Why Aren’t You Cultivating Immortality? (GL) Chapter 36

Chapter 36

Time always slipped by faster when people were busy. In the blink of an eye, the afternoon passed. The closer it got to deep winter, the earlier the sky darkened. By the time work ended, orange-yellow streetlights were already glowing outside.
Not far from the company gate, a black BMW was parked. A woman leaned against the car door, looking lonely. A cigarette rested between her fingers. The cold wind blew her long hair into disorder and carried away the ash drifting to the ground.
Seeing people and cars come out of the company one after another, Ye Gelan put out the cigarette and threw it into the trash can, then walked to the guard room door.
The young security guard recognized Ye Gelan. He looked toward the building and said, “Secretary Bai and Assistant An should come out soon.”
Ye Gelan turned at the sound and looked at the guard. Her eyes were moist like autumn water. The young security guard had only been a company guard for half a month after leaving the army. It was his first time meeting a woman as beautiful as Ye Gelan. Under her gaze, he bashfully blushed.
Bai Moqing walked out of the building. Seeing Ye Gelan standing at the guard room door, she could not help stopping.
An Huaigu walked beside her. Seeing Bai Moqing stop, she followed Bai Moqing’s gaze and looked toward the gate.
The young guard let Ye Gelan into the company. Ye Gelan was walking toward them. The lights stretched out her shadow. Bai Moqing’s mind went blank for a moment, and she had the illusion that an old friend had been reborn and returned.
The two figures completely overlapped. Ye Gelan looked far too much like Su Xiao.
Bai Moqing remembered the last time she saw Su Xiao. Su Xiao had walked toward her like this to say goodbye.
Under hazy moonlight, Su Xiao held a long sword and told Bai Moqing that she was the daughter of a general of Northern Yan. Yan and Chu had gone to war, and she had to return to her father’s side to resist the Chu army with him…
“She personally came to pick you up. Are you still not going?” Watching Ye Gelan walk over with ease, An Huaigu’s heart could not help stirring. If she had met Ye Gelan a few days earlier, maybe she would have fallen for her.
But now, she liked Little Bai, so she should pursue Little Bai with focus.
An Huaigu’s voice pulled Bai Moqing’s thoughts back. Ye Gelan stopped in front of them. “My car is parked outside. Ride with me.”
“You will not get into another accident, right?” An Huaigu smiled and teased. She raised her hand and placed it on Bai Moqing’s shoulder, then looked at Bai Moqing. “If there is another accident, Little Bai, would you save me first or Miss Ye first?”
It was only a joke, but Ye Gelan saw the testing and expectation in An Huaigu’s eyes. She also rather wanted to know who Bai Moqing would save first.
“Whoever is better-looking gets saved first.” A voice sounded faintly behind An Huaigu. It was very close. An Huaigu turned her head and saw Tang Yue looking at her with a smiling face.
An Huaigu quickly stepped two paces to the side to put distance between herself and Tang Yue. The smile on her face was gone. Her brows rose as she indirectly mocked Tang Yue. “Then Assistant Tang had better be careful. If something happens, no one will save you.”
In truth, Tang Yue had delicate, dignified looks and was pleasant to look at. In the eyes of the public, she was President Xiao’s most capable assistant, presentable and capable.
There were many men in the company who showed goodwill toward Tang Yue, but Tang Yue rejected them all. She did not give them even the slightest chance for ambiguity and strangled all those good feelings in the bud.
An Huaigu knew the reason. Tang Yue, like her, liked women. But Tang Yue was also different from her. Under Tang Yue’s serious appearance hid a dark and abusive heart. An Huaigu suspected Tang Yue had that kind of preference.
“I have always been very careful.” Tang Yue moved closer to An Huaigu. Using her height advantage, she looked down at An Huaigu and said with deeper meaning, “Assistant An should also be careful.” Then she stepped away in high heels, smiling.
Bai Moqing got into An Huaigu’s car. They followed Ye Gelan’s black BMW to the reserved restaurant.
The Chuantang theme restaurant had an antique style. Led by a server, they passed through a winding corridor and reached a pavilion area with mountains, water, towers, and walkways.
Ye Gelan had reserved a cool pavilion private room. The pavilion was octagonal, surrounded by a small trickling stream with mist rising from it.
Farther away was a stage. On it sat a woman in a pink long dress, upright before a qin table, focused as she played.
The pleasant sound of the qin and the flowing water made people feel as if they had traveled back to ancient times.
Delicate dishes were served one by one on fine blue-and-white porcelain plates. Last came a pot of wine.
Ye Gelan personally poured two cups and introduced it. “This is sorghum liquor brewed from this restaurant owner’s ancestral secret recipe. It is called Seven Lives. You must try it.”
The small gold-glazed white porcelain cups were delicate and lovely. The rich wine fragrance entered the nose, making one slightly drunk before even drinking. An Huaigu accepted a cup. “I have come to this restaurant twice. This pot of specially brewed sorghum liquor is even more expensive than Maotai. The price is secondary, though. They only sell seven pots a day, and one pot is hard to get. Miss Ye, how did you reserve it?”
“I am familiar with this restaurant’s owner.” Ye Gelan raised her cup to Bai Moqing and An Huaigu. “Do not be so formal and call me Miss Ye. Just call me Gelan. This cup is to thank you both for saving me.”
Clink. The cups tapped lightly. Ye Gelan tilted her head back and drank in one gulp. The wine entered her throat and flowed into her stomach, producing warmth and the pleasure of meeting someone over wine and needing to get drunk.
Bai Moqing watched Ye Gelan drink. Every frown and smile, even the motion of drinking, was similar to Su Xiao. Bai Moqing brought the cup to her lips, closed her eyes, and slowly finished the wine.
Perhaps she was Su Xiao’s reincarnation.
“It really is good wine.” After drinking, An Huaigu unceremoniously took the wine pot and poured herself another cup.
It was not the first time Ye Gelan had been looked at by Bai Moqing with the gaze of someone seeing an old friend. Taking advantage of the wine, Ye Gelan leaned toward Bai Moqing and looked steadily at her. “Moqing, every time I look at you, I feel very familiar and close. Do you think we knew each other in a past life?”
Knew each other in a past life? An Huaigu put a bite of food into her mouth and turned to Bai Moqing. With Bai Moqing’s personality, she would definitely laugh it off.
Sure enough, Bai Moqing smiled. But what she said afterward shocked An Huaigu. Bai Moqing said, “I have that feeling too.”
She actually played along?
An Huaigu stopped her chopsticks and stared at Bai Moqing in disbelief. Ye Gelan poured Bai Moqing another cup of wine. “Then this cup is to celebrate our reunion.”
Watching Bai Moqing drink cup after cup, her body leaning closer and closer to Ye Gelan, Xiao Xing’s face grew uglier and uglier.
When An Huaigu hooked an arm around Bai Moqing’s shoulder and leaned onto her, Xiao Xing finally could not control herself.
A phone began vibrating. Bai Moqing heard it and reached into her pocket, only to discover it was not her phone ringing, but Sister An’s.
An Huaigu’s phone was on the table. Before An Huaigu answered, Bai Moqing glanced at it and saw the name. She froze slightly. Why was President Xiao calling Sister An?
“Mm, all right. I will go back now.” An Huaigu hung up, stood, and put on her coat while saying, “Something came up at the company. I have to hurry back. Little Bai, are you coming with me, or will you sit a while longer?”
Ye Gelan held her forehead. Seven Lives had a strong aftereffect. People with poor tolerance would collapse after one cup. Even someone with An Huaigu’s tolerance had a drunken flush on her face. Only Bai Moqing looked completely calm.
“I will go with you.” Seeing Ye Gelan seem a little drunk, Bai Moqing reminded her, “Gelan, do not drive when you go back. Take a taxi and be careful on the road.”
Ye Gelan reached out and caught Bai Moqing’s hand. She lifted her head slightly and smiled at her, eyes warm. “Why not send me back?”
She could do that? An Huaigu immediately acted drunk, holding the chair as she said, “Little Bai, you should come to the company with me. If I get drunk halfway, President Xiao will fire me tomorrow.”
“Sister An, I know your tolerance. You only drank a few small cups of white liquor. You will have no problem going to the company alone.”
As for Ye Gelan, Bai Moqing looked at her eyes. They were clear. She was clearly only a little drunk in the body, while her mind was very sober. If she sat here a while longer, she would be fine.
Bai Moqing said goodbye to Ye Gelan and left the restaurant with An Huaigu.
The night wind was a little biting. Bai Moqing hailed a taxi for An Huaigu. After watching An Huaigu get in, she went home.
The little orange cat welcomed her as usual, but Bai Moqing kept feeling something was off.
“Meow, meow. Qingqing, I missed you so much.” The little orange cat guiltily rubbed Bai Moqing’s calf, its fluffy little tail wagging like a little puppy’s.
Bai Moqing looked around the home and finally realized what was wrong. That little flood dragon was gone!
She picked up the little orange cat, supporting its round butt, and asked, “Where is Yun Su?”
Found out so quickly? The little orange cat meowed twice. Its gaze wandered, not daring to look at Bai Moqing.
As expected, something was being hidden from her. Bai Moqing’s face grew colder and colder. She stared at the little orange cat without blinking. The little orange cat pitifully blinked and honestly confessed, “She went to find the person who bullied me.”
“Who bullied you? Wait, she… went to find Sister An?”
The little orange cat nodded and hugged Bai Moqing’s sleeve. “Yun Yun will not do anything to her. She will just throw her around a bit so she will not casually bully people again.”
“When did she bully you?” Bai Moqing was speechless. In the morning, Sister An had only asked a couple more questions. She had not meant to bully the little orange cat at all. Did a cat need to be that sensitive?
“Hmph. I do not care.” The little orange cat turned its head proudly.
Bai Moqing pried open the little orange cat’s claws, placed it on the coffee table, bent, and pinched the back of its neck. “Tell Yun Su to come back.”
“She will come back after throwing her around.”
The little orange cat snorted twice, lay down on the coffee table, and played dead. Looking at it, Bai Moqing knew it was determined to bully Sister An.
Sister An was on the road now. If Yun Su made a move, it would probably be on the stretch between Sister An getting out of the taxi and reaching the office. Bai Moqing released the little orange cat.
The little orange cat opened its eyes. Bai Moqing was gone.
“Why are you here?”
Sensing Bai Moqing’s aura, Xiao Xing, who was busy, lifted her head. Her gaze crossed the computer monitor and landed on Bai Moqing.
Bai Moqing walked to the floor-to-ceiling window and looked downstairs. “I came here to wait for Sister An.”
“You care about her quite a bit.” Xiao Xing lowered her head. Her voice had no rise or fall. “More than you care about me.”
After waiting for a long time without Bai Moqing answering, Xiao Xing lifted her head again. Bai Moqing’s clear side profile was lit by the bright lights. Her eyes were closed. She was using divine sense to search outside.
Dragons were good at hiding. Even flood dragons could hide their aura so others would not notice.
The little orange cat was afraid Bai Moqing would truly get angry. After Bai Moqing left, it quickly called Yun Su back.
Bai Moqing searched twice and still could not find Yun Su. Just as she was about to ask Xiao Xing for help, the little orange cat called once. Bai Moqing let out a breath.
She opened her eyes and turned around. Click. The office lights suddenly all went dark.
“President Xiao…” She had only said two words when weight pressed onto her. Xiao Xing pinned her against the floor-to-ceiling window.
Xiao Xing took out her phone and called An Huaigu. “No need to come over.” Her tone was icy. She hung up, then looked at Bai Moqing with a dark face. “She is not coming over. Do you want to go wait for her at her home?”
Bai Moqing’s cheek pressed against the glass. Go to Sister An’s home and wait for Sister An? Why did that sound so strange…
“President Xiao, did you misunderstand something?”
“Misunderstand?” Xiao Xing expressionlessly listed everything that had happened tonight, one by one. “Drinking, hugging, personally sending her into a taxi, coming to the company to secretly wait for her. Tell me, what did I misunderstand?”
