“What? Why are you back again?” Luo Er asked, her eyes filled with confusion.
“Luo Yi, Luo Yi, are you unwell?” Yun Shayi anxiously grabbed her. A red mark immediately appeared on Luo Tangtang’s wrist.
The familiar face gradually overlapped with the innocent one before her, making Luo Tangtang dazed for a moment.
She rubbed her temples. Her drooping eyelids, fringed with dense lashes, made her look somewhat fragile.
“I’m fine,” she said, her voice hoarse.
“Then why were you shouting and yelling?” Luo Er grumbled, “I was sleeping, Luo Yi. You have no manners.”
Luo Er muttered, but quietly, she let out a sigh of relief.
“Have the flowers on the mountain bloomed yet?” Luo Tangtang didn’t answer Luo Er, instead asking this seemingly random question.
“Huh?” This time it was Yun Shayi’s turn to be surprised. Her face showed contemplation, and after a pause, she said, “It seems like there aren’t any particular flowers!”
Hearing this, Luo Tangtang’s body moved almost imperceptibly. Her lips pressed into a thin line, and she looked a little gloomy.
“Does Luo Yi like flowers? I can pick some for you,” Yun Shayi said quickly when she saw Luo Tangtang like this.
“No need,” Luo Tangtang looked up at her, her tone somewhat light. “Want to go out for a walk?”
“Okay, okay,” Yun Shayi was stunned for a moment, then quickly agreed.
Perhaps seeing that Luo Tangtang’s expression was off, Luo Er didn’t insist on going with them, though a hint of worry touched her face.
Luo Tangtang’s mind was in turmoil. She grabbed Yun Shayi’s hand and led her to sneak out of the sect. Today was a rest day, so they had plenty of time.
It was very lively at the foot of the mountain, a scene of peace and prosperity. People came and went in a constant, bustling stream.
Hexagonal, up-turned eaves were arranged in staggered heights. When Luo Tangtang looked up, she could see bright red lanterns hanging from them, a dazzling red.
Yun Shayi watched her for a long time. Throughout their walk, her gaze never left Luo Tangtang’s face for even a second. Luo Tangtang’s expression was very calm, but Yun Shayi always felt that beneath the calmness, indescribable emotions were hidden.
Yun Shayi had a gut feeling that if these emotions were to surface on Luo Tangtang’s face, it would be like a raging tempest, an unimaginable mixture of despair and helplessness.
Luo Tangtang’s eyes were dim and lifeless, yet the corners of her mouth slowly curved upwards. Her voice, unfamiliar to Yun Shayi, was soft. “It’s just the flowers on the mountaintop… no matter what I do, they won’t grow.”
Her voice suddenly dropped at the end, tinged with dejection and bitterness.
“It’s… it’s okay.” Yun Shayi’s small face was full of anxiety. She said loudly, “I can help Luo Yi plant flowers. One day, we’ll be able to make them grow!”
Yun Shayi’s face was flushed, looking a bit shy. When Luo Tangtang looked over at her, her face turned even redder. Her eyes subconsciously wanted to dart away, but she fiercely controlled the urge.
With a face so red it looked like it might drip blood, her small hands clenched tightly, she looked at Luo Tangtang with determination.
“I, I!” Yun Shayi suddenly lowered her head again, the heat fading from her face, feeling somewhat lost and disappointed.
“Mm.” Just when Yun Shayi thought Luo Tangtang wouldn’t speak again, she heard that person say softly, her voice a little hoarse but very gentle.
Yun Shayi, after all, still had a worldly heart and a child’s disposition; everything she saw was new and fascinating.
Luo Tangtang followed with a blank expression, watching Yun Shayi who, in no time at all, had a handful of things. She felt a bit helpless.
Her gaze swept past a certain place and paused slightly—Pavilion of Myriad Treasures.
“Let’s go take a look there,” Luo Tangtang said, pulling Yun Shayi and pointing to a shop ahead.
“My… Myr!” Yun Shayi squinted, looking at the vermilion plaque above.
“Pavilion of Myriad Treasures,” Luo Tangtang said blandly, glancing at Yun Shayi.
“Ahem.” Yun Shayi’s face turned red again.
She also didn’t know who wrote the characters, but the calligraphy was indeed elegant and flowing.
The Pavilion of Myriad Treasures was like a general store, covering a large area, and the goods inside were strange and varied, with everything one could imagine.
As soon as they stepped inside, the sweet aroma of sugar-roasted chestnuts wafted over. The outermost section was an area selling snacks and treats.
Yun Shayi’s eyes lit up. She casually averted her gaze and secretly swallowed.
Luo Tangtang saw this. She walked straight to a counter and bought some pastries and preserved fruits.
“Luo Yi, you still eat these common things?” Yun Shayi said, her tone a little unconvincing.
“Mm,” Luo Tangtang said. “They’re for Luo Er.”
“Oh, I see,” Yun Shayi said, her eyes flickering.
The next moment, Luo Tangtang tossed a storage ring into Yun Shayi’s hand, accompanied by her light voice, “If you want to eat, just say so. It’s not like I’ll judge you.”
Luo Tangtang led Yun Shayi around inside for a while.
Yun Shayi ran off to a nearby bookstore, while Luo Tangtang’s gaze fell on the plants displayed before her.
“Fellow Daoist, what can I help you with?” A portly, prosperous-looking middle-aged man holding a folding fan slowly walked out.
“Our shop is a century-old establishment, quality guaranteed, honest with young and old alike,” the man said with a smile, fanning himself.
Luo Tangtang stared intently, not looking at the man, a complex emotion flickering across her face. After a long moment, she slowly asked, “Do you have an immortal plant that can defy heaven, change fate, and is not subject to any control?”
“Huh?” The man’s tone dropped, then rose sharply at the end, his face showing an “Are you crazy?” expression.
Luo Tangtang frowned, somewhat self-mockingly. What am I thinking?
“Ahem.” After all, he did business in the Pavilion of Myriad Treasures. The man had seen all sorts of strange people from all corners of the world and was used to such things, quickly regaining his composure.
His expression turned solemn, and he beckoned Luo Tangtang over with a serious look, lowering his voice. “Such an immortal plant, I’m afraid, can only be found in a heaven beyond heavens.”
“Then where is this heaven beyond heavens?” Luo Tangtang asked, her brow furrowed.
“Ah, that heaven beyond heavens.” The middle-aged man closed his fan and pointed to the sky. “It’s in the realm of the illusory and ethereal.”
Right, he’s teasing me!
Luo Tangtang slowly lowered her eyes.
“Ahem.” The middle-aged man rubbed his hands awkwardly.
“Just trying to lighten the mood a bit, don’t mind it too much.”
“It’s fine.” Luo Tangtang shook her head.
She hadn’t held much hope anyway.
“Don’t be so dejected now, Miss. Wait a moment.” He picked up his fan and gently tapped the black gauze cap on his head, then turned and walked inside, seemingly to find something.
After a short while, the middle-aged man came out covered in dust, looking rather disheveled. He took out a book with yellowed pages. It looked very old and tattered, even showing signs of mold.
The middle-aged man also seemed a bit disgusted by it. He placed the book on the counter, cast several dust-cleansing spells on himself, and then said to Luo Tangtang, “These are some notes on plant cultivation and planting left by my ancestor. There should be records inside.”
Luo Tangtang’s fingertips touched the page, and a flash of inspiration suddenly crossed her mind. “Price.”
Luo Tangtang looked at the middle-aged man.
The man smiled and held up five fingers. “Five hundred high-grade spirit stones.”
“What?!” Yun Shayi, who had appeared from who-knows-where, widened her eyes. “Five hundred high-grade spirit stones? Are you robbing us?”
“…Er, this is my ancestor’s work!” the man tried to explain.
“Even so, it’s not worth five hundred high-grade spirit stones,” Yun Shayi interrupted.
Since coming to the Supreme Immortal Sect, she naturally knew the value of spirit stones, especially high-grade spirit stones which had the highest purity.
“You… this is outrageous!” Yun Shayi said indignantly.
“How can you say that, young lady? Knowledge is priceless,” the middle-aged man quickly said.
Yun Shayi immediately widened her eyes at him. “Business is about integrity!”
“How am I not being honest?” The man became flustered, his face covered in nervous sweat.
People nearby who heard the commotion frequently glanced in their direction.
“How about this,” Luo Tangtang spoke. “Still five hundred high-grade spirit stones, but you have to add some things.”
Her gaze swept towards the inside of the shop.
“What do you want?” The shopkeeper suddenly had a bad feeling and became wary.
“Nothing much, just some seeds,” Luo Tangtang said, her eyes deep.
“Luo Yi, why did you want those seeds?” Yun Shayi asked curiously as she followed Luo Tangtang out the door, recalling the shopkeeper’s unpleasant expression.
Luo Tangtang held a small pouch in her hand; inside were the seeds she had gotten from the shopkeeper.
“It’s nothing.”
She had proposed to pick the seeds herself, but the shopkeeper had stipulated that she couldn’t inspect the parent plants.
Luo Tangtang smiled. Today counted as putting things into practice, she thought. Her memory was very good.
