The wind blew against their faces, thick with the scent of winter, cold and bleak. Bai Moqing pressed down on Xiao Xing’s hand, slipped out of the warm embrace, and turned to look at her.
Xiao Xing’s eyes were bright as stars and deep as the sea. The first time Bai Moqing saw those eyes, she had fallen into their cool gaze.
Bai Moqing lowered her eyes slightly. If she had never entered Xiao Group back then, would she have stopped falling in love with Xiao Xing again?
“Xiao Mo…” That downward glance made Xiao Xing’s heart ache. This was the first time Bai Moqing had shown sorrow in front of her. Xiao Xing’s heart trembled. She held Bai Moqing’s shoulders and arms. “Did something happen?”
When Zheng Yanfei, the vice president of Yangjing Film and Television, had suddenly invited Xiao Xing to meet, Xiao Xing had felt something was wrong. The film investment side had always been handled by the film division. This was the first time someone had directly invited her, the president, to a club to discuss investment in a new movie.
Considering Yangjing Film and Television’s position in the entertainment industry, Xiao Xing could not easily refuse Vice President Zheng, so she reluctantly went.
Jinxiu Pavilion was a high-end entertainment club, golden, splendid, and luxurious. It was open only to members.
Vice President Zheng had asked Xiao Xing to meet there. The topic revolved around investment in a new movie, but Xiao Xing could tell Vice President Zheng’s purpose was not investment. It seemed she only wanted to delay Xiao Xing there.
When the topic jumped to the recently popular Best Actress Sikou Yan, Xiao Xing finally realized that Zheng Yanfei had asked her to meet because of Sikou Yan. The real target was Bai Moqing.
Looking at Bai Moqing’s abnormal expression, Sikou Yan must have come to find her again.
Bai Moqing’s mind was a mess. Sikou Yan had told her that she originally lived in the Eleventh Heaven, a supreme god realm. She had come to this low world, thin in spiritual energy and full of birth, aging, sickness, and death, all because of Xiao Xing.
In the eastern corner of the Eleventh Heaven, there was a vast, boundless lake called the Fallen God Lake. Gods did not know life or death, but after entering the Fallen God Lake, their divine souls would be washed away, and they would become mortals.
Sikou Yan said Xiao Xing had cast Bai Moqing into the Fallen God Lake, sending her from the land of fallen gods to this barren place, this world like a prison…
Bai Moqing lifted her head and studied Xiao Xing. No matter how she looked, Xiao Xing did not seem like someone who would do the things Sikou Yan had described.
“A-Xing, I met Sikou Yan. She told me that you once killed me.”
Between lying and hiding, and being honest, Bai Moqing chose honesty.
Killed Bai Moqing? Xiao Xing would absolutely not take that blame.
Xiao Xing looked openly into Bai Moqing’s eyes. “Killed you? Why would I kill you? I have never done such a thing.”
She could swear on her life. Apart from sending tribulations, which was part of her duty, she had never done anything to harm Bai Moqing.
On the contrary, when Bai Moqing had failed a thousand tribulations and was about to have her soul scattered, Xiao Xing had used half of her own life to save her. She had poured the power of nature into Bai Moqing’s body and rebuilt her Divine Terrace and divine soul.
“She said she and I once loved each other, and that you were jealous of our feelings…”
“Absurd!” Just hearing that Bai Moqing had loved someone else was already more than Xiao Xing could bear. Xiao Xing held Bai Moqing. Their bodies pressed close enough that each could clearly feel the rise and fall of the other’s heartbeat. Listening to Bai Moqing’s heartbeat, Xiao Xing turned her head and asked, “Bai Moqing, you actually believe such ridiculous words?”
Bai Moqing heard that Xiao Xing was unhappy. With very little confidence, she denied it. “I don’t believe her.”
If she did not believe it, why was she so lost? Xiao Xing tightened her hold on Bai Moqing. “Did she say anything else to you?”
“Mm.” Bai Moqing answered softly, then fell into silence. From the look of it, she did not intend to tell Xiao Xing.
Small pellets of snow suddenly fell from the sky, crackling as they hit the wooden boards. Xiao Xing raised a hand to shield Bai Moqing’s head and took her home.
Feiyue had already returned home. Back in her original little orange cat form, she sat crouched on the sofa. When she saw Bai Moqing and Xiao Xing return, she immediately stood and went to greet them.
“Qingqing, are you all right?” She did not care whether Bai Moqing was being held in Xiao Xing’s arms. The little orange cat went right up and hugged Bai Moqing’s pant leg.
Bai Moqing pushed Xiao Xing away and picked up the clingy little cat demon. “I’m fine.” She glanced at Xiao Xing, then lowered her head and said to Xiao Xing, “I’m going home tonight. I won’t sleep here.” She did not dare look into Xiao Xing’s eyes.
“Aowu!” the little orange cat cried miserably.
Xiao Xing grabbed the little orange cat by the back of the neck, pulled her out of Bai Moqing’s arms, and tossed her onto the soft plush carpet. Without any explanation, she pulled Bai Moqing into the bedroom.
The little orange cat shook out her fur, stood upright, and placed her paws on the edge of the tea table. She stared at the tightly shut bedroom door in confusion. Why was Xiao Xing angry?
Xiao Xing was indeed angry. First, Bai Moqing had ignored her warning and met Sikou Yan. Then she believed Sikou Yan’s nonsense instead of believing Xiao Xing. Now she even wanted to go home and run away. It made Xiao Xing so angry she wanted to tie Bai Moqing up and beat her.
“You don’t believe me?” After entering the bedroom, Xiao Xing released Bai Moqing. Her eyes looked hurt, as if her wife had questioned her feelings. No, not as if. Bai Moqing truly had questioned her feelings.
In front of outsiders, Xiao Xing rarely showed emotion. She was not sad, not happy, not angry, not restless. She was cold and detached, like a cultivator who only sought the Dao.
Her heart was only moved by Bai Moqing. Only in front of Bai Moqing would she express her emotions without restraint.
Bai Moqing froze slightly, then stepped forward and held Xiao Xing’s hand, explaining, “A-Xing, I believe you. I wanted to go home because I felt I had wronged you.”
After Sikou Yan left and before Xiao Xing arrived, Bai Moqing had doubted Xiao Xing’s feelings. If not for Xiao Xing, if not for the Heavenly Dao law that went against common sense, she would have already passed the immortal tribulation and gone to the immortal world, where spiritual energy was rich and the realm was vast. There, she would have cultivated step by step into a god.
Xiao Xing could not bear even a trace of wavering in Bai Moqing. She sighed, then summoned the God-Breaking Sword. The sword shone with flowing light and color, and a ring of golden talisman script floated over its blade. Xiao Xing placed the sword in Bai Moqing’s hand. “This sword can absorb souls. As long as you want it, you can take my life at any time.”
The Heavenly Dao law stood right in front of Bai Moqing. The sword that could break the Heavenly Dao law was in Bai Moqing’s hand. Bai Moqing gripped the sword tightly, her eyes turning cold in an instant. Xiao Xing’s heart chilled. Was Bai Moqing really going to kill her?
Clang. The sword struck the floor with a crisp sound. Bai Moqing threw it away and pulled Xiao Xing into her arms, burying her face in Xiao Xing’s neck as she secretly cried.
Hot tears soaked Xiao Xing’s clothes, burning Xiao Xing’s body like a branding iron. Xiao Xing gently stroked Bai Moqing’s back and whispered tenderly beside her ear, “Xiao Mo, don’t cry.”
In only half an hour, Xiao Xing’s mood had been like a roller coaster. After Bai Moqing calmed down, she pushed Xiao Xing away and went to the bathroom to wash her face. Xiao Xing followed her in. “Xiao Mo, I’ll wash it for you.”
“No need.” Her eyes were red from crying, and Bai Moqing was too embarrassed to look at Xiao Xing.
Xiao Xing walked to the bathtub and bent over to fill it. Her left hand braced against the tub while her right hand tested the water temperature. She turned to look at Bai Moqing. Bai Moqing was also looking sideways at her.
Xiao Xing smiled. “When the water is ready, let’s bathe together.”
Bai Moqing’s body heated, and warmth surged low in her belly. She turned her head away from Xiao Xing’s nakedly inviting gaze. “You go out. I’ll wash alone.”
Before the words finished, the soft rustle of clothes being removed sounded. Bai Moqing turned her head. Xiao Xing stepped into the bathtub and stood beneath the shower. With a flick of her hand, hot water poured down from above, instantly soaking her body.
The tempting scene made Bai Moqing remember how Feiyue had called Xiao Xing a little fox spirit the first time she saw her. At this moment, Xiao Xing really was a little fox spirit, beautiful, charming, and seductive.
The bathtub quickly filled. Xiao Xing turned off the overhead shower and lay down in the bath.
After brushing her teeth, Bai Moqing secretly glanced at Xiao Xing. Xiao Xing had her eyes closed, with a faint smile at the corner of her mouth. Her rounded shoulders showed above the steaming water. Her clear collarbones were half hidden under the surface, faintly visible. Her wet black hair spread over the bathtub pillow. Bai Moqing swallowed, and her legs walked over without listening to her.
Xiao Xing opened her eyes and looked at Bai Moqing. With one glance, Bai Moqing’s clothes slipped away. Xiao Xing opened her arms, and Bai Moqing fell solidly into them, stirring up a splash of water.
Her mouth was dry, and her breath was unsteady. “Xiao Mo…” Xiao Xing called. Bai Moqing thought Xiao Xing was about to do something to her and answered with anticipation, only to hear Xiao Xing say, “Ignore Sikou Yan. I will settle her.”
Outside the window, snowflakes began to drift down, falling thickly onto the ground. The first snow had actually come today.
After the bath, Xiao Xing carried Bai Moqing to the bed. Outside, everything was wrapped in silver. Xiao Xing glanced out the window, then turned off the light, leaving only a soft orange wall lamp.
She held the beauty from behind. Cool lips moved along skin. A soft hand slid across a tight, flat lower belly. Xiao Xing breathed by Bai Moqing’s ear. “Xiao Mo, don’t forget what you said. Never leave…”
Sikou Yan stood by the window and watched the heavy snow fall. Watching snow alone only made her lonelier the longer she looked. Thinking of Bai Moqing’s reaction, Sikou Yan smiled. On the fogged window, she wrote three words and watched droplets slide down the edges of the strokes.
Familiar soft cries came from the bedroom. The little orange cat glanced toward the bedroom. Bai Moqing and Xiao Xing were at it again. From the sound, Bai Moqing was still the one underneath this time.
The little orange cat jumped off the sofa and returned to the bedroom. The bedroom curtain was half drawn, and only then did the little orange cat see that it was snowing outside. She darted onto the bay window and watched the fluttering snow, waiting even more eagerly for Yun Su to return.
“Yun Yun, it’s snowing. Come back soon.”
