Mu Yinfeng held the pipa, her slender jade-like fingers resting on Changyin’s strings. Her shifting gaze carried endless charm, but at the center of her eyes was cold killing intent, as if she were a vengeful ghost walking out of the abyss. One look was enough to scatter a person’s soul.
“Do you still want to use me as that cultivation vessel you mentioned?” Mu Yinfeng smiled faintly. The pipa strings trembled once, and the black energy around her rippled like water, as if an invisible whirlpool hid within it, ready to swallow anyone careless enough to approach.
Although Mu Yinfeng knew that if she used the pipa Changyin with all her strength, she could kill Jia Rong on the spot and make Juechenzi lose the ability to resist, Changyin probably would not last long afterward. She had only two talents. One was the deep yin energy she had been born with. The other was her extremely powerful mental strength. Right now, mental strength could only serve as GPS or wireless communication. If she used it against Juechenzi, who was also skilled in mental control, she felt she would be complaining that her life was too long.
Juechenzi and Jia Rong were both metal-attribute cultivators. Because their attribute was yin metal, they both chose softer, more hidden attack methods: silent mental control. This was quite troublesome.
Back in Reed Snow Residence, Mu Yinfeng had sensed Jia Rong’s mental attack. But because Jia Rong’s cultivation was shallow, it had not caused much effect on her sea of consciousness. She could feel that Jia Rong’s mental attack was like a needle. It stabbed in invisibly and almost without any special sensation, difficult to shake off like rot clinging to bone. Then it slowly entered the sea of consciousness and took control of the entire sea before the target even realized it. The sea of consciousness was the root that maintained a cultivator’s awareness. If someone controlled the sea of consciousness and the victim could not seize control back in time, that person would become like a puppet, moved however the controller wished.
If used on someone whose mental strength was weaker than Jia Rong’s, that person would probably have fallen under Jia Rong’s control long ago.
Unfortunately, Jia Rong had met Mu Yinfeng.
She was someone whose natural mental strength surpassed his decades of cultivation.
Jia Rong was so frightened by Mu Yinfeng that he nearly sat down on the ground. Although his reactions were slow, he could still tell he had provoked someone he absolutely should not have provoked. The primordial yin inside this person was not something he had any right to covet.
But why had this person been so easy to snatch away at Reed Snow Residence? If Mu Yinfeng had wanted to keep him there forever, it would have been simple.
Could it be… this person wanted to take down Juechenzi as well? Jia Rong glanced at Juechenzi hanging from the tree and looked at Mu Yinfeng in terror. “You, you demon woman, do not… do not touch my master. If you want something, come at me!”
“Come at you? On what basis?” Mu Yinfeng raised one hand. Her eyes were bright and flowing, and a cold smile brushed across her lips. “Do you think there is anything about you right now worth my effort?”
In truth, the fight between Tianbing and Juechenzi just now had been extremely close. Juechenzi had already placed mental pressure on her, and Mu Yinfeng could only control herself with all her strength so her sea of consciousness would not be occupied by him. But his attention had been completely on Mu Yinfeng. He had not guarded against Tianbing, which moved like a snake, so Tianbing found an opening.
But there was only one result: victory or defeat. Now, clearly, she had won. Since victory and defeat had already been decided, what she wanted to do became much simpler.
Kill Jia Rong and Juechenzi, then clean this place up as if nothing had ever happened. Later, she would have to think of a way to explain things to Huixue. She did not want Huixue to know what she had done. Huixue liked things clean and pure. Even when fighting, she had to choose a clean place to fight. But people who died under Mu Yinfeng’s pipa often bled from all seven orifices and looked horribly miserable. Mu Yinfeng was afraid of disgusting Huixue.
Unexpectedly, at that moment, a sudden change occurred. Jia Rong, who had been in front of her, collapsed without warning. Mu Yinfeng reached out to check his wrist. Although there was still warmth left, his pulse had stopped.
Why had he suddenly died? From fright?
Just then, points of white light floated out of Jia Rong’s body and slowly spread into the air, like hundreds of silver balls suspended in the dusk, dreamlike and unreal.
What was this?
Just as Mu Yinfeng was about to investigate further, a needle-like pain suddenly stabbed through her brain. Then it felt as if ten thousand tiny insects were gnawing at her sea of consciousness at the same time. Mu Yinfeng bit her lip hard and forced herself to stay awake. She barely turned back and met Juechenzi’s blood-red eyes.
“What? Do you still want to continue?”
A streak of bloody light flashed. Tianbing gave a mournful cry and drooped weakly over the tree branch. Mu Yinfeng looked up and saw a white-robed youth slowly walking toward her. Anger and greed surged in his blood-colored eyes.
A point of white light wound around Juechenzi’s fingertip. He looked even younger than before. As he approached, the silver balls rushed toward him as if drawn by a magnet, quickly merging into his body.
Mu Yinfeng wanted to stop him, but found that her body could not move at all. She could only watch Juechenzi absorb the silver balls flowing from Jia Rong’s body. She held her breath and looked inward. Only then did she discover that countless tiny white lights had long mixed into her sea of consciousness. These lights had clearly taken deep root. They could not possibly have entered her sea of consciousness in the instant just now. And they were still spreading through her sea of consciousness. She could sense that once these lights covered her sea completely, she would lose control of it entirely.
When? What method had he used?
As Mu Yinfeng panicked and recalled, she fought these white lights with all her strength. Wherever the white lights spread, it felt like needles stabbing into her sea of consciousness, unbearably painful. She could hardly see Juechenzi in front of her clearly.
When the last silver ball merged into Juechenzi’s body, Juechenzi slowly walked toward her and looked down at her from above. His ruby-like, strange eyes were especially clear in the night. He gently waved his hand, and the intense pain vanished at once. If her eyes were not still aching and swollen, Mu Yinfeng would almost have suspected the pain just now had been an illusion.
“It hurt very much, did it not?” Juechenzi pinched Mu Yinfeng’s face and stared tightly into her eyes. By now, the bloody light in his eyes had faded, returning them to their original black. If one did not know his identity, perhaps someone would mistake him for a graceful, handsome youth.
“What do you want?” Mu Yinfeng wiped the blood from her lips, her voice cold.
“I am pitying you.” Juechenzi squeezed her cheek. His fingers were very cold, like a dead person’s, and his skin was so delicate it did not resemble that of an old man his age at all. “You know what will happen now that you have fallen into my hands.”
“You will take out my yin essence. Then…” Mu Yinfeng looked into his eyes, her voice icy. “Then you will kill me.”
She had finally remembered. Jia Rong’s death had been Juechenzi’s doing. Juechenzi’s cultivation method was extremely sinister and strange. One part of it allowed him to take the life force and cultivation of someone he had branded from a distance and use them for himself. Juechenzi had probably broken free of Tianbing by borrowing Jia Rong’s life force and cultivation.
This Juechenzi had actually placed a brand on his own disciple. Mu Yinfeng was shocked.
Juechenzi smiled. “Do not worry. I will not. You are so beautiful. I cannot bear to kill you. However…”
“If you do not want that hand, then do without it.” At that moment, a clear, cold voice sounded, interrupting Juechenzi’s words. Immediately, Mu Yinfeng felt something loosen. With a thud, a hand fell to the ground, its severed edge covered in icy blue frost flowers.
Huixue stood not far away, looking at Juechenzi coldly.
“Ah!” Juechenzi screamed and picked up the hand on the ground, wanting to attach it again. But the severed end was covered in ice shards. How could it possibly reconnect?
A pale blue light flashed, and the scream stopped abruptly. Juechenzi’s mouth was firmly frozen shut by ice and snow. His face turned bright red from holding it in, but he could not open his mouth.
“Noisy.” Huixue turned her wrist, and Tianbing returned to her arm. Then she beckoned to Mu Yinfeng. Her voice seemed to contain a trace more warmth. “Yinfeng, come back with me.”
Mu Yinfeng quickly ran toward Huixue. But halfway there, she suddenly felt something tug at her long robe. Then a sharp stab of pain pierced her mind. She fell to her knees, her face pale as paper.
“Yinfeng!”
Juechenzi finally opened his mouth. With his remaining hand, he clamped Mu Yinfeng’s neck and glared at Huixue.
“If you dare take one more step forward, I will make sure this little junior sister of yours dies without a whole corpse!”
