“There is no need to say more, Snow God. If you want to do something to me, then at this distance, you may as well do it.” Mu Yinfeng stirred her yin energy and let it soak into her heart and sea of consciousness. Her eyes turned strangely cold and dark. Even the charming smile at the corner of her lips was wrapped in a heavy shadow. “But you had better be careful. I may do something unexpected.”
Her hand was twisted behind her by the Snow God. To an outsider, there was no chance for her to fight back in this position. Yet the smile on her lips softened the sense of danger.
“Oh? What do you think I can do to you?” The Snow God leaned close to Mu Yinfeng’s ear. Her breath was warm and fragrant, and her soft lips almost brushed the tip of Mu Yinfeng’s ear. “Yinfeng, I would like to see how you plan to fight back. You should know this. Whether you are Lord Wind or the current Mu Yinfeng, you can only bow beneath my skirts.”
Bow beneath her skirts?
“I hope you will not regret those words, Snow God.” Mu Yinfeng laughed softly and raised a brow. A cold light flashed deep in her eyes, so faint it was almost impossible to notice.
“Regret has never existed in my life.”
As she spoke, the Snow God held her even tighter. With her other hand, she brushed away the loose hair at Mu Yinfeng’s temple, then stared at the corner of her forehead from the side. Her gaze was obsessed and greedy.
Under Mu Yinfeng’s messy hair, a faint raised mark had appeared at her temple. It shone with a pale blue light, shaped like a snowflake.
The Snow God reached out and touched that snowflake, then withdrew her hand. She pinched Mu Yinfeng’s face and forced Mu Yinfeng to look at her.
“Yinfeng, can you look into my eyes and say you truly feel nothing for me? Do you truly think that Senior Sister of yours is more important than me?”
“Then, since matters have reached this point, there is only one answer.” Mu Yinfeng widened her eyes. The corner of her mouth lifted, and her smile was bright and alluring. “Snow God, you are more important.”
As she spoke, she moved her fingers slightly and brushed the back of the Snow God’s hand. The movement was gentle, almost teasing.
The Snow God smiled. Only then did she loosen her grip. Following the motion, she pulled Mu Yinfeng into her arms and slowly stroked the long hair of the person in her embrace. After a while, she bent down to kiss the snowflake mark at Mu Yinfeng’s temple.
But the kiss landed on nothing.
In the blink of an eye, the beauty in her arms scattered like a cloud of black mist.
The Snow God was startled. She stood quickly and swept her gaze across the room, but rows of bookshelves blocked her sight. She could no longer find Mu Yinfeng.
Langhuan Pavilion was only so large. Where could Mu Yinfeng run?
At that moment, her heart skipped. She instinctively wanted to turn around, but a chill touched her neck and stopped her.
A sharp dagger lay across her throat. Under the candlelight, its cold edge gleamed with a sinister light.
“Now, do you regret it, Snow God?” The brighter Mu Yinfeng’s smile became, the colder the darkness in her eyes grew, as if she might tear the person before her to pieces at any moment.
“This is what you wanted me to regret? Do you think a dagger of yours can hurt me?” Huixue did not move. Her voice was calm.
“That is hard to say.” Mu Yinfeng blinked. “Although you call yourself a heavenly god, you should know there is only one true heavenly god.”
“Oh?” The Snow God slowly lifted her eyes. “Then tell me. Which one am I?”
“A Heaven-grade Zi-rank being who rules the Snow Realm. Am I right?” Mu Yinfeng asked softly. “Liufei Sword was famous in the Heavenly Realm, and Liufei is now in Senior Sister’s hand. There is only one possibility. You are that Heaven-grade Zi-rank evil snow demon who calls herself the Snow God.”
As she spoke, her fingers tightened slightly. She was about to drive the dagger into the Snow God’s neck, but wind and snow swept over them. One snowflake struck the dagger from her hand.
The Snow God landed three steps away, holding the dagger she had knocked loose. Her glowing blue eyes were full of amusement.
“Yinfeng, you still cannot beat me as you are now.” The Snow God flashed behind Mu Yinfeng and turned the same dagger toward her, but in the next instant, the girl before her faded into the night, as if she had been nothing more than an illusion.
Was she truly an illusion?
“I am over here.”
A soft laugh came from above her. Mu Yinfeng hovered in midair, yin energy spreading around her in misty layers. Her robes fluttered, and her figure was half hidden, half revealed, mysterious and impossible to read, like a peerless dance performed in the air.
“Riding the wind? I did not expect you could still do this. I thought that after your divine spark shattered, your bond with the wind had been completely severed.” The Snow God leaped up and rose on the flying snow until she faced Mu Yinfeng. In Langhuan Pavilion, pages turned wildly in the storm of wind and snow. The rustling of paper was especially loud in the quiet night.
Seeing this, Mu Yinfeng hurriedly restrained the wind. If Shu Ji came up tomorrow and saw that the two of them had turned Langhuan Pavilion into a ruin, she might be angry enough to behead Mu Yinfeng on the spot.
But the Snow God had no such concerns. Snowflakes swirled around her, and the temperature in the room dropped quickly. Mu Yinfeng felt as if the blood in her body was nearly frozen solid. Her spiritual energy also moved much more slowly than usual.
“Inside my Extreme Cold Domain, your body heat will keep falling, and your spiritual energy will become very slow. Although you can control the wind, your–”
Before the Snow God could finish, dizziness struck her mind. Then she found that her body could not move.
Snowflakes were still flying, but the Snow God’s body froze in midair. Only then did Mu Yinfeng ride the wind slowly back to the floor. She pointed casually, and a blood-red vine shot out, binding the Snow God tightly.
“You could never compare to Senior Sister. Although you call yourself the Snow God, you should know that a self-given title is not real.” Mu Yinfeng smiled. She was about to urge the blood vine to strike the final blow, but at that moment, the Snow God turned her face. Looking at that face so much like Huixue’s, Mu Yinfeng sighed. In the end, her heart softened.
Red light flashed, and the blood vine returned to her wrist. Mu Yinfeng sighed again. “Go.”
The Snow God stood, a little surprised. “You do not want to kill me?”
“Do not expect there to be a next time.”
As Mu Yinfeng spoke, a whirlwind rose around her and returned the scattered books and scrolls to their proper places. Langhuan Pavilion soon looked as it had before.
“Since you can command the wind so freely, why do you not show it in front of others?” the Snow God asked.
“Do I need to show everyone everything I can do?” Mu Yinfeng sighed.
Her Primordial Yin body was something the entire cultivation world coveted. Even inside Hanyou Valley, she was not truly safe. The fact that Juechenzi and his disciple from Yongmu Peak had lured her away had already shattered her belief that Hanyou Valley could protect her. Because of that, she could only hide her strength in front of others, in case someone studied her techniques and found a way to counter them.
This wind-riding method was one of the powers she kept hidden. Wind came without a shadow and left without a trace. It was easier to hide than anything else.
“You showed it to me. Not bad.” The Snow God stood by the window and smiled faintly.
“You had better not think too much. Langhuan Pavilion saved you.” Mu Yinfeng drew Severing Love back into her hand with a pull of palm force. Judging from how one strike of Severing Love had shattered half of Luxue Residence, if she dared use Severing Love’s first form, Questioning Love, in Langhuan Pavilion, Shu Ji would probably kill her right here.
“You have worries in your heart, so you cannot use your full strength. You are always like this.” The Snow God laughed softly. “There are not many things in this world worth your concern. How many of the things you cherish do you think pushed you into the abyss when you were desperate?”
“Snow God, please leave. If you do not go now, I will stop holding back.”
Mu Yinfeng raised Severing Love and pointed it at the Snow God.
“If you need me, I will come again.” The Snow God looked back with a smile. In the next instant, the storm rose again and drowned her figure among the snowflakes.
The next day, the disciples taking part in the Immortal Sects Assembly gathered in Mengyou Square. Lines of carriages stood there in grand rows, a magnificent sight.
Huixue stood at the very front, holding a roster and counting the disciples one by one. Mu Yinfeng was about to go over and greet her when she suddenly saw a figure standing not far from the line. He was looking in Huixue’s direction, and a vicious cold light flashed in his eyes.
How had Chang Zui recovered so quickly?
Mu Yinfeng drew back slightly and hid behind a tree. Staring at Chang Zui, she was shocked to find that the blood vine marks on his body had completely vanished.
Was this the benefit of Abi and Sanqi working together? It seemed this man would still attend the Immortal Sects Assembly according to the original plan. Thinking this, Mu Yinfeng lightly pressed a finger to her lips, then smiled. Her red lips looked as if they had been stained with fresh blood.
“Yinfeng, you are here?” Huixue lowered the roster in her hand, turned toward Mu Yinfeng, and waved.
Mu Yinfeng walked out and stood beside Huixue. At that moment, Chuying jumped out from somewhere and clung to the hem of her robe, trying to climb up. Mu Yinfeng had no choice but to pick it up.
Chang Zui saw Mu Yinfeng come out and had just been about to go over and speak, but when he saw her eyes, cold as frost, he shivered and gave up on the thought.
The one escorting them was Elder Xuanwu, one of the four great elders. Elder Xuanwu was a stern old man who never smiled. He watched them board the carriages, then quickly drove the procession away from Hanyou Valley. He did not say a word the entire time.
Mu Yinfeng wanted to share a carriage with Huixue, but Huixue ignored her request and turned to sit in one of the middle carriages. Mu Yinfeng could only sit in the carriage at the very back. Luckily, Chuying was still with her, meowing as it wriggled around in her arms.
The carriages rumbled along toward Qinglan Mountain, where the Immortal Sects Assembly would be held. Mu Yinfeng had no time to stroke the cat. She looked at the scroll in her hand and focused.
Qinglan Mountain was said to be the place where Lord Wind cultivated, attained the Dao, and ascended. Going there this time should count as revisiting an old place, yet she had not expected a Heaven-grade evil being to be born there.
The evil being that would awaken during this Immortal Sects Assembly could not be underestimated. It was dangerous not because of how high its rank was, but because of its strange ability: infinity. Infinite resurrection, endless cycles, return after return. It was nearly impossible to kill. Only an attack at god level or higher could destroy it completely. The reason Si Yan had been able to trade her life for its death was that her sacrifice had given her a portion of god-level power.
God level?
Mu Yinfeng looked at her hand, then shook her head.
The heavenly prophecy had not arrived, so she did not dare break any more seals in her body. After breaking the third seal, she had clearly felt her spiritual energy leap upward, barely stopping at the edge of a breakthrough. If she risked breaking another seal, she might break through directly.
If she was no longer in the human world, the heavenly prophecy would fall on someone else.
Mu Yinfeng sighed. Huixue had not ascended yet. She could not leave.
Just then, the carriage suddenly shook. Mu Yinfeng hurriedly held Chuying so it would not slip from her arms. A faint sense of unease rose in her heart. Before the carriage steadied, she instinctively released her mental power to search the area.
Within a hundred li, there was nothing unusual.
Was she overthinking it?
Mu Yinfeng no longer had the heart to keep reading the scroll. She simply hugged Chuying close and sat in meditation.
Everything around her quieted. Thick white mist slipped through the carriage curtain and entered the carriage. As if alive, it slowly circled Mu Yinfeng and wrapped around her.
The next second, the horses still moved forward as usual, but the carriage was empty. No trace of anyone remained.
