Why Aren’t You Cultivating Immortality? (GL) Chapter 27

Chapter 27

The little orange cat was too naive. It thought that as long as it stayed in Bai Moqing’s room and Bai Moqing had nowhere to go, Bai Moqing could only obediently answer any question it asked.
It flicked its tail and spoke in the tone of a ruler looking over the world. “Bai Moqing, come here.”
Bai Moqing walked over as told. But before the little orange cat could question her, Bai Moqing reached out, grabbed the back of its neck, and said with cold eyes, “Do not get on my bed whenever you want.”
“Meow, meow…” The little orange cat cried pitifully twice. Smack. Bai Moqing threw it out of the bedroom. Right after that came the sound of the door closing. It was shut outside.
“Bai Moqing! Big villain!” The little orange cat scratched the door. The long beige wool rug spread at the doorway was clawed into wrinkled scraps by its sharp claws.
The person inside could not hear the little orange cat’s roaring. Bai Moqing stood before the bed in a daze. The faint scent on President Xiao smelled very good. It was different every time, but the feeling it gave her was always the same: alluring.
President Xiao’s eyes were deep and calm when focused, making Bai Moqing fascinated. President Xiao’s lips were cool and soft, making her unable to pull herself away.
Bai Moqing walked to the bed and lay down. Closing her eyes, she felt as if President Xiao’s weight was still on her. Xiao Xing was very light. When she pressed down, Bai Moqing did not feel unable to breathe. Instead, it felt very comfortable.
Her long hair was very smooth. When it brushed across Bai Moqing’s neck, it brought an itchy, tingling feeling.
Her phone vibrating interrupted Bai Moqing’s memories. Bai Moqing opened her eyes and sighed softly. Her dry, old wooden heart was probably about to sprout new branches and leaves.
She took her phone out of her pocket. When she saw the message, Bai Moqing sat up in shock. Xiao Xing had texted to ask: Do you like that trench coat very much?
The trench coat Xiao Xing mentioned was the caramel-colored trench coat she had taken off and put over Bai Moqing by the lake last time. It was also the one Xiao Xing had been wearing when Bai Moqing first met her in the Western restaurant.
Bai Moqing’s cheeks burned. She turned to look at the standing coat rack. The caramel-colored trench coat hung in the most obvious spot. When she lay on the bed, she could see it at a glance.
Had President Xiao seen it when she entered her room?
She definitely had.
The furnishings in the room were very simple. The bed was against the wall in the center. Beside it was a wardrobe. In the corner stood the coat rack. In the west corner was a sofa set and a desk. On the east side was a bay window, with a wall desk beside it.
Everything could be seen at a glance.
Bai Moqing did not know how to reply to Xiao Xing’s text. As for that trench coat, after Xiao Xing asked her the question, Bai Moqing put it into her storage ring.
The little orange cat scratched until it was weak and exhausted, lying tiredly at the doorway. It thought Bai Moqing would not come out tonight, but the door suddenly opened.
Seeing Bai Moqing, the little orange cat instantly recovered its energy in anger. It hooked its claws into Bai Moqing’s pants, hugged her leg, and shouted her name angrily. “Bai Moqing! Bai Moqing!”
Bai Moqing bent down and picked up the little orange cat. She smoothed its fur and gently coaxed it. “Feiyue, do not be angry.”
Huh? Why had Bai Moqing suddenly become gentle? Was she frightened by its aura?
The little orange cat lifted its head and studied Bai Moqing, trying to see what Bai Moqing was thinking from her eyes and expression.
Her eyes were rippling, and her smile carried spring. The little orange cat lifted a claw and grabbed the clothes in front of Bai Moqing’s chest. “Bai Moqing, do you like Xiao Xing?”
Bai Moqing nodded. The little orange cat turned its head and snorted. “You fickle woman. You fell for another woman so quickly.”
Fell for another woman…
Bai Moqing put away her smile. The little orange cat was talking about itself, but its words reminded Bai Moqing that many years ago, she had once liked someone.
And now, she had fallen for Xiao Xing.
It was indeed falling for someone else.
Bai Moqing rubbed the little orange cat’s head. Its soft fur felt very comfortable. Bai Moqing now knew how to answer Xiao Xing’s question.
Only Xiao Xing and the cleaning auntie could open the door to the president’s office.
The cleaning auntie had worked here for many years and understood Xiao Xing’s temperament. Early in the morning, she entered Xiao Xing’s office to clean. After tidying everything, she did not stay one extra second and immediately left.
Just as she was about to lock the door, a voice suddenly sounded behind her, nearly scaring her heart trouble out of her.
“Aunt Zheng, please do not lock the door yet.”
The cleaning auntie turned and saw Bai Moqing. She let out a long breath, patted her chest, and said, “What is it, Little Bai?” Seeing Bai Moqing holding a plain brown kraft paper bag with no pattern, she, who had worked in offices for many years, immediately guessed that it was for President Xiao.
“Aunt Zheng, could I trouble you to take this into President Xiao’s office?” Bai Moqing was humble and polite, unlike some others in the company who lifted their chins at the cleaning auntie and ordered her around whenever they needed something.
Aunt Zheng accepted the paper bag and glanced inside. So it was President Xiao’s clothes. She had thought it was a secret gift. She nodded and said, “No problem. I will take it in for you now.”
Bai Moqing stood at the doorway and watched Aunt Zheng place the paper bag on the sofa’s coffee table. Her heart felt a little sad.
This was her answer.
Hide her feelings in her heart and pretend nothing had happened.
Close to ten o’clock, President Xiao arrived late. Assistant Tang followed behind her. When the two walked past Bai Moqing’s office, they both glanced inside at the same time.
An Huaigu and Bai Moqing were both absent.
After opening the door, Xiao Xing saw the paper bag on the coffee table at once. She frowned in confusion and walked over.
“President Xiao, what is this?” Tang Yue saw President Xiao bend down and open the paper bag, then saw her expression turn ugly. Curious, Tang Yue secretly leaned over and glanced inside.
It was a piece of clothing. Judging by the color, it seemed to be President Xiao’s trench coat.
Xiao Xing turned and told Tang Yue to go out, then called Bai Moqing.
The call was answered quickly. Pressing down the anger in her heart, Xiao Xing said, “Come to my office.”
Bai Moqing’s voice came into Xiao Xing’s ear mixed with the sound of wind and engines. Bai Moqing said, “President Xiao, I am outside handling business with Sister An.”
“Come back immediately.” Xiao Xing tightened her grip on the phone. Her tone was forceful and domineering, allowing no refusal.
An Huaigu had been watching Bai Moqing the whole time. Bai Moqing moved the phone away and said, “Sister An, President Xiao wants me to go back.”
An Huaigu reached out. “Give me the phone.” Bai Moqing hesitated, then handed it over.
“President Xiao, we are at Xinling handling something. We cannot go back right away. Once it is resolved, I will bring Little Bai back.” An Huaigu raised her brows and hung up.
The only person who dared take the initiative to hang up on Xiao Xing was probably An Huaigu.
An Huaigu returned the phone to Bai Moqing, flicked her hair, lifted her chin slightly, and said proudly, “All right. Let’s go.”
In truth, the matter had been handled long ago. Once An Huaigu personally stepped in, the advertising contract with Xinling had been renewed directly, without half a word changed in any clause.
Xinling Company was in Chaochu Building downtown. There was a large shopping center nearby. After signing the renewal, An Huaigu had a sudden idea and brought Bai Moqing to stroll around the shopping center.
On the busy road, Bai Moqing followed behind An Huaigu and took the pedestrian bridge to the other side.
The autumn wind was bleak, but the sunlight was bright. Warm sunlight fell on them, pulling out two silhouettes. When An Huaigu reached the middle of the pedestrian bridge, she suddenly stopped and reached out to hold Bai Moqing’s hand.
The sudden touch felt like being burned by fire. Bai Moqing pulled back her hand. “Sister An, what is wrong?”
An Huaigu frowned unhappily and forcefully held Bai Moqing’s hand. “I wanted to hold your hand.” Seeing Bai Moqing try to pull away, An Huaigu tightened her grip. “We are both women. What is wrong with holding hands?”
As soon as she finished speaking, bang. At the nearby intersection, an ear-splitting crash suddenly sounded. Bai Moqing turned her head. A silver sports car and a brown SUV had collided.
The sports car was light. It was hit so hard that it rolled twice, then swung its rear into the roadside green belt. The rear of the silver sports car was already twisted from the impact. Its rear engine had taken a heavy blow and was smoking black. From the look of it, it seemed about to explode.
In that instant, Bai Moqing shook off An Huaigu, flipped over the railing of the pedestrian bridge in a few quick moves, and, like a wild horse breaking free from the reins, reached the silver sports car in the blink of an eye.
A woman sat in the driver’s seat. Blood ran from her forehead, but she had not lost consciousness.
Bai Moqing saw her face clearly and froze. Then, hearing the cries of shock around her, she came back to herself, quickly reached in, tore off the seat belt, and carried the woman out.
“I will take you to the hospital.” Bai Moqing carried her away, turning here and there before vanishing from the crowd’s sight.
Only after Bai Moqing disappeared did An Huaigu recover.
Just now, had Bai Moqing jumped straight down from the pedestrian bridge? An Huaigu pinched herself. She suspected she was hallucinating, but the pain in her hand, the jammed intersection ahead, and the smoking sports car all told her that everything that had just happened was real.
An Huaigu quickly called Bai Moqing. No one answered. After thinking for a moment, she called Xiao Xing. “A-Xing, there was a car accident on the road. Bai Moqing just saved someone and went to the hospital.”
Thinking that First People’s Hospital was nearby, she added, “I think they went to First People’s Hospital.”
“Mm. I will go over now.” Xiao Xing hung up.
She had seen everything that happened on the pedestrian bridge.
When she saw An Huaigu forcefully hold Bai Moqing’s hand, she was so angry her chest felt tight. But when she saw Bai Moqing jump off the pedestrian bridge without hesitation to save someone, only worry remained in her heart.
When Xiao Xing arrived at the hospital, Bai Moqing was sitting on a long bench in the corridor, lost in thought.
“Bai Moqing.” Xiao Xing walked up to her. Her voice was gentle, and she made no effort to hide the concern in her eyes. Bai Moqing lifted her head and called softly, “President Xiao.”
“I will take you back.” Xiao Xing asked nothing and brought her out of the hospital.
The car entered a neighborhood. Bai Moqing glanced around. It was not her home, and it was not the company. “President Xiao, where is this?”
“My home.”
