Why Aren’t You Cultivating Immortality? (GL) Chapter 18

Chapter 18

Only ten minutes remained before the movie started. Feiyue held the popcorn bucket with one hand and Bai Moqing’s arm with the other. Pouting, she acted spoiled. “Bai Moqing, I don’t want to watch this movie. I want to watch something else.”
Their intimate posture drew frequent glances.
Looking at their expressions and height difference, the top and bottom were very clear.
Bai Moqing swept her gaze around, then said coldly by Feiyue’s ear, “If we don’t watch this, I am taking you home.”
“Fine. Then we’ll watch this.” Feiyue compromised and followed Bai Moqing through ticket check into the screening room.
When the movie began, Feiyue saw several young couples in front of them leaning against each other. She secretly glanced at Bai Moqing, pressed her lips together, and moved a little closer to her.
From the corner of her eye, Bai Moqing saw Feiyue move. Without showing anything, she shifted slightly to the side. Hearing Feiyue sigh, Bai Moqing found it a little funny. Hidden by the darkness, she smiled faintly.
Demon Slayer really was a movie with a plot full of rises and falls. It began sweetly and ended in heartbreak.
Hearing suppressed sobs beside her, Bai Moqing turned toward Feiyue. The screening room lights came on. Feiyue buried herself in Bai Moqing’s arms, hugged her, and cried loudly. “Bai Moqing, why can’t humans and demons be together? Wuwuwu…”
Bai Moqing rubbed Feiyue’s head. “It is only a movie.” She glanced at the people beside them who wanted to leave and pulled Feiyue out.
After leaving the cinema, the two walked slowly along the roadside under dim lights.
Feiyue’s heart felt heavy and blocked. The nine-tailed fox empress’s hoarse, desperate cry from the movie still echoed by her ear. Feiyue stopped and turned to Bai Moqing.
Bai Moqing walked two more steps and realized Feiyue had not followed. She stopped too and turned back. Their eyes met. The emotion in Feiyue’s eyes was sad and low. “Bai Moqing, one day, will you kill me?”
“Why would I kill you?” Bai Moqing walked back to Feiyue. Feiyue pressed her lips together and said, “I… I am a demon.”
Bai Moqing thought for a moment and answered with certainty, “I won’t.”
After spending this time together, she knew what kind of demon Feiyue was. A simple, cute little cat demon. Her purpose in approaching Bai Moqing was only to seek shelter.
With Bai Moqing’s words, Feiyue felt at ease. She tilted her head, thought for a moment, then stepped forward and hugged her. “If one day you are about to die, I will be like the fox empress and use all my cultivation to save you. Then we will be together forever.”
Was this a confession? Bai Moqing was so frightened her face lost color. She quickly pushed Feiyue away and said earnestly, “Humans and demons who are together do not end well.”
“That isn’t what you said in the cinema.” Feiyue stretched out a little paw and hugged Bai Moqing’s arm. Grinning, she explained, “When I say we are together, I mean cultivating together. Not loving back and forth like in the movie.”
Bai Moqing let out a breath of relief. Looking at Feiyue’s serious eyes, she thought, When you meet another little cat demon someday, you won’t think like this anymore.
“Qingqing, I’ll take you somewhere.” Feiyue closed her eyes and brought Bai Moqing to a stream deep in the mountains.
The valley was quiet. Trickling water flowed from a spring, and misty spiritual energy curled and circled around it. This was the spiritual-energy-filled place Feiyue had mentioned to Bai Moqing before.
Feiyue changed back into the little orange cat and leaped into the stream. Bai Moqing wanted to call her back, then noticed that there were stones in the water, just enough for the little orange cat to stand or sit on.
“Bai Moqing, come here. You can absorb spiritual energy here.” The little orange cat turned back and called to Bai Moqing. Bai Moqing closed her eyes and used divine sense to search the area. After confirming there were no other cultivators or demons nearby, she stepped onto the stream.
Water flowed beneath her feet. Bai Moqing walked over the water as if on flat ground, step by step toward the little orange cat. The clothes on her body transformed into a moon-white brocade robe. Spiritual power flowed over it, giving off a faint white glow, setting off Bai Moqing like a fallen immortal, otherworldly and stunning.
Her long hair fell down her back. Bai Moqing produced a moon-white hair ribbon and, with one hand behind her, tied her long hair into a bundle.
The little orange cat stared. “Moqing, you look so good in those clothes. Like a high god who descended from the ninth heaven.”
“Have you seen one?”
The little orange cat shook her head. “People from the god realm and immortal realm would not come here.”
Bai Moqing smiled and raised her hand. A black iron sword appeared in her grip.
From blade to hilt, the sword was entirely black, with talisman markings carved into it. Bai Moqing flicked a sword flower and stepped the Eight Trigrams pattern across the water, dancing with the sword.
Golden light flashed. The talisman markings slowly rose from the sword. She released it, and the black sword turned into flowing light that surrounded Bai Moqing completely. Bai Moqing sat cross-legged and formed seals with both hands.
The spiritual energy in the spring was absorbed into Bai Moqing’s body in an endless stream. In less than fifteen minutes, it was completely drained.
Her spiritual platform was vast. The spiritual energy in this small spring was not enough to fill even one corner.
The little orange cat was so angry her whiskers trembled. She had brought Bai Moqing here wanting to cultivate slowly, but in fifteen minutes, Bai Moqing had sucked away all the spiritual energy.
No wonder she said she was not cultivating immortality anymore!
With this kind of appetite, the remaining spiritual energy in the world would never be enough for her to cultivate!
Bai Moqing opened her eyes and saw the little orange cat glaring at her with puffed whiskers. She looked at the spring, stood, and walked to the little orange cat. “The spiritual energy here cannot be called abundant. Next time, I will take you to the peak of the Snow Region.”
She scooped Feiyue up and held her. The black sword hid back into her body. Bai Moqing closed her eyes, used divine thought, and brought the little orange cat home.
Her clothes returned to ordinary pants and a coat. Bai Moqing set the little orange cat on the sofa. The little orange cat immediately changed into human form and asked Bai Moqing, excited and disbelieving, “You really will take me to the peak of the Snow Region?”
With her own cultivation alone, the little orange cat could not pass through the astral winds to the peak of the Snow Region.
“Mm. When I have time, I will send you there.”
The Snow Region was distant. Even with divine thought, she could not reach it instantly.
“Send me there?” Feiyue frowned. “Bai Moqing, you aren’t planning to throw me there alone to cultivate, are you?”
Bai Moqing answered mm, but before she could say the rest, her phone rang. She took it out and saw it was actually Xiao Xing calling. Glancing at Feiyue, who waited unhappily for an explanation, Bai Moqing patted her head and turned into the bedroom.
“Hello, President Xiao.” Bai Moqing answered the phone. On the other end, a cold order came. “Come to the company.”
Bai Moqing glanced outside. The sky was already dark. “President Xiao, it is after work now.”
“I know. But you are my secretary.” Xiao Xing hung up.
Looking at her phone, Bai Moqing was puzzled. What had suddenly happened to President Xiao? She sounded unhappy, almost like the little orange cat.
Xiao Xing, who had impulsively called Bai Moqing, regretted it immediately after hanging up. She rubbed her forehead and leaned against the chair back. The scene she had seen earlier appeared before her again.
Taking a deep breath, she told herself it was only a little cat demon. Nothing would happen between Bai Moqing and her. Xiao Xing lowered her hand, glanced at the documents on the desk that she no longer had any mood to read, closed them, and left the office.
Walking out of the building, she saw a blue-green figure coming toward her. Bai Moqing had obediently come.
Stopping in front of Bai Moqing, Xiao Xing deliberately lifted her wrist and looked at her watch. “You arrived ten minutes after the call. How did you get here?”
From Bai Moqing’s home to the company took at least half an hour. Bai Moqing had forgotten the time and, as usual, used one divine thought to arrive near the company, then walked over.
When Xiao Xing asked, she instantly grew frightened, as if her identity had been discovered. Pressing down the panic in her heart, she said, “I happened to be nearby.”
Afraid President Xiao would investigate further, she quickly changed the subject. “President Xiao, why did you ask me to come to the company so late? What do you need me to do?” She looked up at the office building. Every floor had lights on. There were truly many people working overtime.
“I originally wanted you to organize some documents. After thinking about it, tomorrow will be fine.”
“Then I will go back.” President Xiao’s pressure was lower than usual. Bai Moqing keenly felt it would be best to leave quickly.
Xiao Xing narrowed her eyes slightly. Thinking of the clingy little cat demon in Bai Moqing’s home, she said, “Don’t go back yet. Come eat dinner with me.”
Her attitude allowed no refusal. She turned and walked toward the parking lot.
When she reached the car and saw Bai Moqing still standing in place, she looked at her with lowered brows. Bai Moqing quickly walked over.
The car drove onto the main road and merged into crowded traffic. Bai Moqing secretly glanced at Xiao Xing from the corner of her eye. Xiao Xing’s expression was much gentler now, and the pressure was not as low as before.
Bai Moqing withdrew her gaze and looked out the window. President Xiao’s thoughts were truly hard to guess.
One phone call made her come over. After she arrived, Xiao Xing said she was not needed. In the end, she wanted Bai Moqing to accompany her to dinner.
Thinking of her improper thoughts toward President Xiao the night before, and the beauty bathing that she had spied on yesterday morning, Bai Moqing quickly pressed a hand to her chest as her heartbeat gradually sped up.
Her heartbeat was like a drum. Xiao Xing heard it, turned to look at Bai Moqing, and knowingly asked, “Does your chest hurt?”
“N-no.” After Bai Moqing answered, she heard a light laugh. She turned to look at Xiao Xing, but Xiao Xing was driving expressionlessly. Bai Moqing felt she must have heard wrong.
She must have heard wrong. How could President Xiao laugh at a time like this?
After parking, Xiao Xing brought Bai Moqing out of the car and into a Western restaurant.
Seeing the layout and decor, Bai Moqing froze. Wasn’t this where she had first eaten with Dr. Xue?
It was also here that she first saw President Xiao.
“President Xiao, this place…”
“Is something wrong with this place?” Xiao Xing brought Bai Moqing to sit in the corner seat by the window.
“No.” Bai Moqing shook her head. Judging by President Xiao’s expression, she probably did not remember meeting her here.
Bai Moqing lowered her head. It was good if Xiao Xing did not remember. Last time, Bai Moqing had stared at President Xiao. President Xiao must have thought she was a creep.
Just as Bai Moqing was secretly glad Xiao Xing did not remember her, Xiao Xing spoke in a low, drawn-out tone. “That day, why did you keep staring at me?”
