Running Off With The Sect Senior Sister Chapter 64

Picking Up a Child

Spring passed and autumn came. Time flew by, and in the blink of an eye, several years had gone.
It was the dead of winter. Outside the cave, a cold wind howled and heavy snow swirled. Inside, a magic array kept it very warm.
Luo Tangtang slowly opened her eyes. Her head touched something soft. A trace of sleepy confusion appeared in her eyes, her pupils slightly unfocused.
“Sleep a little longer, hmm.” The words came from beside her head. Luo Tangtang felt an arm tighten around her waist, pulling her into an embrace. A warm body and breath enveloped her, shielding her from the harsh cold.
Luo Tangtang paused for a moment, then gently pushed away the head buried in her neck. “Get up,” she said coolly. But due to her long sleep, her voice was a little hoarse, like a cat purring, carrying a hint of playful charm.
“Senior Sister, let’s sleep a little longer,” Yun Shayi mumbled, her eyes closed, completely unwilling to get up.
Luo Tangtang pressed her throbbing temples. The next moment, Yun Shayi went flying sideways.
“Aah—!” A miserable shriek.
Yun Shayi stood up from the porcelain basin, looking upset. Her lower body was submerged in water, and her upper body was soaked through. Dark hair clung to her cheeks, framing her crimson lips. She looked like a charming water spirit, with a captivating allure.
Luo Tangtang averted her gaze, feeling a little uneasy.
“Get out of bed.” Her tone was even colder this time.
She still couldn’t get over her aversion to cold. Come winter, she became as fragile as a newborn mortal infant, her body always icy.
One day, Yun Shayi noticed this and insisted on sleeping with her at night to keep her warm. Faced with that face, identical to the one in her memories, Luo Tangtang found it impossible to refuse.
However, because of this, Yun Shayi seemed to have found an excuse to be lazy, sleeping late every day, completely unresponsive to calls to wake up.
Helpless, Luo Tangtang had placed a basin of cold water in the cave. If Yun Shayi refused to get up, she would toss her in.
“Senior Sister, it’s so cold.” Yun Shayi’s gaze grew even more pitiful. When Luo Tangtang ignored her, she simply rested her chin on the rim of the basin, looking up at Luo Tangtang with pleading, cat-like eyes.
“Clang.” A staff materialized in mid-air and slammed onto the water surface right next to Yun Shayi, sending up a splash.
Luo Tangtang shot her a cold glare and repeated, “Get. Out. Of. Bed.”
Yun Shayi froze. Seeing the anger on Luo Tangtang’s face, she scrambled out of the basin without another word.
“I’m getting up right now!” she exclaimed. “Senior Sister, please don’t be angry.”
Yun Shayi’s talent was extraordinary. Perhaps the Main God had once truly favored the central figure of the first world He created. Apart from the initial few years of turmoil in the Yun family, during which Yun Shayi suffered greatly, her life these past years had been remarkably smooth.
In merely ten years, her cultivation had reached the peak of the Soul Departure realm, just a step away from the Soul Transformation stage. Most disciples of her generation were still at the Golden Core or Nascent Soul realms.
Because of this, she was directly designated as the next successor of the Yun family and had even earned Ye Siwen’s approval. Once she broke through, she could become the Peak Lord of one of the eight main peaks—a future of limitless possibilities.
Yet, this person with a limitless future was currently frowning, her small face scrunched up as she changed her clothes.
“Wear this one,” Luo Tangtang said, pointing to a red dress. Yun Shayi glanced at Luo Tangtang’s own clean white robes, hesitated for a moment, then changed into the red attire.
The Extreme North Realm was about to open, and they needed to prepare in advance.
“You’re finally up?” As soon as they stepped out, they saw Luo Er approaching from a distance.
Three years ago, Luo Er, unable to bear Yun Shayi’s constant clinginess, had already moved out.
“Luo Er,” Yun Shayi said, smiling brightly.
Many years had passed, and Luo Er had grown a bit taller, but she remained petite with a distinctly round, bun-like face.
Luo Er rolled her eyes, not wanting to even look at her.
“Let’s get going. I was starting to think you two had died in bed and I’d have to collect your corpses.”
“Haha, you have such a wild imagination!” Yun Shayi laughed heartily, completely unfazed by the sarcastic remark.
Luo Er’s expression darkened. She closed her eyes, not wanting to look at this annoying person.
“Alright, stop bickering,” Luo Tangtang said calmly. “We can leave now.”
“Not to complain, but the Sect Master has gotten really stingy these past few years. Not even providing any means of transport for training trips anymore,” Yun Shayi commented, shrugging.
That was right. All disciples of the Supreme Immortal Sect had to arrange their own travel; the sect took no responsibility for it.
Luo Tangtang frowned slightly. She looked up at the boundless sky. It was as calm as still water, seemingly without the slightest ripple, but…
“Can’t you fly on your own?” Luo Er shot Yun Shayi a glare upon hearing her complaint.
Yun Shayi wasn’t offended and just laughed heartily. “Well, that’s true.”
How did she end up like this? Luo Er’s mouth twitched. She looked at Luo Tangtang with narrowed eyes.
Luo Tangtang merely gave her a silent glance.
“Hey, now you’re both ignoring me!” Luo Er said, unbelieving, as Luo Tangtang simply walked past her.
Fine, fine, she thought. I never should have moved out and given them space. Now they’re teaming up to annoy me.
The Extreme North Realm was located in the far north. Luo Tangtang led Yun Shayi and Luo Er on their journey northward.
They traveled through the night, only stopping when they reached a small mountain village.
“Let’s rest here for a few days,” Luo Er said, her words slurring slightly with exhaustion. She was very tired.
Luo Tangtang nodded. They found a small inn nearby and settled in.
“Luo Yi, I’ll go get us something to eat,” Yun Shayi said softly, looking at Luo Yi, who sat on the bed with a tired expression.
“No need.” Luo Tangtang shook her head. She rarely ate mortal food anymore.
“We should get some anyway. Otherwise, Luo Er will make a fuss when she wakes up,” Yun Shayi said, her eyes twinkling, as she pointed to Luo Er, who was sleeping like a log.
Luo Tangtang tilted her head slightly, her jaw tightening, and shot a glance in that direction.
Yun Shayi looked away guiltily and touched her nose. “Actually, I’m the one who wants to eat.”
“Mm,” Luo Tangtang replied, closing her eyes.
For some reason, ‘the rift’ has recently become a taboo topic. Only the upper echelons of the cultivation world are aware of it; even Yun Shayi knows nothing.
Why? What exactly are Ye Siwen and the others planning?
Luo Tangtang’s expression grew serious.
“Bang!” The door was shoved open violently.
Yun Shayi rushed in, her face etched with anxiety.
“Luo Yi, quickly, come take a look at him!”
Yun Shayi was holding a young boy in her arms.
Luo Tangtang’s brows furrowed instantly. She rose and gestured for Yun Shayi to bring the boy to her.
The boy had no visible injuries, but he cowered in Yun Shayi’s embrace, refusing to emerge, and trembled uncontrollably.
“He’s a demon,” Luo Tangtang stated, sensing an unusual aura coming from the boy.
“A demon?” Yun Shayi exclaimed in surprise. The boy in her arms trembled even more violently.
“Why is he shaking so much more now?” Yun Shayi asked, her eyes filled with concern.
“Don’t worry, we won’t hurt you,” Yun Shayi quickly reassured him.
“Lay him on the bed first,” Luo Tangtang instructed.
Yun Shayi immediately pushed Luo Er aside and gently placed the boy on the bed.
“What’s happening?” Luo Er, who had been sleeping soundly, mumbled drowsily as she was shoved aside. She was about to flare up in anger when a shadow fell over her. Opening her eyes, she saw a small, dirty face.
“Whoa!” Luo Er shot up suddenly.
“Wh-wh-who is he?!” Luo Er cried out, pulling the blanket around herself, her face a mask of terror.
Yun Shayi: “…”
“A demon cultivator!” Luo Er exclaimed.
“Luo Er, be quiet.” Luo Tangtang placed her fingertips on the boy’s wrist, feeling his pulse. It was unsteady.
“No, it’s not just that! Look at his face!”
At some point, the boy’s face had become covered in scales. Dark energy came from his body, and his veins bulged prominently.
“Are those… dragon scales?” Luo Tangtang felt a shock.
Could it be…? Luo Tangtang’s mind was in a whirl. She looked at the boy’s face, her feelings mixed. Black dragon scales.
From ancient times to the present, there had only been one such being: the Demon Lord Yun Shan.
The boy’s identity was instantly clear.
“His bloodline is likely too strong. Without guidance from his clan’s elders, he’s struggling to control it,” Luo Tangtang said, withdrawing her hand.
She quickly wrote a prescription and handed it to Yun Shayi. “Go brew this medicine for him.”
“He’ll be alright, won’t he?” Yun Shayi asked, staring into space at the boy whose face was twisted in pain.
Luo Tangtang abruptly stood up.
“What is it?” Yun Shayi was startled by her sudden movement.
Luo Tangtang took a deep breath, trying to calm the agitation inside her. “You go brew the medicine. I need to step out for a moment.”
Without waiting for Yun Shayi’s dazed reaction, she turned and left.
“What’s wrong with you?” Luo Er suddenly appeared behind her and asked.
She took a few steps to walk beside Luo Tangtang. “You’ve been acting increasingly strange lately.”
“Tsk, the view is quite nice.” The small town backed onto a mountain. Luo Tangtang, preferring quiet, had come to the summit. Before her, rolling mountains and layered rocky peaks stretched out. A breeze swept through, rustling the treetops.
“You can feel it too, can’t you?” Luo Er spread her arms wide as if to embrace the view before them. She slanted a look at Luo Tangtang. “The energy from the rift.”
“Ye Siwen and the others… they probably can’t hold out much longer.”
“Mm,” Luo Tangtang acknowledged with a nod.
“What should we do then?”
“I don’t know.”
“Forget it. I’ll go find the Main God in a few days and ask,” Luo Er said with a helpless sigh. She sat down cross-legged, a rare sense of peace settling in her heart.
“Luo Er,” Luo Tangtang suddenly said.
“What?”
“Do you think… we can change things?” Luo Tangtang’s voice was soft, like a whisper of wind that might scatter at any moment.
“Don’t you dare do anything foolish!” Luo Er exclaimed, startled by Luo Tangtang’s words. She warned her agitatedly.
“The Main God won’t appreciate us taking matters into our own hands! A person’s destiny is set from the moment of their creation. We can’t change it, and we mustn’t change it.”
Luo Tangtang slowly closed her eyes. “Is that so…”
“Yes, Luo Yi!” Luo Er became completely serious. She grabbed Luo Tangtang’s hand, her expression serious. “I know you might have… developed certain feelings for them, but we absolutely, truly cannot defy the Main God.”
“Do you remember what happened to Luo Si?”
Luo Si was also a system created by the Main God. While carrying out a mission, Luo Si developed feelings for the people of that world and, without permission, altered their destined fate. When the Main God found out, He was enraged and erased Luo Si.
“Even if the Main God doesn’t erase you, He has countless ways to punish you.”
“Luo Er, I know,” Luo Tangtang said quietly after a moment of silence.
But, can one truly remain detached?
She couldn’t. Could Luo Er?
“Luo Yi!” Yun Shayi exclaimed, quickly getting to her feet when she saw Luo Tangtang return.
“Is he better?” Luo Tangtang asked, glancing at the little boy who sat on a stool, looking nervous and suspicious, before calmly averting her eyes.
“Yes, yes! He’s much better after taking the medicine. He’s not in pain anymore,” Yun Shayi replied, looking at the boy, the scales on his face now gone.
“Where did you find him? He’s actually… surprisingly good-looking.” With the dirt wiped away, his small face was revealed to be fair and smooth. The child’s eyes were like obsidian, dark and bright. He was handsome, you could even say he was beautiful.
Even Luo Er couldn’t bring herself to call him ugly.
“I found him near the mountain. He was being bullied by some other children, so I brought him back,” Yun Shayi explained.
“So, what about him when we go to the Extreme North Realm?” Luo Er asked, thinking hard for once.
Yun Shayi was also troubled. They didn’t know what the Extreme North Realm would be like, but it was bound to be dangerous. She couldn’t take a child on such a dangerous journey.
“I don’t want to leave you!” the little boy suddenly cried, scrambling off the stool and rushing to Yun Shayi’s side, clutching the hem of her robes.
This made Yun Shayi even more troubled.
“What about your family?” Luo Tangtang asked.
“I… I don’t remember,” the little boy mumbled, lowering his head.
“Now what are we supposed to do?” Luo Er groaned, covering her face. So many problems, it’s giving me a headache.
Luo Tangtang also turned her gaze to Yun Shayi.
“I… well…” Yun Shayi stammered. “How about… you stay here for now? We’ll come back for you after we return from the Extreme North Realm.”
The little boy’s eyes instantly dimmed.
“The place we’re going is too dangerous,” Yun Shayi explained, her voice tinged with helplessness. She had rescued him; she couldn’t just abandon him.
“Hey, wait! I think I know a place for him!” Luo Er suddenly exclaimed, her eyes brightening as an idea struck her.
“What is it?”
“Isn’t he a demon? He can go to the Demon Clan! As it happens, I have a friend there.”
Luo Er grinned. This was the first world the Main God had created, and everything in it was well-ordered, including the relationships between the various major races and the cultivation world.
“That sounds like a good idea,” Yun Shayi nodded in agreement.
“I don’t want to leave you,” the little boy insisted, his face gloomy.
“All good things must come to an end,” Yun Shayi said gently, stroking his hair. “If fate allows, we will meet again.”
The little boy lowered his head. After a long moment, he asked, “What’s your name?”
“Yun Shayi.” Yun Shayi smiled. “My name is Yun Shayi.”
