Running Off With The Sect Senior Sister Chapter 43

Hunted

“What are you thinking about, Junior Sister?” Yun Shayi asked, holding the reins tightly, her eyes fixed on the road ahead.
Luo Tangtang stopped swinging her crossed legs, which she had propped up high. She knows I’m thinking about something without even looking at me?
“Nothing much. I was just wondering where we’re going now.”
Yun Shayi slowly turned her head, her eyes deep. “The Demon Realm. To investigate this matter thoroughly.”
“I thought Senior Sister would go back to the sect to clear her name,” Luo Tangtang said, stunned for a moment, then slowly started swinging her crossed legs again.
A flicker of reminiscence quickly crossed Yun Shayi’s eyes, causing the upward curve of her lips to vanish instantly. She said in a low voice, “If I go back just like this, I’ll probably be locked up by the sect. Whether I can prove my innocence then won’t be up to me.”
The sound of hooves suddenly stopped. Luo Tangtang slightly raised her head and followed Yun Shayi’s gaze to find several people had abruptly appeared ahead.
“We have urgent matters to attend to. May I ask if you could let us pass?” Yun Shayi looked up, took a step forward, and quietly observed the people opposite them.
There were dozens of them, each with a cultivation around the Nascent Soul stage. The weakest among them were at the Core Formation stage, and there were a few whose cultivation levels Luo Tangtang couldn’t discern. Perhaps still wary of the Supreme Immortal Sect, their faces were all hidden behind black and gold masks, their exposed eyes glinting with sinister killing intent.
“Looks like that’s a no,” Luo Tangtang said, vaulting off the horse’s back. Her expression turned incredibly solemn.
System, do you have a teleportation array? Luo Tangtang asked.
“Hmm?” Yun Shayi suddenly turned to look at Luo Tangtang, a surprised expression on her face.
“Ah? What are you looking at me for?” Luo Tangtang gestured with her chin towards the masked individuals. Look at them.
System, System! Luo Tangtang panicked inwardly. Don’t tell me it’s going to fail me at a time like this.
A thoughtful look slowly emerged in Yun Shayi’s eyes. She turned her head to look at the black-clothed men before them, seemingly lost in thought.
The leader appeared to be a man, dressed in white robes embroidered with green bamboo at the hem. He said lightly, “Demon Realm spies. Everyone has the right to eliminate them.”
Yun Shayi immediately looked up at the man.
“Have you misunderstood something? We are not spies from the Demon Realm,” Luo Tangtang explained. With just the two of them against dozens, it would be difficult to deal with them. They could only try to stall for time.
“You haven’t seen us with people from the Demon Realm, have you? Have we committed heinous crimes, massacred cities, or engaged in arson, murder, and pillaging? None of that, right!”
“So, how can you say we are villains connected to the Demon Realm?” Luo Tangtang said.
“Seductress, silver-tongued. Why waste more words?” the man in the middle said again.
“Damn it!” Luo Tangtang couldn’t help but curse. Her brow twitched. These people are insane! Calling me a seductress.
“I’ve been talking for ages, and it seems you have no evidence. You’re just trying to force a confession, aren’t you? Well, we don’t admit to anything!”
“Whether you admit it or not isn’t up to you. Those crystal coffins have appeared all over the cultivation world.” The man in white suddenly became serious as he spoke, his voice even carrying a faint killing intent.
“And lying in those crystal coffins is clearly her, Yun Shayi. Moreover, the Demon Lord of the Demon Realm has explicitly stated that Yun Shayi is his person.”
Demon Lord? Yun Mu? Luo Tangtang’s mouth twitched. I’d completely forgotten about his existence. As expected of the wildest man in the original novel. He either stays quiet or makes a shocking appearance. He’s stirring up trouble again.
“Even if the woman in the coffin resembles Senior Sister, what does that prove? Perhaps the Demon Lord of the Demon Realm is doing it deliberately, using Senior Sister as a front while harboring malicious intentions?”
“Ah—!”
It seemed that group of people was unwilling to waste any more words with Luo Tangtang. Several of them directly attacked, and a condensed wave of spiritual energy, like sharp blades, rushed towards her.
Yun Shayi’s eyes narrowed slightly. She pulled Luo Tangtang behind her, and a bone-chilling coldness instantly froze the spiritual energy.
“Seize any chance to run. Don’t worry about me,” Yun Shayi transmitted her voice.
“Senior Sister.” Luo Tangtang’s eyelashes trembled. But before she could react, Yun Shayi’s figure flashed before her eyes, turning into an afterimage.
System, System, answer me! Open the teleportation array! Luo Tangtang felt anxious.
She couldn’t beat Nascent Soul cultivators; going would only cause more trouble.
However, after a short while, she had no time to worry about that, because two people were already standing before her—those two Core Formation stage cultivators.
After all this, I still have to rely on myself!
Luo Tangtang’s heart immediately tensed. Her cat-like eyes were vigilant. A golden light flashed in her hand, and a long whip appeared. Those two probably wanted a quick battle; their attacks were extremely fast and vicious, each strike aimed at Luo Tangtang’s vital points.
Luo Tangtang dodged somewhat miserably, the long whip in her hand whistling sharply through the air. While fighting, Luo Tangtang still managed to spare some attention to check on Yun Shayi’s situation.
Perhaps because not many people knew about Yun Shayi’s mid-journey breakthrough, none of the attackers this time had outrageously high cultivation levels; they were all opponents Yun Shayi could handle. However, fighting against so many alone, Yun Shayi still sustained many wounds, her plain white clothes stained with a lot of fresh blood.
“Hiss.” Luo Tangtang sucked in a sharp breath. Her left shoulder was hit, and a crisp cracking sound reached her ears. Dense beads of sweat instantly appeared on Luo Tangtang’s fair forehead.
No, if this goes on, I’ll be finished sooner or later. Luo Tangtang hardened her heart. Ignoring the sharp pain from her left shoulder, she tightened her grip on the whip and struck at the two.
The two seemed not to have expected Luo Tangtang to react so quickly and were momentarily caught off guard. This time, Luo Tangtang used her full strength. With one lash of the whip, both of them instantly spat out blood.
Good chance! Seeing the new wounds on the two, Luo Tangtang flicked her sleeve, and a cloud of white powder scattered towards them.
“What is this stuff?” The two swayed, then glared at Luo Tangtang, their eyes wide with anger.
Luo Tangtang rubbed her left shoulder and curled her lip. “Oh, nothing much. Just some Bewitching Powder.”
Xu Huanchen had given her a storage ring in the secret realm, which contained a lot of Bewitching Powder. She really hadn’t expected it to be useful here.
“You—!” Before they could finish speaking, the two fell from mid-air. Luo Tangtang followed up without hesitation, striking them twice more to ensure they had no combat ability, then turned to look towards Yun Shayi.
At this moment, Yun Shayi also seemed to be struggling. Her face was filled with a murderous aura. As she raised her hand, the surrounding air seemed to freeze. A cold mist spread, chilling to the bone.
Those few people exchanged a glance. It was unknown if they had planned it beforehand, but their figures moved like ghosts around Yun Shayi. Slowly, an Netherworld Azure Flameflickered to life on their bodies. Space itself seemed to distort, and a powerful pressure suddenly erupted from them.
“Netherworld Azure Flame?” Luo Tangtang’s eyes widened. Her heart suddenly lurched, and a thick sense of unease enveloped her.
Are these the Netherworld Azure Flame we saw in the Far North? How can this be?
Yun Shayi also seemed somewhat surprised. A trickle of fresh blood slowly escaped the corner of her mouth, making her expression even colder, her eyes glinting with a frosty light.
“You all deserve to die!” she said softly.
“Senior Sister!” Luo Tangtang somewhat lost control and wanted to rush out. This was no joke. Back in the Far North, she had witnessed how terrifying these flames were. Senior Sister had no chance of winning at all.
“Don’t come over,” Yun Shayi snapped coldly upon hearing Luo Tangtang, her tone decisive, ordering her to leave.
Almost the instant her voice fell, Yun Shayi moved. The cold energy and the Netherworld Azure Flame collided, and a massive impact exploded outwards. The people nearby were caught by this huge shockwave and scattered.
“No—don’t!” Watching this scene, Luo Tangtang felt her eyes were about to split from horror. Her heart felt like it was squeezed into a ball, then slashed by a sharp blade, dripping with blood.
She didn’t even have time to stop it before Yun Shayi fell from mid-air.
“Se… Senior Sister.” Luo Tangtang’s lips trembled as she scrambled towards Yun Shayi. The other few attackers had also fallen and couldn’t get up.
Yun Shayi was clearly injured more severely than any of them. Some of the Netherworld Azure Flame, as if sentient, all rushed towards her. Her arms and body had many burns, revealing ghastly white bones.
Blood kept flowing endlessly. Unconsciously, Luo Tangtang’s vision blurred.
“The Qilin Jade Nectar? Senior Sister, where did you put it? Is there any left?”
Her voice trembled uncontrollably. The hands holding Yun Shayi felt drained of strength. No matter how tightly she clenched them, she only felt an empty, illusory sensation, as if Yun Shayi would completely disappear if she loosened her grip.
“The little Qilin only gave me one drop.” Yun Shayi smiled faintly. Blood immediately spilled from her mouth, staining her lapels.
“Don’t worry about me. You should go, quickly.”
“Go where? How can I go anywhere with you like this?” Luo Tangtang’s eyes gradually turned bloodshot. Hearing Yun Shayi’s words, blood rushed to her head, and a metallic, sweet taste rose in her throat.
“You’ll be fine. You’ll be fine.” Her voice grew softer but was unusually firm. It was unclear whether she was comforting Yun Shayi or herself. Luo Tangtang’s eyes darkened as she spoke in a hoarse voice.
“I might not be able to accompany you anymore,” Yun Shayi said, gripping Luo Tangtang’s hand.
“Lately, I’ve been having a recurring dream.” She struggled to speak. “In the dream, you took a sword, pierced my chest, and then placed me in a crystal coffin.”
“Se… Senior Sister.” Luo Tangtang was trembling all over, her eyes red and swollen. It was as if she couldn’t hear anything. Watching Yun Shayi’s lips open and close, it seemed like she knew what she was saying, and yet, it also seemed like she didn’t.
Her mind was a chaotic mess.
‘Tangtang!’
The System… Just then, the System suddenly spoke. The world seemed to return to its original state, and her previously muddled mind instantly found clarity.
‘Help me. Save her.’ Luo Tangtang said with vacant eyes, uttering only this one sentence.
There was no questioning, only the desire for Yun Shayi to live.
‘The System does not have the right to arbitrarily tamper with a character’s fate.’
“You can.” Luo Tangtang’s gaze shifted to the already unconscious Yun Shayi’s face. “You can save her.”
Silence spread.
‘Your Authority Card can ignore system rules and achieve a fate-defying change once. But you only have one chance. Do you want to use it?’ After a long pause, the System spoke.
‘Tangtang, after completing this world, you’ll be free. You won’t have to live like a walking corpse anymore.’
Before Luo Tangtang could speak, the System hurriedly added.
“Yes, but this Authority Card… I was originally thinking that if everything went terribly wrong, I would use it to start over, to meet Senior Sister again from the beginning.”
“As myself, not as someone else.”
Luo Tangtang smiled, and tears instantly streamed down her face.
“Using the Authority Card, I could know everything, get a chance to start over.”
“I could know where Senior Sister was born, where she grew up, understand everything about her, and be with her.”
“If Senior Sister dies, this world will collapse, and I’ll never see her again. Whether I’m a walking corpse or something else won’t matter anymore, right?”
Luo Tangtang said softly, “The Authority Card… use it!”
