“Dig a hole?” The corner of Yun Shan’s mouth twitched.
He looked down at Luo Er, who had a pouting expression. His own expression was a little complicated.
“Good girl.” Yun Shan patted Luo Er’s head.
“Where’s the storage ring?” Yun Shan asked.
L Luo Er slapped his hand away and tossed the storage ring to him.
Yun Shan flipped his palm, and the storage ring floated into mid-air. It suddenly grew larger and shot straight towards the mountain peak. A huge boom resounded. Luo Er’s eyes slowly widened. Yun Shan glanced at her, a satisfied smile appearing on his face.
The next moment, the rock pierced by the storage ring shattered, and dust flew everywhere.
“Cough, cough.” Luo Er was completely covered in dust from head to toe. A layer of dirt made her original hair color unclear.
Luo Er’s gaze immediately swept to Yun Shan, only to find him spotless. Luo Tangtang stood beside him, equally clean. Only she herself was covered in grime.
“You—!” Luo Er pointed at them with a trembling hand.
Yun Shan acted as if he had only just noticed Luo Er. Guilt immediately welled up in his eyes. “Oh dear, I forgot about you.”
“Sorry, little disciple,” Yun Shan said guiltily.
“Look at you, you seem so clever, how could you not know to dodge!”
Luo Er’s eyes darted around. Her head turned stiffly from side to side. Dust was everywhere…
“Cough, cough, disciples, look, the cave has taken shape. Go and tidy it up. I’ll be leaving first.” Yun Shan waved his long robe, and all the dust on the mountain vanished. Only, the already sparse vegetation became even scarcer.
“What is it?” Luo Tangtang looked away, only to find Luo Er staring intently at her, her pair of dark eyes filled with a cold intent.
“Wipe your face.” Luo Tangtang remained unmoved, calmly tossing her a handkerchief. She then turned and went to tidy up the cave, ignoring Luo Er stamping her feet behind her.
Luo Tangtang walked straight into the cave, her hand caressing the cave wall. It’s quite neat, and even a bit smooth, Luo Tangtang thought, a contemplative look on her face.
“This isn’t so bad either,” Luo Er said, having also come in from outside. She had a small, scrunched-up face, clearly reluctant.
“But I won’t complain about it. After all, who knows how long we’ll have to stay here,” Luo Er then added, her tone tinged with a bit of sadness.
Luo Tangtang patted her head and said nothing.
“Stop touching me! I’m already short, and if you keep patting my head, I’ll never grow taller,” Luo Er said sullenly.
Luo Tangtang lowered her hand. She stared at Luo Er for a few seconds, then said softly, “Let’s decorate the cave. This time, we can use magic.”
Luo Er instantly looked up.
“Alright!”
They lived in the cave for a few days. Yun Shan came once, tossed them a few initiation manuals for disciples, and then ran off.
Staying there, Luo Tangtang only learned that the mountain peak they lived on was called Wuyang Mountain, and that her master was an eccentric old Daoist priest. She knew nothing else.
“Aren’t you worried at all?” Luo Er sat on a flower-vine stool in front of the cave, swinging her short little legs, her chin resting in her hand as she watched Luo Tangtang tend to some flowers and plants.
“What’s there to be anxious about?” Luo Tangtang didn’t even turn her head, focused on what she was doing with her hands.
Luo Er scoffed. “Stop bothering. Nothing can grow on this land. Haven’t you seen that all the vegetation on the mountain is about to die?”
Luo Tangtang lowered her eyes. “How will we know if we don’t try?”
“The life force of this land is draining away. I just checked the Registry of All Creation’s Vitality given by the Main God. In a while, nothing will grow here at all.”
Luo Tangtang paused for a moment, then continued to add soil to the flowers and plants.
“Why?”
“How should I know?” Luo Er rolled her eyes.
“You’re the Main God’s little darling! If even you don’t know, how would I?”
Luo Tangtang’s lips pressed into a thin line.
“Hey, what are you two talking about?” Yun Shan suddenly appeared again.
“Next time, can you not just pop out like that? It’s terrifying!” Luo Er clutched her wildly beating heart. Yun Shan had just suddenly appeared from behind her.
“Never mind that. The Recruitment Ceremony has begun. Your Sect Master brought back a good prospect this time. I’ll take you to see,” Yun Shan said.
“Just like you two, it’s a little girl.”
Luo Tangtang suddenly raised her head, put down the flower hoe in her hand, and stood up.
When they arrived at the Assembly Hall, it was already packed with people. The Supreme Immortal Sect seemed to place great importance on this recruitment ceremony. Luo Tangtang swept her gaze across and saw many familiar faces.
Zhi Yu, Zhi Wang, Zhi He, and also Ye Siwen.
But she could no longer tell if they were real or illusory, or whether these people were acquaintances from her past.
Luo Tangtang silently lowered her eyes and looked no more.
“So these are the disciples you found?” someone suddenly spoke. It was Ye Siwen.
“That’s right.” Yun Shan proudly raised his eyebrows, his pride beyond words. “Not bad, huh!”
“They are indeed quite good.” Ye Siwen’s gaze swept over Luo Tangtang and Luo Er, and he paused for a slight moment before smiling.
“Didn’t you also take in a good prospect? Why don’t I see them?” Yun Shan asked again, his tone laced with excitement.
“Two of them,” Ye Siwen corrected.
“Haha, those two?” Yun Shan pointed behind Ye Siwen. Indeed, a boy and a girl stood there, both young, around seven or eight years old.
“World’s Center,” Luo Er tugged Luo Tangtang’s sleeve and mouthed the words to her.
It was Yun Shayi!
She saw Luo Tangtang, and her eyes lit up.
Luo Tangtang finally raised her eyes, glanced over lightly, and then expressionlessly withdrew her gaze.
Jun Chuxi! Luo Tangtang’s hand suddenly clenched tightly.
The little boy standing beside Yun Shayi overlapped with the arrogant figure from her memories, making Luo Tangtang’s eyes turn cold.
Smack. Luo Er slapped the back of Luo Tangtang’s hand, holding nothing back. Her originally fair hand instantly became a little red and swollen.
“You’re not allowed to look at other girls!” Luo Er said, her small face puffed up, her tone a mix of anger and a pout.
Yun Shan’s smile faltered. “This child has quite a temper.”
Ye Siwen was also stunned for a moment. A few chuckles rippled through the hall.
Luo Er grabbed Luo Tangtang’s hand and communicated urgently, “What are you doing? Did you develop killing intent? Do you think these people can’t sense it?”
Luo Tangtang didn’t speak, gently patting Luo Er’s head. Her eyelids lifted. “If you hit me again, I’ll pull out all your hair, strand by strand.”
“Heh.” Luo Er sneered and turned her face away.
The recruitment ceremony wasn’t particularly complex. It mostly involved the elders standing beside Ye Siwen, each presenting their disciples and going through the formalities.
It took about half a day for the recruitment ceremony to finally conclude.
Luo Tangtang’s current body looked to be three or four years old, her frame appearing exceptionally frail.
Yun Shayi then came forward, fidgeting with her fingers, looking nervous. “Big sister.”
Luo Er ran in front of Luo Tangtang. She was a little shorter than Yun Shayi, so Yun Shayi’s gaze went right over her head to Luo Tangtang.
Luo Er: “…”
She grew indignant, her cheeks flushing red. She was also very dissatisfied with this body of hers; it was too small, and she was always being overlooked.
“Sister, I… I’m called Yun Shayi.” Yun Shayi’s small face was bright red, and she bit her lip, her eyes misty.
Luo Tangtang said nothing. Luo Er also stared at Yun Shayi with half-lidded, deadpan eyes. Yun Shayi’s body stiffened slightly, her gaze becoming even more pitiful.
“Mm,” Luo Tangtang nodded expressionlessly.
Yun Shayi’s eyes instantly lit up.
“Hey,” Jun Chuxi suddenly came forward and pulled Yun Shayi back.
“We should go back with Master. Where are you going?”
“Ah?” Yun Shayi looked at Luo Tangtang, opening her lips as if to speak.
“We’re on Wuyang Mountain,” Luo Er said quietly.
“Th-thank you.” Only then did Yun Shayi lower her head, blushing as she thanked Luo Er.
Luo Er’s face darkened further, her fists clenched so tightly they cracked.
Yun Shayi left with Jun Chuxi, looking back every few steps.
Luo Tangtang patted Luo Er. “Let’s go.”
Luo Er immediately turned back, fuming. “If I didn’t know she was the World’s Center, I’d have strangled her long ago!”
Luo Tangtang’s steps faltered, and her cold, gloomy gaze fell upon Luo Er.
“You—you’re just protecting her.” Luo Er fell silent, then added in a small voice, her tone and expression filled with grievance.
Luo Tangtang’s gaze lowered, a fleeting sadness on her face. She could never protect her.
“How has your cultivation been recently?” Yun Shan sat in a grand armchair, looking at them unhurriedly.
“It’s alright,” Luo Er said.
“Oh?” Yun Shan drawled, raising an eyebrow.
He took Luo Er’s hand. “Not bad, you’ve already succeeded in channeling spiritual energy. Second level of Qi Refinement.”
Yun Shan’s eyes crinkled with a smile, secretly pleased.
“Then you two cultivate diligently. Don’t disappoint your master.”
“Mm,” Luo Er lifted her chin and nodded.
“Luo Yi, don’t be so silent. It’s not like I’m teaching the Heartless Dao,” Yun Shan said, looking at Luo Tangtang with a hint of resignation.
He could sense the providence of the Great Dao in Luo Yi, but the child was too cold and didn’t like to talk.
“Okay,” Luo Tangtang said.
The corner of Yun Shan’s eye twitched. He sighed, an expression of helplessness on his face. “If you need anything, come find me at the back mountain, or find your Martial Uncle Qi Wei.”
Luo Tangtang nodded again.
Yun Shan opened his mouth, but in the end, he said nothing. His expression just grew more complicated.
He ruffled Luo Er’s head a few times and left.
“That old man, why does he love patting my head so much?” Luo Er said indignantly.
Luo Tangtang picked up the flower hoe again.
She suddenly remembered something. She recalled when she had become a white tiger, and the small pavilion that “Luo Yi”—or rather, Yun Shayi—had built on Misty Peak.
She also wanted to plant flowers all over this barren land, covering the mountains and plains.
“Tsk.” Luo Er didn’t try to dissuade her anymore, just quietly watched her work.
Luo Tangtang only stopped when the sky had completely darkened.
“Not coming out?” Luo Tangtang said. She placed the flower hoe aside, performed a dust-clearing spell, and then carefully wiped her hands with a handkerchief.
A figure slowly emerged from behind a rock.
“Why are you here?”
Yun Shayi clutched the hem of her clothes, her head lowered, saying nothing.
Luo Tangtang frowned.
Yun Shayi’s eyelashes trembled. “Big sister, I… I’m called Yun Shayi.”
She repeated herself.
“I remember,” Luo Tangtang said lightly.
“I was afraid you’d forgotten.” Yun Shayi’s eyes were like they had been washed with water—crystal clear, like pristine glass, filled with joy as she stared intently at Luo Tangtang.
“What are you doing here?” Luo Tangtang averted her gaze, not looking at her.
“Sister’s storage ring.” Yun Shayi took out a pendant from around her neck. On it was indeed the one Luo Tangtang had tossed to her.
Luo Tangtang’s expression turned colder. “It’s yours.”
After saying that, she turned and walked away.
Leaving Yun Shayi standing there, somewhat at a loss.
