let go of me!” Luo Er yelled.
If she doesn’t let go, how am I supposed to fly?!
“Hold on! Don’t let go!” Luo Tangtang desperately clung to Luo Er’s arm.
“Just let go of me!” Luo Er was exasperated.
“Aaaaaah—!” Two screams rang out simultaneously as Luo Tangtang and Luo Er fell together.
Perhaps the sensation of weightlessness was too intense and sudden; both Luo Er and Luo Tangtang were momentarily stunned, allowing themselves to plummet downwards.
“Are you two fools?” Yun Shan’s voice suddenly cut in.
Luo Tangtang and Luo Er turned their heads simultaneously to see Yun Shan beside them, falling along with them.
An invisible barrier seemed to materialize, gently catching them just before they hit the ground.
“Master!” Luo Er cried, excitedly throwing herself at Yun Shan.
“There, there, behave now.” Yun Shan pulled Luo Er aside, his gaze heavy as he looked into the distance.
Several powerful presences manifested in the surroundings. Luo Tangtang also looked towards the horizon. “Master, what happened?”
In the distance stood a tall mountain, now trembling violently. Luo Tangtang remembered that mountain was once a place of auspicious signs, but now it inexplicably felt somewhat sinister. Roars echoed from it, spreading in all directions.
“Heavenly retribution, I suppose,” Yun Shan said, his voice grave.
Luo Er also stared intently into the distance, tugging at Luo Tangtang’s sleeve. Could it be…?
Luo Tangtang shook her head. She didn’t know.
“Brother Yun.” Ye Siwen arrived.
“Shall we go take a look?” Simultaneously, several other people arrived.
Yun Shan nodded, then looked at Luo Tangtang and Luo Er. “You two head back for now. Don’t wander off.”
With that said, he waved his sleeve.
And just like that, Luo Tangtang and Luo Er found themselves back at their dwelling.
“Luo Yi!” Luo Er exclaimed urgently. “I saw it! That thing… it looked like a rift!”
