“Bai Moqing, you don’t believe me. I’m going to get angry!” Feiyue let go of Bai Moqing. Her hands hung at her sides, clenched into fists, and she glared at her angrily.
Bai Moqing froze slightly. Seeing Feiyue puff out her cheeks with a face beautiful enough to topple a country, she burst out laughing. She raised her hand and rubbed Feiyue’s head, coaxing her, “Let’s go, little orange cat.” The gentle tone and head-rubbing instantly made Feiyue’s anger disappear.
Bai Moqing took Feiyue’s wrist, closed her eyes, and shifted them with divine thought. In an instant, the two arrived at the city center square.
People brushed shoulders, and voices surged. No one noticed that two people had suddenly appeared in the crowd.
Cats did not like crowds to begin with, and this was Feiyue’s first time appearing among people in human form. She was so frightened that she threw herself straight into Bai Moqing’s arms.
Bai Moqing instinctively opened her arms and held her. “What’s wrong?” Remembering what Feiyue had said at home, she asked in disbelief, “You’re really afraid of people?”
“Mm.” Feiyue raised her head. The dim yellow streetlights laid a floating layer of light and shadow over Bai Moqing’s face. Bai Moqing’s shoulders were slim, but her embrace was warm and solid. Feiyue shyly moved her ears, hugged Bai Moqing tighter, and said from inside her arms, “Bai Moqing, you’re so good to me.”
Seeing dependence rise in Feiyue’s eyes, Bai Moqing quickly pushed her away. “Didn’t you want to walk among people? Let’s go. I’ll take you around here once.”
Autumn was growing deeper, and the night was cool as water. Feiyue was a demon and did not fear cold, but wearing only a lake-blue dress inevitably drew looks.
Bai Moqing had only taken Feiyue a short distance before all kinds of comments sounded around them.
“Look at that girl. Is something wrong with her head? It’s so cold, and she’s still wearing a dress.”
“Probably. Looking all around like that, she’s either silly or slow.”
Bai Moqing frowned and looked toward the place where the voices came from. Feiyue was only curious about the human world. How was she silly?
Looking at the little orange cat whose eyes were full of curiosity as she looked everywhere, Bai Moqing hesitated, took off her coat, walked to Feiyue’s side, and wrapped it around her.
The sudden warmth made Feiyue stare blankly. She raised her head, and Bai Moqing’s gentle voice came. “Wrap yourself in it. It’s cold.”
“Bai Moqing, I’m not cold.” Feiyue held the lapels with both hands and grinned.
Bai Moqing rubbed her head, lowered her head, and whispered by her ear, “You are a girl right now. If you wear only one dress, you will be cold.” She straightened, stepped two steps to the side, and put distance between herself and Feiyue.
After taking off the navy coat, Bai Moqing wore only a black knit top. When the wind blew, her slim, tall body looked even thinner.
Feiyue pressed her lips together, put on Bai Moqing’s coat, and moved closer to her. “Bai Moqing, you are so good to me.” She took Bai Moqing’s hand, leaned her head against Bai Moqing’s shoulder, and smiled. “This way, neither of us is cold.”
The two long-haired women leaned together intimately like lovers. The aunties who had been gossiping stopped talking, but the lesbians also strolling through the square became excited.
To see Bai Moqing and Feiyue’s faces, they quickly walked ahead of them and then pretended to turn around by accident.
Once they saw their looks clearly, their girlish hearts exploded. One had clean, pretty features and a cold expression. The other was devastatingly beautiful and alluring, yet innocent. They were simply a couple pairing that had stepped out of a comic.
Feiyue noticed the strange behavior and expressions of the women ahead. She stood on tiptoe and leaned to Bai Moqing’s ear. “Bai Moqing, why are those people looking at us with such excited eyes? It’s like we’re some kind of heavenly treasure.”
“Look, look! Is that woman kissing the other one…”
“Hey, hey, the taller one is looking at us. Stop looking, stop looking.”
Bai Moqing raised her eyes and glanced at them but ignored them. She turned to Feiyue. “There is a lake nearby. I’ll take you for a walk by the lake.”
She checked the time. “If we go now, we can still see the musical fountain.”
“Okay. As long as Moqing takes me there, I’ll go anywhere.” Her form of address changed from Bai Moqing to Moqing, enough to show the change in Feiyue’s feelings.
By the lake, there were people singing, people performing opera, people walking, and all kinds of visitors coming and going.
Bai Moqing quietly withdrew her hand and walked side by side with Feiyue.
At the center of the lake, an exquisite dragon-prowed painted pleasure boat slowly moved along. On the lantern-hung deck, several people leaned against the railings and enjoyed the endless night view.
Near the shore, several black-awning boats were moored, swaying with the rippling water.
Farther along was the musical fountain.
Soft, soothing music drifted beautifully. Bai Moqing and Feiyue stood under a distant tree and watched the fountain, whose movements were as graceful as a stunning courtesan’s dance.
Suddenly, a figure appeared in Bai Moqing’s view.
Caramel-colored trench coat. Black hair. Both hands in her pockets. Back straight, tall and graceful. Just looking at her back made Bai Moqing’s heartbeat speed up uncontrollably.
Why was President Xiao here?
The music slowly ended, and the fountain gradually calmed. Feiyue withdrew her gaze and turned to Bai Moqing. “Moqing, the music is gone.” Seeing Bai Moqing staring blankly toward the front-left, she followed her gaze and saw a person.
She instantly grew a little unhappy.
“Bai Moqing, who are you looking at?” Instead of looking at a peerless beauty like her, Bai Moqing was looking at another woman! Too much!
Bai Moqing shook her head. “No one.”
“I’m going to see what little vixen it is!” Feiyue started walking over. Bai Moqing remembered the dark jade-red bead on Xiao Xing’s wrist and grabbed Feiyue’s arm. With a flash of divine thought, she brought Feiyue home.
As soon as they disappeared, Xiao Xing turned her head. Her gaze landed exactly where Bai Moqing had been standing.
Thinking back on everything that had happened, she frowned.
After she saved Bai Moqing, she had sent her to the hospital and asked Xue Shichu to say she had found Bai Moqing by the roadside. Unexpectedly, Xue Shichu had actually fallen for Bai Moqing.
She did not know what charm Bai Moqing had. In just a few days, she had made so many people like her.
Even that little cat demon seemed to have fallen for Bai Moqing.
At the hospital, Xue Shichu stared at her phone in a daze. Xiao Xing, that proud, cold woman with no feelings, did not date herself, yet she actually forbade others from dating!
She was not allowed to like Bai Moqing? Xiao Xing gave no reason at all and simply forbade her from liking Bai Moqing. Could Xiao Xing like her?
Xue Shichu leaned her head back against the chair and closed her eyes toward the ceiling. Xiao Xing could never like Bai Moqing. She was a woman without feelings. She would not be moved by anyone.
Bai Moqing brought Feiyue home. Feiyue angrily questioned her. “Bai Moqing, that little vixen…” Before Feiyue could finish, Bai Moqing left home again.
Xiao Xing had not gone. She stood alone by the lake, looking at the scenery. Her back looked so lonely that it made the heart ache.
Bai Moqing stood behind her and watched for a while. After thinking it over, she slowly walked toward her, pretending they had met by chance. She greeted Xiao Xing. “President Xiao, what a coincidence. Why are you here?”
Xiao Xing turned back. Her face was always calm and unreadable. She answered Bai Moqing indifferently. “My home is near here. I came out for a walk.”
She walked up to Bai Moqing. “What about you? Why are you here?” She glanced around Bai Moqing. “Are you alone?”
“Mm… yes… yes.” Bai Moqing was a little nervous. Under Xiao Xing’s cool, indifferent gaze, everything about her seemed to be seen through. “I came here to see the musical fountain. I was just about to go back.”
“Mm.” Xiao Xing nodded. “Be careful on the way. I am going home too.” She turned and left.
She just left like that? Bai Moqing froze in place and watched Xiao Xing’s back. Until Xiao Xing disappeared from sight, she did not look back at Bai Moqing once.
What a cold person.
Bai Moqing was about to go home, but unexpectedly, Xiao Xing returned. Her gaze landed on Bai Moqing, and she walked toward her step by step.
For a moment, Bai Moqing felt as if Xiao Xing had walked to her from a thousand years ago. Everything around them lost color and became silent black and white. Only Xiao Xing remained, tall and slender, with a cold face and deep eyes as bright as the stars in the sky, reflecting Bai Moqing’s figure.
Xiao Xing asked, “Do you want to come to my home and drink something?”
Looking at Xiao Xing’s expression, Bai Moqing could not see much hospitality. She shook her head and refused. “No need. I am going back now.”
As soon as she finished speaking, the caramel-colored trench coat landed on her body.
“I remember your home is not close to here. Next time you come out, remember to wear more.” Her voice was cool as lake water, seeping into the heart.
The calm lake surface rippled in circles, just like Bai Moqing’s heart at this moment, stirred by Xiao Xing.
Xiao Xing’s body warmth remained on the trench coat. Bai Moqing sniffed lightly. There was also a fresh, elegant perfume scent. She wondered what brand of perfume President Xiao used.
She raised her head and looked in the direction Xiao Xing had left. This time, President Xiao had really gone, right?
