The Demon Venerable Is Delicate and Charming (GL) Chapter 79

Chapter 79

In the end, Yin Wu carried Li Lingjiang back. Li Lingjiang could not walk by her own strength at all. That posture had used a great deal of strength from her waist and abdomen, but Yin Wu seemed much more relaxed. After a round of torment, night had already fallen. The young immortal bathed her, warmed the quilt, and tucked her inside.
Li Lingjiang held Yin Wu’s waist and pinched it, neither lightly nor heavily. “Your stamina is very good.”
Yin Wu kissed her. “Mm. My Lord only realized now?”
Li Lingjiang was very tired. Even her fingertips were too lazy to move. She murmured for a moment. “I did not expect it to be this good.”
These days, Yin Wu had tried every method to make her drink medicine. At first, Yin Wu said it was soup, but how could Li Lingjiang be fooled? The first time, she forced herself to swallow it all in one go. The second time, no matter how Yin Wu coaxed her, she was not very willing. Each time, she had to wait a while before drinking it.
Yin Wu had once asked her, “My Lord, will it be different if you drink it after waiting?”
Li Lingjiang shook her head. Her fingertips tapped the table without rhythm. “Then I can wait a while before feeling miserable.”
The young immortal stretched out an “oh.” The next time, she simply passed the medicine mouth to mouth. That time, Li Lingjiang truly refused. With a tight expression, she drank it all without another word, then explained under Yin Wu’s shocked gaze, “It is a little dirty.”
Yin Wu was speechless.
“My Lord, we sleep in the same bed now, and you still think it is dirty?” Yin Wu propped her chin on her hand and played with the porcelain bowl.
Li Lingjiang sat upright and sighed soundlessly. “No. I do not like it. It feels awful.”
Yin Wu nodded and said she had remembered. From then on, she truly never did such a thing again.
With Yin Wu forcing her to take medicine like this, Li Lingjiang’s sense of taste improved a fair amount. At least she could taste a little. When she ate the dishes Yin Wu prepared, she found the flavors were especially heavy. She quickly connected the cause and effect and very seriously told the young immortal not to do that again.
Afterward, the saltiness of the dishes was much better. Yin Wu listened to her words very well, but she would also ask for repayment from Li Lingjiang’s body one by one. Fortunately, Li Lingjiang enjoyed it too and agreed to almost every request.
Yin Wu picked up a lock of Li Lingjiang’s hair and wound it around her fingertip. The person in her arms was already breathing much more steadily. Yin Wu’s eyes darkened. She bit the tip of her tongue, took a drop of blood, and touched it to Li Lingjiang’s forehead. Then she urged her spiritual power forward, closed her eyes, and carefully sensed that faint connection.
These past few days, she had clearly felt her heart palpitate. She could also faintly sense the existence of “it.” She feared Li Lingjiang would react strongly. Even now, she did not know what effect it would have or what situation might appear. She could only guard against it by instinct.
Yin Wu could feel Li Lingjiang’s faint wariness. She was both glad and not very comfortable. But there was a long time ahead. They still had much time.
She held Li Lingjiang in her arms, kissed her cheek, and said softly, “Sweet dreams.”
When Li Lingjiang woke, the sky was already bright. Yin Wu had gotten up long ago. Li Lingjiang dressed herself with practiced movements. Just as she pushed open the door, she found a wild wind outside. The young immortal stood in the middle of the courtyard, looking at her with a grave expression.
“My Lord, I want to go to the human world.”
Li Lingjiang frowned. “Why? I can go with you. But what is the reason?”
Yin Wu walked toward her. “There is something I need to do. Are you willing to come back with me?”
Li Lingjiang instinctively objected. “What matter? Have you not already ascended?”
As soon as she finished speaking, she immediately sensed something wrong. She looked at Yin Wu, then at everything around them. The young immortal was still explaining, “It is a long story. Will you come with me first?”
Li Lingjiang moved one hand behind her back. Her foot tightened. The instant Yin Wu reached for her, Li Lingjiang turned and pushed open the door. Space twisted at once. An irresistible dizziness struck her mind, and nausea rolled in her stomach.
The process was very quick. In the blink of an eye, she woke from the dream and sat straight up in bed. Her hand reached beside her, but the warmth there had already faded. Faint dawn light showed outside. She put on clothes, got out of bed, and washed. It happened to be the moment Yin Wu pushed the door open and entered.
“My Lord is awake?” Yin Wu bent down and kissed her. Li Lingjiang’s eyes still held wariness and confusion.
Li Lingjiang came back to herself. She looked puzzled and a little depressed. “I dreamed just now that you wanted to go to the human world, but you kept refusing to tell me the reason. I sensed something strange and broke free of the dream myself.”
Yin Wu found it funny and pinched her fingers. “How could that happen? My Lord, do not think too much. I have nothing to handle in the human world.”
“I… thought so too.” Li Lingjiang’s final words fell low, but her brows remained tightly knit.
Before she could work out what was wrong, she heard footsteps approaching them. “My Lord.”
Li Lingjiang recognized the person. It was Feng Luan.
She opened the door and bowed slightly to him. “Immortal Lord, what is the matter?”
Feng Luan returned the salute. His face was heavy. “There are still matters in the human world that have not been resolved.”
He paused and took a breath. “May I come inside to speak?”
Li Lingjiang was also guessing. She stepped aside and waited for Feng Luan to enter. With her hands tucked away, she fixed her gaze on him. “Is it related to the Immortal-Entering Sect?”
Feng Luan nodded. His rabbit ears wiped the thin sweat from his forehead. “Yes. The Immortal-Entering Sect is still suspicious, and the human world is now in a complete mess.”
“You may not know this, but those who abandoned their families and children were far more heartless than the group that followed Wen Si. Each one is like they were bewitched. The Immortal Emperor discussed it with the kings of the other realms and still decided to have the four of us pacify it again.”
Li Lingjiang sat down. Hearing this, she raised her eyes, then lowered them again. Her fingertips tapped the table. Suddenly, she sensed something wrong. She sharply lifted her head. A buzzing filled her ears. She could only see Feng Luan’s mouth moving, but no sound reached her. She turned to look at Yin Wu. Yin Wu was also looking at her, even tilting her head in confusion.
Li Lingjiang blinked slowly. Her brows locked tight, and her hand clenched at once. She pushed herself up from the table. Waves of dizziness rose in her head. The person before her swayed without stopping. In the next instant, her awareness was pulled away.
“My Lord.”
Yin Wu’s voice drifted and finally solidified beside her ear.
Li Lingjiang let out a low sound and struggled to open her eyes. The first thing she saw was Yin Wu’s anxious face. She blinked and did not respond for a moment.
A dream within a dream?
Yin Wu brushed aside her sweat-damp hair. Her voice still carried the hoarseness of having just woken. “What is wrong? Are you uncomfortable somewhere? Why are you sweating so much?”
Li Lingjiang’s hand still rested on Yin Wu’s chest. Her fingertips curled. Beneath her wrist was the young immortal’s strong heartbeat.
Night still showed outside. There was almost no light in the room. She could not see Yin Wu clearly, but she could feel the other woman’s real existence. Her breathing was slow and light, gradually weaving with the young immortal’s.
“I had several dreams,” Li Lingjiang said only after a long while. Her lashes hid the thoughts in her eyes.
Yin Wu touched Li Lingjiang’s beast ear, then slid her hand to Li Lingjiang’s back and checked. At once, she rose. She did not take the words to heart. “Dreams are opposite from reality, My Lord. Your clothes are wet. You need to change, or you will catch cold.”
She got off the bed to find clothes. With a light wave of her hand, the candle lit, throwing a dim glow over the side of her face. “You have not fully recovered. What if it gets worse?”
Li Lingjiang bent one leg and quietly watched Yin Wu move. After thinking for a moment, she raised her hand and moved her wrist a few times. Suddenly, she asked, “Yin Wu, do you want to go to the human world?”
Yin Wu answered casually, “What would I go to the human world for? My Lord, wear this set. There is still time before dawn. Sleep a little longer.”
Li Lingjiang took the clothes, and they wrinkled in her hand. She stared at them for several seconds before slowly undoing her inner garment. Her eyes were lowered, thoughts unknown. The weak candle shadow fell on the wall. Once enlarged, even the slightest sway was clear. It also fell over Li Lingjiang, as if blurring her sight.
Something weighed on Li Lingjiang’s heart, though nothing showed on her face. Half the day had passed. The morning mist was extremely thick. When Yin Wu stood in the middle of the courtyard, Li Lingjiang vaguely thought of the dream, but the young immortal was only scolding the two dragons for fighting, then came over with great grievance to complain while carrying them.
Nothing had changed.
Li Lingjiang felt she was overthinking. It was not empty talk to say that daytime thoughts became nighttime dreams. She had just lifted the medicine bowl. Her lips were only an inch from the edge, and the tip of her red tongue had just peeked out a little. Yin Wu sat across from her, playing with a brush.
Li Lingjiang’s beast ears moved. Footsteps approached outside. Two people. Li Lingjiang froze. Her gaze turned over, and even her breathing slowed for a few beats. Her waist and abdomen tightened, making her suffocate slightly with discomfort.
“My Lord.”
It was Feng Luan.
Her fingers tightened suddenly, and her gaze sharpened. The medicine did not reflect Li Lingjiang’s face clearly. Tiny ripples spread outward from the center, soon vanishing, one ring after another.
Li Lingjiang did not hesitate. She drank it all in one gulp, rose, and opened the door. The first person she saw was Feng Luan. Beside him was someone she had not seen in a long time.
She straightened herself and gave a slight salute. “Immortal Lord Feng Luan, Immortal Lord Qingyun. May I ask why the two of you have come?”
Li Lingjiang’s gaze brushed past Feng Luan. She did not give him the chance to speak. She turned first and walked back. “Come inside and speak.”
Yin Wu consciously moved away. She looked at Qingyun, the corner of her mouth tight, staring fixedly at him.
“I want to discuss this matter with My Lord,” Feng Luan said after sitting down. His eyes were fixed on Li Lingjiang, but the words were meant for Yin Wu.
Yin Wu spread her hands. She said nothing and walked out. Her gentleness vanished in an instant. She casually rubbed her fingertips. This had better be something important.
Li Lingjiang poured tea for Feng Luan and did not leave Qingyun out. She spoke directly. “Is this about the Immortal-Entering Sect?”
“Yes.” Feng Luan was slightly startled. “The Immortal Emperor is still worried and wants the four of us to handle it. He has already discussed it with the kings of each realm. I came this time to ask whether you would go with us.”
Li Lingjiang suddenly lifted her head. Bitterness spread over her tongue. She heard herself say, “Why make Yin Wu leave?”
Qingyun cut in from the side. “She has a marriage connection with you, but even I cannot link you two with red thread. Her identity has been investigated. She is perfectly ordinary, with nothing suspicious.”
He curved his lips and stared into Li Lingjiang’s calm eyes. “That is what makes her most suspicious, is it not?”
