“Why would this appear in this world?” Luo Er’s face turned completely serious.
The Main God created new worlds from chaos. Each world is actually a part of chaos, and they are all interconnected. This is a continuous connection the Main God also established.
So, the Main God called these connections ‘rifts’.
Once a rift fully opens, a world could be lost, vanishing entirely.
“Luo Yi, should we quickly inform the Main God and ask what to do?”
“It’s useless.” Luo Tangtang spoke, her voice nearly lifeless and hoarse. “If the Main God knew why, They wouldn’t have sent us.”
Luo Er’s eyes widened. “So we do nothing? Just watch like this?”
Luo Tangtang’s eyelashes trembled. She lowered her gaze, her eyes showing no ripple of emotion, like a pool of stagnant water. She slowly uttered a single word, “Wait.”
Hearing this, a trace of agitation appeared on Luo Er’s face. She irritably scratched her hair and paced back and forth in the cave residence.
Luo Tangtang closed her eyes again and began to cultivate.
At the faint light of dawn, Luo Tangtang slowly exhaled a breath of turbid air. She had essentially started her cultivation anew. Fortunately, she had some experience, so her progress was quick.
“Oh? Third level of Qi Refining already?” Luo Er remarked, her tone a bit dark. With a soft ‘snap,’ the spiritual energy around her also rippled slightly. Impressively, she too was at the third level of Qi Refining.
Luo Tangtang frowned deeply, her gaze fixed on Luo Er. “Cultivate on your own.”
Luo Er nonchalantly curled her lip. “What are you so worked up about? You weren’t worried about the ‘world’s core,’ you weren’t worried when the rift appeared. Why are you so anxious just because I changed my cultivation level?”
Luo Tangtang couldn’t be bothered to argue with her. She stood up coldly, went outside the cave, and started tending to her flowers.
“Aren’t you boring?” Luo Er said, her hands clasped behind her head. “Being with you, I’ll go mad sooner or later.”
“I’d better go out and see for myself,” Luo Er muttered to herself. She secretly glanced at Luo Tangtang out of the corner of her eye and found her still indifferent, completely absorbed in tending to her flowers and plants. A flash of embarrassed anger crossed Luo Er’s face.
She’s not even paying attention to me. Fine, I’m leaving then.
Luo Er snorted coldly and ran off.
Luo Tangtang’s hand paused for a moment, then she continued loosening the soil for the flowers. The life force on Wuyang Mountain was indeed draining away. Some of the vegetation planted a few days ago had mostly died, and the leaves of the remaining few had turned yellow.
Can it really, truly not be changed?
Luo Tangtang slowly lowered her eyes. Sunlight scattered on her delicate eyelashes, casting a faint shadow.
Luo Tangtang sat at a desk by the window, her gaze shifting outside. An elder had set up a formation there, blocking out all noise, solely for the daily cultivation of the inner sect disciples.
The matter of the rift seemed to be not so simple. Yun Shan, Ye Siwen, and the others had also realized its danger and had become busy, having no extra time to instruct their disciples.
So, they had to gather them, and several elders discussed taking turns, each teaching for a few days.
“Sister, look at the flower I planted.” Yun Shayi sat beside Luo Tangtang, carefully holding a small flowerpot. Inside was a tiny white flower bud.
Luo Tangtang looked at it and fell silent for a moment.
“Is it not pretty?” A hint of disappointment flickered in Yun Shayi’s eyes, and she lowered her head.
“Hahaha, don’t be ridiculous. All flowers are the same; what’s so special to see?”
Luo Er said leisurely, “Or are you saying that the flowers others bloom aren’t as captivating as your little bud?”
Yun Shayi stiffened but still said stubbornly, “I think it’s very pretty.”
“Mm, it is quite pretty,” Luo Tangtang said.
She reached out and gently touched a petal. A breeze wafted by, and the tender stem swayed, seeming to respond to Luo Tangtang’s fingertip as if it possessed a spirit of its own.
A hint of softness appeared at the corners of Luo Tangtang’s lips, which had been tightly pressed. She looked at Yun Shayi and gently patted her head. “This is good too.”
Yun Shayi’s eyes instantly lit up, her dark gaze fixed intently on Luo Tangtang.
“Hmph.” Luo Er snorted coldly, turning her face away, not wanting to watch the annoying scene.
“What’s going on? Why do I feel there’s something weird between you and the ‘world’s core’?” The mere thought of the way Yun Shayi looked at Luo Yi made Luo Er shudder. Something is definitely not right.
“Speak up!”
“What is there to say?” Luo Tangtang’s voice dropped a little. “If you have the time, why aren’t you investigating the rift?”
Luo Er sneered, “Didn’t you say we should wait?”
“We had to wait at the very beginning.” Luo Tangtang mused for a moment.
It’s been three months since the rift appeared. It’s about time.
“Let’s go check it out tonight.”
“Okay.” Luo Er’s face lit up with determination.
As night enveloped the land, two dark figures stealthily slipped out from Wuyang Peak.
“This is so exciting!” Luo Er’s eyes gleamed.
Luo Tangtang: “…”
“Let’s hurry.”
“Mhmm.” Luo Er strode forward eagerly.
Luo Tangtang’s eyes shifted. Her vital energy surged slightly, somewhat uncontrollably. She grabbed Luo Er by the collar, and with a flicker of movement, they appeared in front of the rift.
Luo Er glanced at Luo Tangtang, clearly displeased.
What do you think you’re doing? We finally had such an atmospheric opportunity, and you just brought us straight here?
Luo Tangtang rubbed her temples. I don’t have time to waste indulging your weird hobbies. Hide your presence, now.
Luo Tangtang’s gaze landed on a particular spot where an aura was hidden.
Before Luo Tangtang could act, Luo Er darted forward. Her small figure floated in mid-air. Almost instantly, a muffled groan sounded, followed by the thud of something heavy hitting the ground.
“Hehe.” Luo Er grinned, showing her white teeth. The privileges granted by the Main God were quite useful at times like these.
“Quick, come here.” Luo Er beckoned to Luo Tangtang.
They arrived before the rift. Luo Tangtang frowned instantly. Before them was an abyss, like a vast chasm. Below, a dense mist obscured the bottom, but the aura emanating from it was oppressive. Time itself seemed to be devoured here, ceasing to flow.
More disturbingly, continuous roars echoed from below, and the spiritual energy of the entire mountain was still constantly draining away.
Luo Tangtang and Luo Er exchanged a look, both seeing the gravity in the other’s eyes. They could sense that this abyss was constantly expanding. Yun Shan and his group had noticed it too and had set up a barrier here, but it was useless.
This abyss was like a colossal tidal wave about to crash. Beneath its apparent calm, turbulent and powerful currents churned. Even though it was currently contained, it was still accumulating energy, waiting for the moment to erupt.
Once it broke through the barrier, it would be incredibly difficult to contain the aftermath.
Thinking of this, Luo Tangtang placed her hand forward. The energy granted by the Main God, however little, still had some use.
“Let’s go back.” A trace of exhaustion appeared on Luo Tangtang’s face. She had too much to worry about.
Ye Siwen was powerful and shrewd. If she wanted to alter and reinforce the barrier without alerting them, it would consume a vast amount of her spiritual energy.
Seeing her like this, Luo Er, for once, didn’t argue and pulled Luo Tangtang back to their quarters.
“Cough, cough.” Luo Tangtang began to cough softly, her face suddenly turning pale.
“What’s wrong?” Luo Er had just helped Luo Tangtang onto the bed when she looked up and saw her sickly pallor. Her heart lurched, and she grew flustered.
“How did you fall ill?”
“That Main God, honestly! Why did They have to give you a human body?”
Luo Er began to grumble.
“Good thing the body I got isn’t this frail.”
Luo Tangtang’s chest heaved violently a few more times.
Recently, she had recalled many things. For instance, she was the first ‘system’ created by the Main God. The Main God had given her everything: human emotions, supreme privileges, and—a human body.
Luo Tangtang looked at her own wrist. It was slender, with pale bluish veins slightly visible beneath the skin. It looked full of life, yet so fragile.
Her life force was also draining away. It wasn’t obvious, but it was undeniably real.
With the rift issue temporarily addressed, they had sealed their special privileges again. Luo Er, in her child-like form, had fallen soundly asleep as deep night descended. Luo Tangtang, however, couldn’t sleep at all.
After much hesitation, Luo Tangtang finally got up.
Her figure melted into the darkness. Within a few breaths, she arrived at a secluded spot.
Luo Tangtang stood quietly at a doorway, her eyes dimming. Her face was cast in shadow, her expression unreadable.
I should go in. Go in and see her, just once.
Luo Tangtang thought for a moment, then silently entered.
Yun Shayi was sleeping restlessly, her small body curled up. But that was understandable; she was still just a child and hadn’t been on the path of cultivation for long.
Suddenly, Luo Tangtang’s gaze froze, fixated on something. A dark storm brewed in her eyes. It felt as if a wild beast was roaring within her, struggling to break free from its cage. Her rationality teetered on the brink, almost failing to suppress the overwhelming despair and destructive urges welling up from deep within her.
Her entire body started to tremble, her fists clenched so tightly that her knuckles cracked.
A dark bruise marred Yun Shayi’s exposed skin. Luo Tangtang reached out, and the moment her fingers brushed against it, the sleeping child flinched violently.
Luo Tangtang’s eyes darkened further. She bit her lower lip so hard that blood instantly welled up, filling her mouth with its metallic taste.
Her finger gently brushed over the injury. The bruise, which had been dark with congealed blood, vanished instantly. At the same time, Luo Tangtang’s face grew a shade paler.
A stiff, self-mocking smile touched her lips. “Just as I thought. Without my privileges, I’m nothing. Only at the third level of Qi Refining… and healing one small injury for you has left me in this state.”
She didn’t know how long she stood there watching. Finally, Luo Tangtang gently tucked Yun Shayi’s blanket in again before turning to leave.
The next day, after morning class, Yun Shayi, as usual, greeted Luo Tangtang first before turning to leave.
Luo Tangtang watched Yun Shayi’s slender figure retreat, then gently closed the book in her hand. Under Luo Er’s incredulous gaze, she followed her out.
Yun Shayi’s cultivation level wasn’t high at this point, so she still relied on an immortal crane for travel.
Luo Tangtang followed her all the way to the living quarters of the outer sect disciples.
Yun Shayi walked proficiently to a small wooden hut. She seemed to hesitate for a moment, standing at the entrance for a long while before finally stepping inside.
Luo Tangtang frowned.
“What took you so long?” The voice belonged to a boy who looked slightly older than Yun Shayi. He was dressed in ornate robes, his young face filled with arrogance.
