Li Lingjiang returned the bowl to Yin Wu’s hands. At some point, the young immortal had found a piece of candy. She offered it up like a treasure.
“Demon Lord, if you eat this, it will not taste bitter anymore.”
Li Lingjiang did not take it. She fixed her eyes on Yin Wu for a few seconds, then moved her gaze away and lowered her head to tidy the gauze on her hands.
“No need. I can no longer taste much of anything. You eat it.”
Yin Wu’s eyes widened slightly. She lowered her head in disappointment and put the candy away. After arranging everything, she folded her hands together and lay at the bedside, looking up at Li Lingjiang.
Her lips were pouted, and she looked unhappy.
Li Lingjiang caught sight of it from the corner of her eye and could not help laughing. She really was still a child.
Li Lingjiang shifted position. Her protruding shoulder blades leaned against the head of the bed. She reached out to smooth Yin Wu’s messy hair. Yin Wu’s body instantly stiffened. Li Lingjiang’s fingertips touched a moment of warmth and softness, then quickly withdrew. She watched Yin Wu’s ear tips turn red.
“What are you shy about? Let me see your wound.” Li Lingjiang patted the person who had buried her head in her arms. She did not see the sly look flash through Yin Wu’s eyes.
Yin Wu obediently rolled up her sleeve. Today, she wore a plain white hemp robe. Who knew where she had found it? It looked especially old, but on her, it had a simple beauty.
The young immortal’s skin was very fair, and her body temperature was a little high. Without any reservation, Li Lingjiang reached out and pulled her closer to check. Holding Yin Wu’s arm, she was startled to feel the strong muscles beneath it, as well as the pulsing meridians. She glanced at Yin Wu, then withdrew her gaze with approval.
Her talent was not bad. If she were trained more, she would surely become someone capable.
Li Lingjiang thought this but did not say anything. She seriously inspected the wound. On Yin Wu’s right arm were several claw marks deep enough to faintly show white bone. Flesh had turned outward with them and had become an unnatural color. After improper treatment, there were even signs of pus and inflammation. Li Lingjiang had only tugged on it with a little force when Yin Wu shrank back in pain.
She lifted her eyes and frowned over. Yin Wu immediately hunched her neck and met her gaze innocently, calling timidly, “Demon Lord, is it very serious?”
Li Lingjiang’s tone was calm. She patted the bed, signaling for her to sit. “Does it not hurt?”
Yin Wu had just wanted to shake her head when she met Li Lingjiang’s black eyes. She mumbled and answered honestly, “It hurts.”
At some point, wind had begun to blow outside. It swept around the old wooden cabin, and the creaking became the only sound on the silent No-Return Mountain. Dry, withered branches cast shadows on the window cloth. At first glance, they were somewhat frightening. The wind sounded hoarse, and if one listened closely, one could almost hear a sobbing note inside it.
Li Lingjiang’s hair fell over both cheeks. Serious focus was reflected in her eyes. She held Dragonwhisker Grass between her fingers. Little Black still had one stalk in its mouth, and Little White lay crookedly on its body. Her fingers gradually turned sharp, and her skin shifted toward a dark purplish black. With a faintly frightening grinding sound, she rubbed the herb apart. With a slight movement, the medicinal powder that had become fine dust scattered over Yin Wu’s wound.
The pus quickly soaked into the powder, and the color gradually deepened. Yin Wu drew in a pained breath. Tears quickly misted her eyes, making the heart tighten at the sight. Li Lingjiang carefully blew on the wound.
“It will stop hurting in a moment. Endure it.”
Yin Wu held back her tears and smiled at her. Then, as if curious, she looked at Li Lingjiang’s hand. “Has your demonic power recovered?”
“No.”
Li Lingjiang repeated the same motion again, then picked up the gauze nearby and began bandaging her. “My original form is a demon lion. I naturally have absolute strength. This is not difficult.”
Yin Wu looked as if she had learned something new. “So that is how it is. Then the ears on your head are lion ears?”
Perhaps because they were mentioned, the ears on Li Lingjiang’s head stood up and flicked. The fine, soft fur looked delicate and cute. Yin Wu’s palm suddenly itched, and she had the urge to stroke them.
She endured it and moved her gaze away, changing the topic. “Demon Lord, your movements are so practiced.”
Li Lingjiang said casually, “In the past, I bandaged trusted subordinates around me. I also often handled my own wounds, so my movements became much more practiced.”
“Done. Come to me every day to change the medicine. Next time, you must be careful.”
Yin Wu’s expression did not change. Her smile remained bright. She tilted her head to look at the glaring white gauze, then carelessly threw a glance at the white dragon and withdrew it without a sound. The blue dragon eyes darkened. Its white wings suddenly flapped, and it flew down to the ground.
“Demon Lord is truly good to her subordinates.” No rise or fall could be heard in Yin Wu’s voice. A dark, fierce look flashed through her eyes. If she had not slept for a thousand years at a time, how could anyone else have had the chance to pass through Li Lingjiang’s hands?
But thankfully, this person was now under her control. At least she would not be lured away again.
Yin Wu’s finger bones tightened with a creak. When she raised her head again, she wore an innocent look. “Demon Lord, I heard Immortal Lord Qingyun was punished.”
Sure enough, Li Lingjiang raised her head and looked at her with a slight frown. “Mm?”
Yin Wu seemed frightened just thinking about it. In a small, soft voice, she said, “I heard Immortal Lord Qingyun suffered a very serious punishment. Both his hands were broken and then reattached. There were more than twenty whip marks all over his body. Blood was everywhere in his sleeping palace. The Immortal Emperor said this was punishment. According to the immortal maidens, Immortal Lord Qingyun has a high fever every night and talks nonsense all day. When he is a little better in the daytime, he just sits in a daze. It took a long time before the bleeding from his wounds finally stopped. It was terrifying.”
“The red threads would not wind back onto him either, so the Immortal Emperor had someone else take over his duties for now.”
After saying this, she looked for Li Lingjiang’s expression. She saw Li Lingjiang lightly crook a finger under Little White’s jaw. There was nothing else in her eyes. She even seemed rather pleased.
“Is that not quite good? What does it have to do with me?”
Her tone when she said this was different from usual. It lifted much more, making it obvious that she was in a good mood.
Yin Wu secretly curled her lips in satisfaction. It was not in vain that she had specially gone to find Qingyun. As expected, this person was no kind soul.
She smiled faintly and braced a hand on her knee to stand. “Then I will go do my tasks first. If you need anything, just call me.”
Li Lingjiang nodded. She propped herself with both hands, trying to sit up straighter. Her attention was all on herself, and she did not notice Yin Wu.
Yin Wu stood. Before she had taken even one step, she seemed to remember something and turned back to explain. But because she was not paying attention, she was tripped by the white dragon. In the panic, she fell straight toward Li Lingjiang.
“Demon Lord, you need to-”
Her words broke off halfway. Li Lingjiang lowered her head. Familiar clothes filled her vision. Hot breath covered her neck. The roaring wind still blew outside, and the doors and windows rustled. She had no time to care. She lowered her eyes and stared at the person carefully raising her head.
Yin Wu’s hand still rested on her waist. Li Lingjiang’s whole body was almost lying back on the bed, with only a small part of her shoulder bones leaning against the wall to hold up a space. She felt the side of her neck was about to burn. Li Lingjiang did not think too much. She only felt somewhat unnatural and wanted to move. She slowly breathed out and patted Yin Wu.
“Demon Lord.” Yin Wu raised her head and stared at her, from the tips of her beast ears down to her long neck wrapped in thick gauze. The wrappings only added a sense of mystery. The urge to explore in Yin Wu’s eyes almost could not be hidden. The beast ears trembled without their owner realizing, expressing emotion better than Li Lingjiang herself.
Yin Wu laughed softly and seemed to lean a little closer by accident. “Demon Lord, I always feel as if I have seen someone very like you. She also had a pair of ears like this.”
Li Lingjiang turned her head away unnaturally, but she still answered with good patience. “Is that so?”
“But it should be impossible. She was still so small then.” Yin Wu laughed after saying it. She hooked Li Lingjiang’s gaze with her own, while her fingertips quickly wrote a spell at Li Lingjiang’s waist.
Silently.
Only after finishing everything did Yin Wu stand with an apologetic expression and lower her head in self-reproach. “Little White knocked me over. Demon Lord, are you hurt?”
The warm body temperature vanished in an instant. Li Lingjiang instinctively looked toward the side of her waist that had been warmed. Without suspecting anything, she denied it and sat up again.
“I am fine. What did you want to say?”
Yin Wu tilted her head and showed her small fangs, like a beast lying in wait. She asked, “Demon Lord, do you want to sit in the little yard? I planted flowers.”
