The Demon Venerable Is Delicate and Charming (GL) Chapter 30

Chapter 30

Yin Wu moved very quickly. Before anyone could react, she had already arrived beside Li Lingjiang. The copper coins gave a dull little clink.
Li Lingjiang was somewhat startled, but she quickly covered it. She turned back to look at the path Yin Wu had taken. Instead of questioning her movement technique, she frowned with a little blame. “Was that not dangerous?”
“I am not afraid.” Yin Wu answered and patted away dust that did not exist. “I do not joke with my own safety.”
Li Lingjiang glanced at her again, then relaxed her brows and turned to continue upward. “What is it?”
Yin Wu followed behind her. The distance between them was less than one stone step. If Li Lingjiang stopped for even half a breath, they would touch.
The young immortal hooked the copper coins around her finger and spun them. She seemed to ask casually, “Have you come here before?”
“Why ask that?”
Yin Wu continued, “I saw them leave you behind.”
Li Lingjiang’s gaze did not move. No joy or anger could be heard in her voice. “They did not leave me behind.”
Yin Wu suddenly stopped. She reached out and caught Li Lingjiang’s robe. With one rub of her fingertips, she sensed something wrong. The cloth was quite damp. Her eyes darkened, then returned to normal. Qi San’s black robe was truly a good thing. It had covered the signs perfectly.
“My Lord.” Yin Wu’s tail note hooked very softly, as if she were deliberately waiting for Li Lingjiang to turn around.
In fact, Li Lingjiang did turn around according to her wish. The difference in their height was not great. With her eyes lowered a little, Li Lingjiang could see every expression on Yin Wu’s face. She gave a light “Mm.”
The people behind them were still several steps away. Yin Wu smiled and said, “I did not dare ask earlier, but now I want to ask. My Lord, will you wear it?”
Li Lingjiang half narrowed her eyes. “What?”
Yin Wu’s other hand hung naturally at her side. The string of copper coins was especially eye-catching as it swayed in the wind. “I strung a little charm for you. I have learned some blessing spells for peace and safety. It is nothing impressive, but I still hope you can wear it.”
“Things that can read the past and future are not hard to find.”
Following Yin Wu’s movement, Li Lingjiang looked at the ornament raised before her eyes once more. She fell silent and did not reach out.
Yin Wu did not retreat. “This is a charm I made. It means long life, no illness, and no disaster. It is like keeping me at your side. I always feel you are missing something. In the future, you can use this to trade for one of me. What a good bargain.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Li Lingjiang turned to leave. Yin Wu did not loosen her grip and hurriedly said, “I am valuable.”
Li Lingjiang completely lost her temper. Very soon, she compromised. With a helpless face, she accepted the charm and pinned it at her waist. A strand of red wound around the black robe, adding a solemn mystery to her.
“I did not say you were not valuable,” Li Lingjiang explained.
Yin Wu did not continue on that point. Instead, she pressed her lips together in a hoarse silence. She stood still for a while, light shining in her eyes. “My Lord, you still have not answered my question. But it does not matter.”
Then she suddenly seemed to remember something, and her expression grew conflicted. “I said I would keep you company, but I seem to have overstepped.”
Li Lingjiang sensed another meaning in those words. At first, she paused very obviously. Only after a moment did she ask in a low voice, “What do you mean?”
Yin Wu spread her hands and was silent for a few seconds. She could feel the presences behind them growing closer. “My Lord, my strength is not high. It is reasonable to arrange me at the rear. That way both sides have someone watching them. Otherwise, I should go back. This was my fault.”
After she finished, Li Lingjiang opened her mouth as if she wanted to say something, but she held it back. She looked at Yin Wu for a few seconds, seeming to understand some of her meaning. An unreadable trace appeared in her eyes without a sound. She breathed out slowly, turned without looking back, and walked upward. Her steps were even faster than before.
Yin Wu: “…”
A miscalculation.
She bent a finger against her lips and gave a completely unconvincing cough. Then she strode upward. In the blink of an eye, she had thrown off Wen Si, who had been struggling to catch up behind her.
Wen Si stared in disbelief as the distance between them grew wider and wider. Holding the stone wall, he was speechless for a long while.
“Hey.” Yin Wu grabbed Li Lingjiang’s sleeve and held it tightly, afraid she would run off.
Li Lingjiang slowed a little and glanced back down at her. “Were you not going back?”
Yin Wu smiled awkwardly and softened her voice. “My Lord, that was not what I meant.”
“So I misunderstood. The one keeping me company is a string of copper coins.”
Yin Wu sucked in a breath. “That is even less what I meant.”
After thinking over her words for a long time, she simply gave up on finesse. “Let me stay beside you. I should not have played little tricks. I do not want to follow at the back.”
Her voice grew smaller as she spoke, and the last words clearly carried resentment.
“Just treat it as getting me as an extra gift with the charm.”
Yin Wu explained softly, “I wanted you to ask me to stay. Then I could properly follow at your side. Just now, you saw me and ignored me.”
Her original intention had been for Li Lingjiang to coax her a little. In truth, she had not hidden much. It could be said she had frankly laid her goal bare in front of Li Lingjiang. She felt Li Lingjiang had seen through it.
Only this person was far more indifferent than she had imagined. She had come alone, and when she wanted to leave, she would also leave with sleeves untouched by worldly dust.
Hearing this, Li Lingjiang’s eyes filled with tiny points of laughter. She did not pull back her sleeve and continued leading Yin Wu upward. Her back was straight, and her waist drew the folds of her robe. “I do not often come here.”
Yin Wu’s eyes brightened. Her earlier gloom vanished at once. She was almost happy enough to hop twice. She gave Li Lingjiang’s sleeve a small shake. When Li Lingjiang noticed, she slowly tugged it back and calmly glanced at her. The young immortal immediately steadied herself and quieted down.
“Then from now on, I will come with you every time.” Yin Wu moved close and whispered, “I will not lie to you.”
Li Lingjiang did not look away and did not make a sound. She only quietly watched Ling Xin’s back.
Suddenly, she pressed her lips together and laughed soundlessly. With a soft sigh, she seemed to lose strength all at once. The feeling of being unable to do what she wished was stronger than ever. She did not need to prove anything. In the past, she had also stood in a high position.
A late-blooming defiance made her feel faintly restless, as if she could not breathe.
Yin Wu noticed something. She caught Li Lingjiang’s robe corner again, holding only a little. “My Lord, walk slower. I cannot keep up.”
Li Lingjiang had not missed the way Yin Wu had just walked in great strides. She did not expose the person lying with open eyes. She even cooperated and slowed down.
Walking in front, Feng Luan watched Yin Wu’s series of actions and clicked his tongue in wonder. He patted Ling Xin’s shoulder and teased, “Looks like your weight cannot compare to someone she has known for only a few days.”
Ling Xin slapped his hand away. His expression was not very bad. “Stop sowing discord. My relationship with My Lord is different. Besides, it is a good thing that someone can stay with her. I am happy before anything else.”
Feng Luan laughed shortly. Then he suddenly sensed something strange and reached out by instinct. A huge impact numbed his hand, and an enormous skull slowly opened its mouth and landed steadily in his palm.
Feng Luan: “…”
