Bai Moqing and An Huaigu tacitly did not ask each other how their weekends had gone. Seeing An Huaigu’s tired face, Bai Moqing brewed two cups of coffee. She gave one to An Huaigu and carried the other into the president’s office.
The materials sent up by each department were organized by Secretary Wen before being delivered to President Xiao. Bai Moqing glanced at the mountain of documents waiting for approval in front of Xiao Xing, placed the coffee where Xiao Xing could reach it easily, and quietly withdrew.
Hearing the footsteps leave, Xiao Xing raised her eyes and looked at Bai Moqing. Her gaze shifted to the steaming coffee, and she smiled before lowering her head to sign documents.
At nine thirty, Jingke’s Vice President Jing Tianmu suddenly visited alone, without even an assistant by her side.
Wen Xiuming, who had been happily drinking tea and playing a game, heard that Jing Tianmu had arrived. He immediately closed the game and personally went to receive her.
“Vice President Jing, we meet again.” Wen Xiuming reached out with a refined smile on his face, elegant and gentlemanly. Jing Tianmu hesitated for a moment, shook his hand, and said, “I’m here for President Xiao. I don’t have an appointment.”
When the hotel foundation was being dug according to the architectural plans, Jing Tianmu happened to be inspecting the construction site. Comparing it with the drawings, she found there was a problem with the foundation. Without first notifying this side, she rushed over directly.
Thinking that Tang Yue was in charge of the hotel matter, Jing Tianmu said, “If President Xiao has no time, I can speak with Assistant Tang instead.”
Wen Xiuming raised his wrist and checked his watch. “At this hour, President Xiao should be busy. I’ll take you to see Assistant Tang first.”
As soon as she saw Tang Yue, Jing Tianmu explained why she had come. When Tang Yue heard it involved the construction site, she immediately called President Xiao’s office line. After getting approval, she brought Jing Tianmu into Xiao Xing’s office.
Twenty minutes later, Xiao Xing, Tang Yue, and Jing Tianmu walked out together. They stopped at the assistant office door. An Huaigu and Bai Moqing raised their heads at the same time.
Standing at the doorway, Xiao Xing said to An Huaigu, “Huaigu, I need to leave for a few days. If anything comes up at the company, handle what you can. Leave what you can’t handle until I come back.” She met Bai Moqing’s eyes for two seconds, then turned and led the others toward the elevator, taking it downstairs.
“Sister An, where are President Xiao and the others going?” To hide her secret relationship with Xiao Xing, Bai Moqing had to pretend not to know. She got up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, looking down at the parking lot below.
Xiao Xing got into Jing Tianmu’s car. Tang Yue took the driver’s seat of another car and followed behind them alone.
An Huaigu was busy and did not even turn her head as she teased Bai Moqing. “Vice President Jing has secretly loved our President Xiao for years. Where do you think they’re going? Of course she’s taking the chance to lure our President Xiao onto her territory and pursue her.”
Paired with the scene she had just seen, Bai Moqing’s heart thumped. She turned to An Huaigu and blurted out, “Sister An, wasn’t it President Jing who liked President Xiao?”
“It’s normal for siblings to have the same taste.” After clicking save, An Huaigu closed the document, turned, and began telling Bai Moqing about the Jing siblings’ secret love for President Xiao.
Jing Tianzong’s feelings for Xiao Xing were known to everyone. Xiao Group and Jingke were both partners and competitors, but the Xiao and Jing companies had never had a conflict. The reason behind that was Jing Tianzong.
No one had expected that in Jingke, aside from Young Master Jing liking Xiao Xing, Eldest Miss Jing also liked Xiao Xing.
Jing Tianmu’s feelings for Xiao Xing were a long secret love, and in terms of time, it could even compare with An Huaigu’s younger sister, An Huaijian.
They were both women, and both women who liked women. No matter how well Jing Tianmu hid the way she looked at Xiao Xing, An Huaigu still noticed it.
Their previous few contacts had all been brief, but An Huaigu had faintly seen the signs. Jing Tianmu always looked at Xiao Xing in a daze. At the last banquet, Jing Tianmu had stood in a corner and watched Xiao Xing all night. Her eyes held restrained affection. She wanted to get close but was too afraid to do so.
Everyone else’s attention had been on Jing Tianzong, but An Huaigu had watched Jing Tianmu the whole time. No matter where Xiao Xing went, Jing Tianmu would appear two or three meters away from her.
An Huaigu was speaking excitedly when she noticed Bai Moqing’s face had turned a little pale. She quickly stopped and reached out to touch Bai Moqing’s cheek. “Xiao Bai, what’s wrong? Are you not feeling well?”
Bai Moqing stepped back and avoided An Huaigu’s hand. “No. Keep going.”
“What else is there to say? I’ve said it all.” An Huaigu pressed down on Bai Moqing’s shoulder, insisting on touching her face. “Xiao Bai, let me touch you and see if you have a fever.”
Seeing the two of them in such an intimate, ambiguous pose, Secretary Wen knocked on the door. Standing at the doorway, she cleared her throat. “Assistant An, Sales and Production have a meeting. President Xiao isn’t here, so you need to attend.”
She had not expected Assistant An to be so dominant in front of Secretary Xiao Bai, and even like forcing things.
An Huaigu let go of Bai Moqing. Wen Rushui was still standing at the door. An Huaigu glanced at the black leather notebook in her hand and asked, “You’re going too?”
What kind of question was that? Wen Rushui lifted the notebook and waved it. “Why would I be holding a notebook if I weren’t going?”
The meeting was on the thirteenth floor. Once An Huaigu and Wen Rushui left, only Bai Moqing and Secretary Wang remained on this floor. It was so quiet it seemed as if no one was there.
The squeaking sound of a mop suddenly came from the hallway. Bai Moqing looked up and saw that the cleaning auntie had come to clean while President Xiao was away.
Ever since the last time the cleaning auntie had helped Bai Moqing return the trench coat to Xiao Xing, Xiao Xing had not given her a pleasant face. The cleaning auntie had even privately asked Bai Moqing if she felt President Xiao’s gaze was so cold it could freeze a person’s bones stiff.
The cleaning auntie had already feared Xiao Xing, and after that, she avoided Xiao Xing even more while cleaning. Even when mopping the hallway, she waited until Xiao Xing was not at the company. She was afraid she would run into Xiao Xing while mopping and give Xiao Xing a chance to fire her.
She was completely overthinking it.
Bai Moqing knew very well what kind of person Xiao Xing was. Xiao Xing would not make things hard for someone over a small matter.
Still, seeing the cleaning auntie mopping so cautiously made Bai Moqing feel a little sorry for her, while also finding it funny.
These days were probably the happiest days the cleaning auntie had ever had. President Xiao had been gone for more than a week and had not returned.
No one knew where she had gone. They only knew that President Xiao and Assistant Tang had gone on a business trip together, and that the Jing siblings had gone with them.
The airport hall was noisy with people coming and going. The passage was especially packed. Xiao Xing and Tang Yue’s flight was arriving at two today, and Bai Moqing and An Huaigu had come to the airport together to pick them up.
Crowds surged. Bai Moqing and An Huaigu were trapped among the people and shoved back and forth. Only after asking did they learn that Best Actress Sikou Yan was returning. The young girls holding pickup signs, flowers, and gifts were all Sikou Yan’s fans.
Seeing the excited, almost wild fans around them, An Huaigu really could not stand it. She pulled Bai Moqing and pushed through the crowd, trying to leave.
Pick them up? Forget it. They were not picking anyone up!
Before they could squeeze out, the sea of people behind them blocked them back in. An Huaigu was just about to curse when the people around them suddenly seemed to have been poked at some point and exploded with excitement. The deafening chant of Sikou Yan’s name nearly burst An Huaigu and Bai Moqing’s eardrums.
Tall bodyguards in suits formed a circle, separating Sikou Yan from the crowd. Her short-haired assistant followed behind, pushing her suitcase, ignoring the surging, shouting crowd.
Suddenly, Sikou Yan stopped. She turned to look at the fans picking her up. Her gaze crossed the crowd and landed on Bai Moqing, who stood still like quiet water.
Across the sea of people, the two looked at each other. Seeing Bai Moqing turn, Sikou Yan walked toward her.
“Sister Yan!” Her assistant spoke up to remind Sikou Yan not to go over. Sikou Yan looked back at her. When she turned back again, Bai Moqing was gone.
The fans were still shouting her name until their voices were hoarse. Sikou Yan thought for a moment, took off her mask, smiled gently at the fans, then left with her assistant and bodyguards.
The fans followed her wildly. Only after Sikou Yan got in the car and left did the airport return to normal.
Holding Bai Moqing’s shoulder, An Huaigu panted. “Young people these days. Why do they all like chasing stars?”
“Sister An, don’t you like Sikou Yan too?” Bai Moqing quietly pushed An Huaigu’s hand away and put some distance between them.
“Liking is liking, but I wouldn’t come to the airport to pick her up.” She glanced at the passage. Xiao Xing and Tang Yue still had not appeared. Then a figure who should have left suddenly appeared in front of An Huaigu.
Sikou Yan had returned.
An Huaigu stared, stunned. Meeting Sikou Yan’s gentle smile, her body felt as if electricity had passed through it, and her heart surged with excitement. She looked around. There was no assistant, no bodyguards, and no fans following her.
“Si… Sikou Yan, why didn’t you leave?”
“I came to find her.” Sikou Yan turned to look at Bai Moqing. “Long time no see, Bai Moqing.”
She slowly called out Bai Moqing’s name, word by word.
From the moment they met until now, Bai Moqing remembered every word she had said to Sikou Yan clearly. She had never told Sikou Yan her name. Yet now, Sikou Yan had not only called out her name, but also… hugged her?
Sikou Yan wrapped one arm around Bai Moqing’s waist. With her right hand, she removed her mask and tilted her head as if to kiss her. An Huaigu, standing nearby, saw Bai Moqing staring blankly at Sikou Yan without dodging or moving away. Anxious, she darted over and reached out, blocking between them.
“Xiao Bai!”
An Huaigu’s urgent shout made Bai Moqing’s heart suddenly tighten. She pushed Sikou Yan away.
Just now, Sikou Yan had appeared on her Divine Terrace and suppressed her cultivation. Her body had been trapped as if bound by an immobilizing spell, unable to move.
Seeing Sikou Yan smiling at her as if she had done nothing, Bai Moqing pressed down An Huaigu’s hand, frowned, and asked her, “Just now, what were you trying to do to me?”
Did that even need to be asked? An Huaigu rolled her eyes. Sikou Yan had clearly wanted to kiss you, Xiao Bai!
If An Huaigu had not acted, Xiao Bai would already have been kissed by Sikou Yan. Speaking of which, as a grand Best Actress, kissing a woman in full view of everyone, was she not afraid someone would take photos and let every marketing account and online media outlet write her to death?
Sikou Yan smiled and put her mask back on. “I was helping you remember some old things. Do you want to know who you are?”
It sounded like a question, but Sikou Yan did not wait for Bai Moqing’s answer before leaving. As she walked away, she grabbed An Huaigu’s wrist and smiled at her.
An Huaigu froze. Only after Sikou Yan disappeared into the crowd did An Huaigu come back to herself. She rubbed her forehead. It felt as if she had forgotten something.
Xiao Xing and the others walked out from the passage. Her ink-black long hair moved lightly, and with one glance, she saw Bai Moqing and An Huaigu waiting outside.
An Huaigu stood sideways to them, talking to Bai Moqing with great animation. She did not realize Xiao Xing and Tang Yue had arrived until they were beside her.
“Huaigu.” Xiao Xing called An Huaigu’s name, then turned to look at Bai Moqing. With one glance, she could tell something had happened to Bai Moqing.
“You’re here. I was just telling Xiao Bai that I wondered whether your flight might be delayed…” An Huaigu glanced behind Xiao Xing. “The two Jing family people didn’t come with you?”
“They went straight back.” Xiao Xing answered lightly.
The group left the airport. An Huaigu drove onto the airport expressway, then glanced at Tang Yue in the passenger seat and at the rearview mirror.
Xiao Xing leaned against the headrest with her eyes closed, resting. Bai Moqing tilted her head, staring thoughtfully outside.
Why had the temperature in the car suddenly become so frighteningly low? An Huaigu could not help shivering.
After returning to the company, Xiao Xing sent Tang Yue and An Huaigu to the Design Department, then brought Bai Moqing into her office.
They had been apart for a long time. Xiao Xing locked the door, turned, and embraced Bai Moqing.
The familiar heartbeat, the warm embrace. Bai Moqing closed her eyes and leaned against Xiao Xing’s shoulder, drawing in the warmth from her body.
“A-Xing.”
That one call of A-Xing carried endless longing and attachment.
“Xiao Mo.” Xiao Xing raised her hand and gently stroked Bai Moqing’s back in answer, then asked in a low voice, “Did something happen?”
That question reminded Bai Moqing. Bai Moqing let go of Xiao Xing and opened her mouth to speak, but her mind suddenly went blank.
Sikou Yan had entered her Divine Terrace with ease and erased An Huaigu’s memory in front of her. Yet now, when Bai Moqing wanted to tell Xiao Xing about these things, she found that she had suddenly lost the ability to speak.
“What’s wrong?” Seeing Bai Moqing wanting to speak but stopping, Xiao Xing waited patiently for her. After a long while, Bai Moqing let out a soft sigh and said to Xiao Xing, “Nothing.”
