The Demon Venerable Is Delicate and Charming (GL) Chapter 69

Chapter 69

Yin Wu followed the guidance and walked out. With her was the unpleasant Li Jiushi. A thin layer of snow covered the ice, making a faint crunch beneath their feet. None of them spoke. They quietly followed the little lights.
Heaven’s Mandate had sped up quite a bit, but Yin Wu had not found anything from Wen Si’s side. He looked more like a guide in the middle. Yin Wu lowered her eyes slightly. She did not quite believe that guess.
“Where are we going?” About fifteen people had been chosen along with Yin Wu. Someone rubbed his arms, which were almost frozen stiff.
Li Jiushi held her sword. When she had no expression, she looked much more unapproachable. “Did all of you hear Heaven’s Mandate guiding you?”
“I did not.”
“Me too. This light grabbed me out of nowhere.”
Yin Wu raised her brows. She said nothing and instead looked at the few people hunched over in front. She did not know whether they were too nervous or what, but after all this time, they still had not discovered anyone behind them.
Someone rolled a snowball on the ground and threw it straight at the back of the male cultivator in front. Those few people suddenly stopped together. Yin Wu slowly withdrew her expression. She sensed something wrong, then lowered her head to look at the ground. Beneath the thin snow layer, the ice had almost melted away. Under the dark currents, there was danger that could not be seen.
Yin Wu watched the people ahead turn around. After seeing their faces clearly, she was not surprised at all. Cries of shock rose beside her, and she narrowed her eyes.
Less than fifteen minutes had passed between this group leaving and the others following, yet the flesh on their faces had already been torn apart. Their blood had frozen into ice. Their eye sockets were empty, and no one knew where their eyeballs had fallen. They slowly twisted their bodies, then under everyone’s eyes, fell straight to the ground. Their bodies were like blocks of iron. When they struck the ice, they made a huge sound and smashed open a large hole.
Before the others could react, the corpses quickly swelled beneath the ice and burst open like flowers. In the next moment, the ground shook violently. Yin Wu’s gaze sharpened. She shifted position. Floating ice moved with her. She steadied herself and watched the ground before her split apart piece by piece.
“Run! If we fall under the icy lake, we are finished.”
“We will freeze stiff, right? I knew nothing good would happen.”
Li Jiushi was still fairly calm. She steadied herself and prepared to turn away, saying, “Perhaps this is a test for us…”
In the next instant, she could not speak anymore. In the blink of an eye, there was only the floating ice beneath their feet left around them.
Li Jiushi could not help cursing. “It wants us to leave our lives here.”
She was the first to borrow force and try to leap across. Just as she jumped, a pair of huge ice hands reached out from beneath the water. Li Jiushi’s eyes widened. She gritted her teeth and turned sideways to dodge, but because there was no place to land behind her, she fell straight into the water.
The others waited for a long time and never saw her surface. Their hearts tightened. Before they could think of a way, a force pushed the floating ice up from below, and all of them toppled backward uncontrollably. Yin Wu’s expression stayed normal. She relaxed and sank into the water.
The bone-piercing icy water instantly covered her nose and ears. Yin Wu felt no discomfort in the water. She curved her lips faintly and slowly adjusted her posture. She looked around. Blurry black shadows swam rapidly around her. The red thread moved on its own, surrounding her and floating in the current.
The black shadows gave off thick yin energy. Stones also floated in the deep water. On the ice above, blood covered a wide spread of moonlight, making everything dark and oppressive. Yin Wu lowered her breathing. Her finger lightly drew a circle in the water. Ripples formed with it. She seemed to push forward casually, and in the next moment, a huge blaze burned through the entire icy sea.
She was like someone free in the water, using tiny sparks to control the whole ice sea. The black shadows full of vicious energy gave off a sickening stench in the firelight. Yin Wu hooked down the floating red thread. Her eyes were cold as she stared at the filthy things surrounding her.
The hem of her black robe swayed gently in the water. Her movements seemed to slow, but only for an instant. Her palm quickly tightened around the thread. A breaking sound disturbed the rhythm of the water. She slowly lifted her eyes, and the black shadows vanished without a trace. She gave a cold snort and paid them no more attention.
She found several cultivators who had come with her. Li Jiushi had sunk first. Water plants were wrapped all over her body. Her eyes bulged with terror. Black energy kept coming from her, and she had long since stopped breathing. Yin Wu did not approach. She only pointed faintly, and the corpse burst into powder.
She did not need to deliberately search for anyone else. Once they entered the sea, the ending was basically decided. Most had been tangled by their own resentment. As for what that resentment was, Yin Wu had no interest. She looked toward the huge ice arm standing before her and breathed out silently. She seemed a little mocking as she swam smoothly to the side of the arm. “Why would you target me?”
In the next moment, her smile widened, and she punched into the ice. “Then let us use a rougher solution.”
“It saves me from having to hide my aura.”
Compared with what Yin Wu had encountered, Li Lingjiang had mostly expected this. After the group left, she opened her eyes. They were completely clear. She stood and exchanged a knowing glance with Ling Xin beside her, then looked away.
“It seems we are not far from the place.” Li Lingjiang’s voice was not very steady and still carried a chill.
Otherwise, there would not be such a large commotion.
Li Lingjiang looked faintly toward Wen Si. He was losing his temper because people were missing. His eyes dodged around, clearly carrying confusion and worry. Again and again, he looked toward a spot in the distance, as if waiting for something.
Ling Xin lowered his head slightly and said softly, “What do you think will happen this time?”
“In any case, nothing good.” As soon as Li Lingjiang finished, she raised her brows. Then her words changed. “It is here.”
“Why… why is the ground shaking?”
“Is it an earthquake, or…”
“What earthquake? This place is collapsing!”
Someone screamed for everyone to run. Wen Si also reacted quickly and organized the people to head outside.
Feng Luan stood with Wuzhi. He took off the outer robe on his body and gently draped it over Li Lingjiang’s shoulders. “Thank you, My Lord.”
Li Lingjiang raised her head to stop him. She looked straight ahead and strode outside. The four followed a step behind her. The moment they walked out unhurriedly, a huge sound of ice cracking and collapsing came from behind them. Everything happened at just the right time.
She turned around and watched calmly. In a daze, she seemed to carry the pressure of a ruler. Li Lingjiang stood in place.
The ice gradually merged with the ground. The cultivators held their breaths and stared. Under their burning gazes, ice figures rose one by one from the ground. Before any sound came, Li Lingjiang’s beast ears tilted slightly. At last, she lifted her eyes. They were full of sharpness and ruthlessness.
She stepped back a little. The top of her foot touched a sword someone had dropped in panic. Her hand, hidden beneath her sleeve, clenched tighter. With a clever twist of her ankle, Li Lingjiang hooked the sword into the air, and it landed steadily in her hand.
Li Lingjiang drew the sword. With only a slight turn of the blade, one could faintly sense sword intent coming from it. An ordinary sword seemed as if it had been born for her.
She held the sword and drew a sharp line across the ground. The scraping sound tugged at everyone else’s heart.
Ling Xin was still uneasy. He called softly, “My Lord!”
Li Lingjiang glanced sideways at him. She lifted a finger to her lips. “Trust me.”
As soon as she finished speaking, the ice figures rushed over. Thick black energy wrapped around them. Li Lingjiang lifted her eyes and looked over, the corner of her mouth curving slightly. The moment she picked up a sword, it was as if she became another person. All things in the world no longer stood against her. Her deep blue outer robe moved with her actions.
Li Lingjiang moved very fast, using a small force to turn aside a great one. She dodged a deadly attack sideways, the sword body pressing against an ice figure’s arm. Her eyes narrowed slightly. With only a light turn of her wrist, she pierced and shattered it. Her hair fell along both sides of her face. At a glance, the white strands almost blended into the world around her.
The sound of sword and ice colliding rose one after another. Li Lingjiang’s figure moved quickly. The sword was like a part of herself. Snow began to fall from the air, landing on her hair and quickly melting. Her gaze was full of coldness. Without turning her head, she tossed the sword slightly into the air, caught the hilt steadily, blade pointing down, then flipped her wrist and stabbed straight into the ice figure behind someone.
The four moved quickly, and their attacks were ruthless, but they still could not stop some people from falling into traps. Shi Baisheng once again saw someone fall into an ice pit. In the next moment, an ice blade pierced that person from below.
His pupils trembled. He shouted at Wen Si, “This will not work. People are dying too fast. Take them away first. I will cover the rear.”
Wen Si seemed apologetic and disbelieving. He gritted his teeth and was just about to agree when his eyes widened. He roared, “Senior Brother Shi, careful!”
Shi Baisheng sensed something strange behind him, an aura full of bone-piercing cold. His whole body chilled. He stiffly turned around. The person who had clearly died before him a moment ago had actually come back to life. That person’s whole body was covered in ice shards. They were not alive at all.
Shi Baisheng had just raised his sword to defend when, in an instant, they exchanged hundreds of moves. He gritted his teeth and resisted. No one knew why the dead person’s strength had soared after death. Even he was nearly unable to hold on. Just when he had no way out, a sword too fast to follow pierced through the dead person’s waist and abdomen. Blood rolled down along the blade.
Shi Baisheng froze and looked toward Li Lingjiang, who had folded her hands away with a calm face. He wanted to say something but held it back. In the end, he turned and left to help the others.
Li Lingjiang stood steadily in place. Her steps were a little weak as she retreated. After only a couple steps, she sensed wetness behind her, along with breath that carried body heat.
She lowered her eyes. Just as she was about to move, the person behind her caught her wrist and lifted it. A familiar voice was low at this moment. “My Lord, you are very skilled with a sword.”
Li Lingjiang did not struggle. She even let herself be pulled into turning back. “Am I?”
Yin Wu looked toward the cultivators, who now numbered fewer than thirty, and lifted her lips. Her whole body was wet, and drops of water from her hair fell into the hollow of Li Lingjiang’s shoulder, but Li Lingjiang showed no discomfort.
“Why did you not dry yourself?”
Li Lingjiang asked.
Yin Wu drew out a smile. Her palm was full of blood. In it was a small black bead. She opened Li Lingjiang’s hand, placed the bead inside, then closed her fingers around it. Under both of their pressure, the bead began to crack.
“Because I wanted you to comfort me.”
As the young immortal’s words fell, the bead shattered amid the blood that had sunk between their fingers. The ice began to retreat from beneath their feet. In an instant, it turned into cloud and smoke. Li Lingjiang stared at Yin Wu. The snow that had fallen into Yin Wu’s hair melted into water and became one with her.
With a soft tap,
it fell to the ground and was swallowed clean.
