“You came just in time,” the Evil Envoy said, thinking Yun Lingyue was someone Wu Bei knew. Propping herself up with her elbows, she directed with difficulty, “”Quick, take her and go, go! Don’t mind us!””
“”Are you crazy? I came here to find you, and you’re telling me not to mind you.”” Yun Lingyue was speechless. She raised her sword, pointing it at the tip of the Benevolent Envoy’s nose. “”Speak, where is Wu Bei?””
The Benevolent Envoy replied, “”How would I know where she is? Can’t you figure out the situation? Look back!””
“”I know exactly what I’m doing, demon cultivator. You don’t need to talk so much. Quickly tell me where Wu Bei is!””
“”Wait a…””
“”Fellow Daoist,”” Ji Peilan was about to interject, but before she could finish, she was interrupted by Wu Ju, who had been sitting motionless. “”How about you put down the person you’re carrying? She’s fainted now, and being upside down like that probably isn’t good.””
Yun Lingyue thought about it and realized it made sense. She placed Yue Jin against a pillar at the edge of the hall. The Benevolent Envoy wanted to go over, but was firmly blocked by the long sword.
“”Don’t move. You won’t leave today unless you tell me Wu Bei’s whereabouts.””
“”Quiet everyone, listen to me…””
“”Benevolent Envoy, take her and go! I’ll clear the path for you!””
Ji Peilan tried to speak again, but was interrupted by the Evil Envoy on the ground. Her Soul-Guarding Bell had been thrown far away, and she couldn’t retrieve it. She had no choice but to conjure a mirror from her palm.
Seeing this, Ji Peilan raised her hand and swept it, knocking the mirror to the ground. But it didn’t shatter; instead, it flew into the air. Light flashed in the mirror, covering the Benevolent Envoy and cloaking her in a thick layer of shimmering light, capable of blocking most spiritual energy.
Like a shield.
The Benevolent Envoy struggled free from the long sword in front of her, and rushed towards Yue Jin.
Yue Jin felt extremely uncomfortable. She kept feeling nauseous from the noise around her. She slowly woke up. What came into her sight were the worried expressions of the Benevolent Envoy and Yun Lingyue.
And behind the two of them, the vicious expression of that woman.
That woman, the one who knocked her out with a single palm strike. Ji Peilan.
Ji Peilan held two fingers together, placed them in front of her, and lightly tapped twice.
Yue Jin widened her eyes and abruptly pushed away the Benevolent Envoy who was blocking her. A cold light flashed, piercing her lower abdomen.
Yun Lingyue thought the Benevolent Envoy was going to harm Yue Jin and was about to stop her, but then she saw Yue Jin herself wake up and push the Benevolent Envoy away. However, her face was full of unconcealed pain.
“”What’s wrong, Yue Qingshu, are you hurt?”” Yun Lingyue was very nervous. She saw the floor beneath Yue Jin soaked with blood, and quickly used healing magic, slightly alleviating her pain. As she healed her, she cursed angrily, “”Demon cultivator! How dare you hurt her? Do you want to die?!””
Yue Jin shook her head, indicating that wasn’t right. She guided her to look at the woman in the center.
Ji Peilan stood there with a calm expression; she had been ignored for a long time and finally found her moment to speak, saying: “”Fellow Daoist Yun, you might not know this, but this person is a demon cultivator. Speaking of which, your Chongxiang Sword Sect harbors demon path members. We haven’t settled that score with you yet.””
In this life, Yun Lingyue couldn’t stand hearing others speak ill of the Chongxiang Sword Sect . Now this Ji Peilan had also injured her Senior Sister’s partner, and before she even figured out how to explain things, this person dared to slander her sect.
“”Elder Ji, is it?”” She raised an eyebrow, sizing her up. “”What evidence do you have to say that our Chongxiang Sword Sect harbors demon cultivators? Don’t tell me it’s based on some messy cultivation tabloids rumors.””
“”Isn’t this person from your Chongxiang Sword Sect ? That’s enough, what more evidence do you need?”” Ji Peilan flicked her sleeve and looked at Yue Jin.
“”She’s not a demon cultivator. She doesn’t have any cultivation at all. Are you out of your mind?”” Yun Lingyue didn’t back down, immediately lashing out.
“”Doesn’t have any cultivation at all, what does that mean?”” The Benevolent Envoy was about to step forward but was grabbed by the hand and pulled back by Wu Ju.
“”Fellow Daoist Yun, clean up your language.””
“”This isn’t clean? It’s already good that I haven’t dug up your ancestors for eighteen generations and cursed them one by one!”” Yun Lingyue stood up, gripping her sword, wishing she could stab several holes in her.
“”Fellow Daoist Yun,”” Ye Wenzhen, who had been observing and survived the ordeal, finally spoke. She was very grateful for Yun Lingyue’s rescue, and her tone softened. “”Don’t be anxious yet. There is evidence. When Ji Peilan caught her, she was searching everywhere in Yaoguang Pavilion and had stolen that knife again.””
“”I didn’t…””
Yue Jin’s voice was low. She was badly injured and could barely speak.
“”I didn’t steal…””
“”Did you hear that? She said she didn’t steal it,”” Yun Lingyue poured out a hemostatic pill from her spatial bag and fed it to her. “”Do you need me to repeat it for you?””
“”Hmph, more talk is useless. The Chongxiang Sword Sect is colluding with demon cultivators from top to bottom. What is there to say to her?””
Ji Peilan opened her umbrella, causing sand and stones to fly on the ground. The Benevolent Envoy drew her bow and shot at her; she dodged to the side, and the arrow hit a disciple behind her. The person was shot in the chest, falling to the ground howling.
The Evil Envoy seized the opportunity to climb up from the ground and shook her Soul-Guarding Bell. The Soul-Guarding Bell attacked indiscriminately, causing everyone present to lose their bearings. Yun Lingyue’s sword flew off course, and she was furious. “”Demon cultivator, stop causing trouble!””
A strong wind swept through. Ye Wenzhen shouted for them to stop, but Ji Peilan seemed to have gone berserk, opposing everyone present, determined to take Yue Jin’s life.
“”Jin’er, come here.”” Wu Ju sat cross-legged, calling out to Yue Jin, telling her to hide behind her. Logically, she shouldn’t interfere, shouldn’t disrupt the destiny… But she also didn’t want to see Yue Jin die.
“”Where is Wu Bei?”” Yue Jin asked softly.
“”Haven’t figured it out yet, but the outlook is grim.””
“”Is your fortune-telling reliable?””
“”You ask that every time,”” Wu Ju smiled. “”I truly cannot help you. This is what heaven’s will dictates.””
“”It’s alright, I can handle anything,”” she said. She reached into her robe, confirmed her jade token was still there, and gripped it tightly. “”I still haven’t found A’Ling, I can’t die.””
“”Did you tell the Benevolent Envoy and Evil Envoy not to talk nonsense? Does anyone here know I’m Yue Jin now?””
“”They won’t say anything carelessly. They are very dedicated when it comes to you.””
“”That’s good. Then I’ll begin.””
Yue Jin tremblingly stood up, walked two steps towards the center of the fight, and took a deep breath. “”Stop everyone!””
Nobody paid her any mind. She secretly rolled her eyes. She found a disciple, pulled the sword from her waist, and held it horizontally against her neck. “”Put down your magic artifacts!””
“”Your Hon…””
The Benevolent Envoy and Evil Envoy wanted to shout but didn’t dare. The two of them were the most obedient, standing still voluntarily, their magic artifacts hanging down.
Ji Peilan narrowed her eyes. “”Hm?””
“”You put it down quickly too,”” Yun Lingyue was terrified. She really didn’t want Yue Jin to get another wound. “”If something happens to you, how am I supposed to explain it when I go back?””
“”If nobody listens to me, I won’t put it down,”” Yue Jin said. She suppressed it, forcing out a few tears. “”If I’m going to be misunderstood as a demon cultivator my whole life, I’d rather die!””
“”Oh? A misunderstanding?”” Ji Peilan raised her voice. She needed to explain things clearly to make her actions justified. “”A few days ago, in Yaoguang Pavilion, you were caught red-handed in broad daylight, holding the weapon hidden in my residence.””
“”Today, you changed your appearance and figure, probing for information everywhere in our sect, and once again got hold of this knife. How do you explain this?””
This was indeed difficult to explain.
But Yue Jin didn’t need to explain.
Tears streamed down her face, falling like a broken string of pearls. She cried piteously, occasionally sobbing. “”Right! If you want to think that, then think it. Anyway, no matter what I say, you won’t believe me, so I might as well die!””
“”Don’t!”” The Evil Envoy stomped her foot, extremely anxious. “”Even if she stole the knife, what does that prove, you old fossil? She doesn’t have any cultivation at all! Could she possibly hold a knife and chop people? She can’t even hold that sword steady!””
“”You also know she doesn’t have cultivation?”” The Benevolent Envoy was surprised.
The Evil Envoy made a “tsk” sound, elbowed her, and signaled her to add more quickly.
The Benevolent Envoy opened her mouth. “”That’s right, and, and didn’t that sect leader just say that the Huang Yi Valley was also done by demon cultivators? With how she is, could she possibly wipe out the Huang Yi Valley? She couldn’t even kill a chicken.””
“”Hmph, hmph,”” Ji Peilan scoffed twice. “”If it wasn’t her doing, then it was yours. Anyway, you’re all accomplices, all demon cultivators.””
“”Don’t spout nonsense!”” Yun Lingyue couldn’t listen anymore and started cursing again. “Yue Qingshu is our Senior Sister Fu’s Dao companion! She’s known Senior Sister for a long time. What does she have to do with these few demon cultivators?!””
“”Exactly,”” Yue Jin nodded repeatedly. “”I don’t know them at all.””
“”Huh…”” The Evil Envoy immediately looked confused when she heard that, but her words of protest were suppressed by the Benevolent Envoy.
“”Don’t know them? Then why did you come to Yaoguang Pavilion with the two of them?”” Ji Peilan had only heard from her disciples that three people had come up the mountain, including Yue Jin, so she naturally assumed it was the two of them.
“”They were kidnapped, of course,”” Yun Lingyue also naturally assumed. “”These two morally corrupt demon cultivators kidnapped my sect disciples earlier. I came today to demand them back.””
“”Mhm!”” Yue Jin became more confident as she spoke. “”It was just the two of them who kidnapped me and said they wanted to turn me into a cultivation furnace to revitalize the demon sect and rise again!””
Benevolent Envoy: “”Do we really have a custom of making cultivation furnaces…””
“”So, don’t you all stop me!””
Seeing everyone in silence, still trying to figure things out, Yue Jin held the sword more firmly against her neck.
“”I will use death to prove my innocence! Otherwise, living my whole life under the shadow of being a demon cultivator, how could I possibly shamelessly cling to life!””
Everyone rushed forward to persuade her. Even Ye Wenzhen was speechless, muttering, “”Let’s talk things over, let’s talk things over…””
Amidst the argument, Yun Lingyue slapped her head. “”Ah, I remember!””
“”If you don’t produce any evidence to prove my innocence, I’m going to die!”” Yue Jin was putting on a grand show. She appeared to be holding the sword to kill herself, but was actually swinging and chopping haphazardly to prevent others from getting close.
“”I really did remember! Right, you just mentioned the Huang Yi Valley. On my way here, I happened to go to the Huang Yi Valley. I have a witness!””
Yun Lingyue quickly shouted towards outside the hall. “”You can come in now, hurry!””
At the entrance, a small head poked around, with two messy pigtails, wearing simple cloth clothes, looking inside.
“”Big Sister, is the fighting over…””
“”It’s over, it’s over, hurry and come here.”” Yun Lingyue called out to her, pulled her in front of her, and comforted her. “”Don’t be scared, speak.””
Everyone was confused. “”Speak about what?””
“”She is the only survivor I found about ten kilometers away from the Huang Yi Valley,”” Yun Lingyue explained. “”She’s the daughter of the valley’s cook. She said that when the killer was wiping out the sect, her mother put her in a pickled vegetable basket, and she saw the killer’s appearance through the gaps in the basket.””
Yun Lingyue coaxed her. “”Let her identify the killer. If the killer isn’t present, then the matter is resolved, right?””
At this, everyone fell silent. Yue Jin also lowered the sword and waited quietly.
The little girl first looked at Yue Jin for a moment, making her feel a chill, then turned her head and looked around at everyone.
Yun Lingyue gently pointed at Yue Jin and asked, “”Is it her?””
The little girl shook her head.
Everyone let out a breath of relief, just about to call for a ceasefire, when they saw the girl dart behind Yue Jin, and her small finger pointed at Ji Peilan.
“”It’s her.””
