The Heroine Made a Pact With Senior Sister (GL) Chapter 47

Chapter 47

“What is this?”
The jade bottle rolled to Abi’s feet. Abi bent down, picked it up, and poured out one pill.
At night, the pill had been fully green. But under daylight, a faint blood-red sheen moved across it. It was like a cat’s eye stone, dreamlike in color, yet carrying an unspeakable strangeness.
“This is…” Mu Yinfeng almost said it came from Yimu.
But she suddenly remembered that most people in the world probably feared and disliked Yimu. So she hid where the pill had come from.
“This is an antidote. I got it outside the valley.”
Abi held the pill up to the light and looked at it. Then she put it under her nose and sniffed.
After only one sniff, she threw both the pill and the bottle away as if facing a great enemy. That still did not seem enough, so she jumped back several more steps to put distance between them.
“Outside the valley? Junior Sister Yinfeng, tell me, what medicine shop can make this kind of pill?”
“Is there something wrong with it?” Mu Yinfeng’s heart filled with dread, and she quickly pressed for an answer.
“This is an Affection Thread Seed. Pills like this are extremely rare. Even Chengchen Peak in Hanyou Valley only has a few. One pill alone can be exchanged for more than a thousand top-grade spirit stones. Where did you get so many?”
But from Abi’s reaction, Mu Yinfeng did not feel that this was some great treasure. It felt more like a bomb that might explode at any moment.
“I do not really remember. It was just… a small medicine shop. It was an antidote for the blood vine. A few days ago, Senior Sister was attacked by Yimu, so I… I…”
Mu Yinfeng picked up the bottle that had almost been thrown out of Reed Snow Residence and lightly brushed past the details.
What she said was not completely unreasonable. Abi’s imagination was strong. She would surely fill in the missing steps on her own.
Thinking that, Mu Yinfeng returned to the most important question. “What exactly is wrong with Senior Sister?”
“Senior Sister took an Affection Thread Seed. Once it enters the body, it hides there first. Only after some time does the poison flare. When an Affection Thread Seed takes effect, the symptoms are like taking a warming passion drug. To be honest, this is one of the things we medical cultivators least want to see.”
Abi gave a long sigh. The more she thought about it, the more troublesome this became.
It was not that she had no sense of danger and had failed to think of Affection Thread Seeds. It was that any normal person would never think in that direction.
Using an Affection Thread Seed as poison meant someone had so much money they did not know where to spend it.
“An Affection Thread Seed is the seed of an Affection Thread. Junior Sister Yinfeng, you have heard of Yimu’s blood vine, right? The blood vine is one kind of Affection Thread.”
“Is there an antidote?” Mu Yinfeng twisted her hands tightly together. Her fair skin was pinched red.
She had been too careless. She had actually chosen to trust someone like Yimu, even when she clearly knew that Yimu stood on the enemy’s side.
Abi thought for a while, her expression helpless. “There is, but…”
“But what?”
“But I do not think any of those methods fit this situation. Also, Senior Sister has more than one problem right now.”
As Abi spoke, she took out a silver needle and walked to the bed. Huixue’s unnatural flush had not faded. Instead, it had grown deeper.
Mu Yinfeng felt that if she poked Huixue’s cheek with one finger, blood might gush out.
Abi turned Huixue’s wrist over and forcefully pierced Huixue’s finger with the silver needle. She caught a drop of blood with a handkerchief.
But that drop of blood soon caught fire and burned a round black hole in Abi’s handkerchief.
“Senior Sister comes from the snow woman line. Her blood should be much colder than an ordinary person’s. For one drop of her blood to destroy a handkerchief woven from Tianbing silk, this can only be done by the Jian family of the ancient Yongri Kingdom in the Southern Domain.”
Abi’s expression became even more grave. She realized how serious this was.
The Southern Domain’s Jian family had been wiped out so many years ago. How could it appear again in this world?
Mu Yinfeng held Huixue’s hand. As she pressed the wound made by the needle to stop the bleeding, she looked at Abi.
“We did fight someone from the Jian family, but at that time…”
At that time, nothing had happened. Jian Shu had never come close to Huixue. Also, Jian Shu had clearly held back against Huixue. Mu Yinfeng could see that if Jian Shu could choose whom to kill, the person she was least likely to kill was Huixue.
“…It is impossible. Jian Shu never touched Senior Sister. She had no chance to do anything.”
“Jian Shu? It was her?” Abi seemed to remember something and nodded slightly. “Third fire turning into fourth fire. This fire poison is easy to cure.”
As she spoke, Abi took out several more silver needles. With a casual toss, she sealed several of Huixue’s main acupoints in a few quick movements.
A trace of pain appeared on Huixue’s face. Mu Yinfeng felt as if something had clenched around her heart.
She wanted to turn her face away, but she could not bear to.
“Be gentler,” Mu Yinfeng said. She could not stand it and tugged Abi’s sleeve.
“You cannot bear it?”
Mu Yinfeng met Abi’s teasing gaze and nodded solemnly.
“Senior Sister may be Senior Sister, but she can still feel pain.” Mu Yinfeng held Huixue’s hand and would not let go. Huixue’s hand seemed to have cooled a little, though Mu Yinfeng did not know if that was only because she had gotten used to the heat. “Senior Sister Abi has saved countless people. You should be able to see through people’s hearts, right?”
“I save people, not hearts.”
Green light flashed in Abi’s palm. In the next moment, emerald mist wrapped around her body like countless strands of thin smoke. As her wrist turned, the mist flowed in circles and poured into Huixue’s body.
“Junior Sister Yinfeng, you rarely worry about anyone besides Senior Brother Chang.”
“What does that have to do with anything?”
Mu Yinfeng brushed her hand through the emerald mist. It felt cool to her. Every patch of skin it touched felt comfortable.
This was probably the special gift of Abi’s natural wood-element healing body.
“The person you should care about is Senior Brother Chang. What do other people have to do with you?” Abi sighed. “Actually, even if I did not say it today, I should have told you another day. Your relationship with Senior Brother Chang is no longer simple. The Valley Master wants the two of you together. Did you not know?”
Of course Mu Yinfeng knew.
Among the three disciples under her master, Huixue was a snow woman, not human, so she certainly could not inherit Hanyou Valley. Chang Zui had been raised by Bing Ling’er herself, and Mu Yinfeng had the highest talent of the three. The best plan, of course, was to keep everything within the valley.
“I know. But that is impossible,” Mu Yinfeng said quietly.
If she truly had to marry Chang Zui, she would rather become a widow.
On the night of their wedding, the cold flash of the dagger in Chang Zui’s hand still shone before her eyes. It kept stirring up her hatred for him.
“You want to go against the Valley Master’s wishes? The Valley Master is not an easy person to talk to.”
Abi quickly pulled out the needles. With her other hand, she pressed several points on Huixue’s body. Only then did the flush on Huixue’s face fade a little.
Abi finally let out a long breath. “Junior Sister Yinfeng, help her sit up.”
Mu Yinfeng said nothing. She supported Huixue’s shoulders and let Huixue lean against her.
Huixue had calmed quite a bit. Mu Yinfeng held her tightly and carefully, like a little girl holding a frost flower in her palm. If she did not protect it, the frost flower might vanish, break, and wither.
Tianbing quietly climbed up Mu Yinfeng’s wrist and rubbed her palm as if comforting her. But all of Mu Yinfeng’s attention was on Huixue. She had no time to pay attention to Tianbing.
Abi worked for a long while before she finally withdrew her spiritual energy. She wiped the sweat from her forehead and put away the blood-stained silver needles.
“All right. The fire poison has been cleared. Speaking of that, Junior Sister Yinfeng, what is the bracelet on your wrist for?”
When Mu Yinfeng had helped Huixue sit up, her sleeve slipped down and revealed a section of her pale arm, soft and fair like lotus root.
Although the blood vine had already slid to the joint and hidden itself, there was still a mark on her wrist from where it had pressed into her skin. Of course Abi could not miss that.
“This…”
“The blood vine?”
Abi grabbed Mu Yinfeng’s hand and yanked up her sleeve. A blood-red bracelet was still glowing brightly, dazzling to the eye.
If Mu Yinfeng had not been wearing her usual black robes, but lighter-colored clothes, the red light of the blood vine probably would have shone through the fabric.
Now that Abi had discovered it, Mu Yinfeng felt oddly relieved. She nodded and decided not to deny or avoid it.
The fact that she carried the blood vine would be exposed sooner or later. It was only a matter of time.
But she had not expected Abi to be overjoyed instead of frightened or angry.
“If it is the blood vine, then this is much easier! If I am not wrong, this blood vine was formed from an Affection Thread. The blood vine can control the Affection Thread Seed. Try it now!”
“How do I try?”
Abi looked puzzled. “Just let the blood vine pull out the Affection Thread Seed. A spiritual weapon like the blood vine is at least high-grade. Once it accepts you as master, it will obey your command. Just like this white silk.” She pointed at Tianbing.
Those words were like a beam of light cutting through Mu Yinfeng’s heart.
But it vanished in the next instant, leaving not even a shadow behind.
What Abi had described was the situation after the blood vine accepted someone as master. But Mu Yinfeng had not made the blood vine accept her.
The methods for making this kind of blood vine recognize a master usually required extreme conditions. It was like when she had faced Jian Shu. Although the blood vine had not accepted her as master, it had still obediently let her use it.
That could happen when emotions were pushed to the limit, or when life and death hung in the balance.
She suddenly thought of last night’s five-element domain. In that domain, when she had faced her heart demon, it had indeed been a chance to force the blood vine to recognize her.
But perhaps she had been too afraid and too eager to escape. She had skipped the blood vine entirely and used the memory remnant Lord Lanfeng left behind to awaken Severing Love directly.
Severing Love had broken through the five-element domain. After the domain was broken, Mu Yinfeng had fallen unconscious. She had never had the chance to make the blood vine accept her.
If she could have seen the future and made the blood vine accept her then, perhaps things would have been much better.
It was all her fault.
She should not have let Huixue take an unknown Affection Thread Seed. She also should not have used Severing Love because of the fear in her heart.
If only she could know the future.
But although her clever Linglong eyes could see through other people’s life, death, meetings, and partings, they could not see her own.
“Other than this, is there any other way?” Guilt surged up and quickly took over her whole heart. Mu Yinfeng gripped the front of her robe and asked softly.
Blame was blame, but she knew she could not lose the ability to judge the problem. There was no time now to make the blood vine accept her as master. First, the conditions were not there. Second, Huixue probably could not wait that long.
In general, sealing a sea of consciousness could not last longer than forty-eight hours. If it went beyond that, it could damage the sealed person’s sea of consciousness. At best, their memory might weaken. At worst, they might fall asleep and never wake.
“If there is another way, it should be through control of the sea of consciousness.” Abi saw her difficulty and thought for a moment. “Controlling the sea of consciousness requires strong mental power. Langhuan Pavilion should have scrolls for this kind of art.”
“Then I will go to Langhuan Pavilion now.” Mu Yinfeng chose the second path at once. “Senior Sister Abi, thank you.”
She ran all the way to Langhuan Pavilion in one breath, panting as she knocked on the door.
The door creaked open, revealing a pale, handsome, somewhat sickly face.
“Yinfeng? What are you doing here?”
The woman thought she had seen wrong and rubbed her eyes. Once she confirmed it, her face changed greatly, and she immediately tried to close the door.
“No, no, no. Do not come in. Langhuan Pavilion has nothing you want!”
Mu Yinfeng was afraid the woman would close the door and refuse to come out. In her panic, she shoved her hand straight into the gap.
The door slammed shut, then bounced open. Mu Yinfeng felt as if her whole hand had been crushed. After the sharp pain came numbness, as if the hand no longer belonged to her.
“Mu Yinfeng, are you mad?”
The woman was shocked and had no choice but to open the door again. Mu Yinfeng squeezed inside at once.
Only then did she see that the back of her hand had swollen. The blue-black bruise was especially frightening.
But now was not the time to care about that.
Mu Yinfeng quickly explained why she had come. The woman’s face changed from white to green, then from green to black. It was a wonderful range of colors.
This woman was the master of Langhuan Pavilion, Shu Ji. No one knew her background. As a woman, she possessed a rare Jia Wood spiritual root, and years ago she had also been famous.
On Guiyuan Tower’s cultivator ranking, Shu Ji had stayed at fiftieth place for many years. Her rank had never risen, but it had never fallen either.
The reason Shu Ji treated Mu Yinfeng like a great danger was that when Mu Yinfeng first entered Langhuan Pavilion, the sky had changed for some unknown reason. Heavenly lightning had struck the pavilion roof directly and caused a great fire. More than ten water-root cultivators had to be urgently called over from Yongmu Peak before they suppressed the heavenly fire.
Even so, nearly half of Langhuan Pavilion had been destroyed.
Because of that, everyone in Langhuan Pavilion had passed around one warning: guard against fire, thieves, and Mu Yinfeng.
As soon as they saw Mu Yinfeng’s shadow, they shut the pavilion doors early. They would not give face even if Bing Ling’er came.
Mu Yinfeng had not expected that even after two or three years, Langhuan Pavilion still guarded against her like a thief.
“You say you want an art that can control the sea of consciousness?” After Shu Ji understood why she had come, she thought for a moment. “Such an art exists, but it cannot be learned quickly. If you rush, it will cause serious backlash to your own body.”
Mu Yinfeng could no longer care about that. No matter how hard it was to learn quickly, it was still faster than making the blood vine accept her as master.
She begged Shu Ji to bring out the art. No matter what method she had to use, she had to master it within forty-eight hours.
“Enough, little ancestor. Stop making things hard for this bookkeeper.” Shu Ji coughed several times and kept pushing Mu Yinfeng out. “Never mind that Langhuan Pavilion’s arts cannot be handed over privately. If something happens to you, won’t your master skin me alive? Let me keep my life.”
“Senior Shu Ji, must it really be this way?” Mu Yinfeng looked at Shu Ji. One hand quietly moved toward the jeweled necklace at her neck.
“Do not even think about using your Yin Charm Art on me. Go trouble some other place. Stop troubling Langhuan Pavilion, all right? Langhuan Pavilion is not sturdy. It cannot take another heavenly lightning strike from you.”
Shu Ji, that old fox, was experienced and sharp. She saw through Mu Yinfeng’s thoughts at once and simply refused to raise her head.
She knew that as long as she did not meet Mu Yinfeng’s eyes, the Yin Charm Art had nowhere to take hold.
After Shu Ji saw through her plan, Mu Yinfeng quickly calmed herself. Losing control of herself would be useless.
In truth, she was at a disadvantage when facing people who knew her details. The Linglong Heart Method, which could see through all thoughts, and the Yin Charm Art, which could charm and drive others to serve her, both had to be triggered through eye contact.
If someone closed their eyes while fighting her, or simply avoided looking into her eyes, then no matter how strong the Linglong Heart Method and Yin Charm Art were, they would be useless.
Mu Yinfeng hid her hand behind her back and quietly pinched the clasp of the jeweled necklace. She looked at Shu Ji’s back and said gently, “Senior Shu Ji, Yinfeng has no other choice. If Senior Sister had not been poisoned by an Affection Thread Seed, I would not use such a poor method.”
“An Affection Thread Seed?” Shu Ji was startled by the words. “An Affection Thread Seed? That cannot be. Did you not just say she was poisoned by something that damaged the sea of consciousness?”
“It is actually an Affection Thread Seed. Right now, I can only remove it by controlling Senior Sister’s sea of consciousness. Senior Shu Ji, there are only forty-eight hours left. Could you…”
Mu Yinfeng lowered her voice at just the right time, then dropped her eyes.
Even so, she still secretly watched Shu Ji’s movements from under her thick lashes, which were like butterfly wings. As long as Shu Ji turned and met her eyes, she would immediately snap the jeweled necklace and use the Yin Charm Art.
But Shu Ji still did not fall for it.
She did turn around, but her eyes were closed.
“Yinfeng, controlling the sea of consciousness is not something only one person in all of Hanyou Valley can do. There are cultivators in Hanyou Valley skilled in mental power. You do not need to do everything yourself.”
“No one in Hanyou Valley has stronger mental power than I do,” Mu Yinfeng said softly. “And I do not trust anyone else with Senior Sister.”
Many people coveted her primordial yin body, but how few people coveted Huixue’s snow woman body?
It was only that Huixue’s snow woman line had many people behind it, and it was closely tied to the neighboring Ice Domain. No one dared openly target Huixue, the young mistress of the Snow Domain.
But what people did in secret was much harder to say.
Especially when it came to entering someone’s sea of consciousness. The sea of consciousness was one of a cultivator’s most important places, and also one of the most private. If someone tampered with it, it would be very hard to discover.
“Then you think you…”
Something in Shu Ji’s mind stirred. She walked to Mu Yinfeng’s side, wanting to pat her shoulder. But she seemed to trip over something.
Mu Yinfeng quickly stepped forward and helped Shu Ji up.
After Mu Yinfeng helped her up, Shu Ji’s attitude changed completely. She directly handed Mu Yinfeng a secret manual and said nothing more.
Under the shocked gazes of the surrounding cultivators, Mu Yinfeng accepted the manual, thanked her, and quickly returned to Reed Snow Residence.
Abi looked at the manual in Mu Yinfeng’s hand and nearly dropped her jaw.
“No. Junior Sister Yinfeng, Elder Shu Ji did not make things hard for you? Wait, why is your hand like that?”
“I am fine. Senior Shu Ji did not make things hard for me.”
Mu Yinfeng looked at Huixue and asked softly, “Is Senior Sister still all right?”
Huixue still had her eyes closed. A faint pain showed in her expression. Her face was no longer as frighteningly red as before, but a blush could still be seen under her snowy skin, like a thin layer of rouge. It was charming and beautiful beyond compare.
Now, whenever Mu Yinfeng saw Huixue, her thoughts drifted back to Huixue pinching her face and saying those teasing, heart-tugging words with such a serious and slightly foolish manner.
Mu Yinfeng’s own face instantly turned red, as if she had taken an Affection Thread Seed too.
If Huixue said those words while awake, what would that be like?
But Mu Yinfeng felt that it was impossible. Huixue looked so cold and restrained. How could she ever take the lead?
If anyone said such things, Mu Yinfeng would have to say them first.
Just as Mu Yinfeng’s mind wandered, Abi’s voice sounded.
“She is fine. You sealed her sea of consciousness, and I sealed her acupoints. I can slow the Affection Thread Seed’s effect for ninety-six hours. But Junior Sister Yinfeng, are you really sure you can master an entire art in ninety-six hours?”
Abi was worried.
When cultivating an art, one must never be impatient. If someone practiced in a rush, they could easily suffer qi deviation.
There was no one else here now. Only Huixue, who had been restrained, and Abi, a medical cultivator with almost no fighting strength.
If Mu Yinfeng lost control, who could suppress her?
“If I lose control while cultivating, I accept heavenly punishment,” Mu Yinfeng said softly. She had seen through Abi’s thoughts.
This time, pale light shone above Mu Yinfeng’s head, drawing out an ancient and mysterious pattern.
Dense runes circled over her head, faintly giving off divine might that made people want to submit. A heavenly decree was vast and stern, and could not be disobeyed.
These were word-spirit runes.
