The Demon Venerable Is Delicate and Charming (GL) Chapter 24

Chapter 24

The sky over No-Return Mountain suddenly sank into darkness. Seeing Yin Wu hang her head, Li Lingjiang did not know what to say for a moment. She quietly waited for several seconds. Looking at the moving crowd not far away, she silently nudged Little Black and said in a low voice, “Go.”
Little Black flew into the air. Understanding what Li Lingjiang meant, it made an inviting motion with the tip of its tail. Little White paused, then still followed.
After Tang Wusuo returned, he was mocked, but the heavy silver in his hand still stirred strange thoughts in many people. There were wyrms, a rare storage pouch, and these people knew a great deal about the Demon Realm. Quite a few wanted to go over and make contact.
Little Black stood on the ground, raising its head to look at the person in front of it. The other party did not dare step forward rashly. They saw the black wyrm slowly fly before them, then open a mouth large enough to swallow two of their heads in one bite.
Everyone: “…”
Those standing close could even see the flesh between Little Black’s teeth and its sharp fangs.
Little White’s body stopped abruptly. It withdrew the front claw it had stretched out, covered its own eyes like that would hide the truth, and silently turned away, unwilling to watch.
Little Black calmly closed its mouth. Its tail swung widely, as if it could knock them unconscious in the next second. Everyone was silent for a few breaths, then all retreated together, no longer daring to step forward.
Yin Wu, who had been paying attention to the movement, had a subtle change in expression. She got up and held Little Black in her arms, interest rising. She walked a few steps toward Ling Xin and said quietly, “You really did not learn even half of Demon Lord’s ways.”
Little Black froze. It turned back blankly. After tasting the meaning of those words, it sadly curled up in Yin Wu’s arms and emptied its gaze.
Yin Wu’s fingertips landed on the dragon from time to time. She had already walked to the edge of the Life-Death River. A few traces of indifference fell into her eyes as she studied the hidden turbulence beneath the dark river water. Her tongue pressed against the inside of her cheek.
“You are not afraid?” Ling Xin’s voice suddenly interrupted Yin Wu’s thoughts.
She turned. Her face had already returned to harmlessness. She nodded. “Right. Does the Life-Death River not like luring people in most at midnight? It is not time yet.”
Ling Xin narrowed his eyes, his tone somewhat interrogating. “I am very curious. How do you know so much about the Demon Realm? Can a little immortal really know that much? I am not one of those ordinary people who know nothing and can be fooled. Answer properly.”
Yin Wu looked completely open. She casually threw Little Black away, thought for a moment, and began taking things out of her storage pouch. “Records in old books. I once worked as a book-guarding child. There were also some storybooks about the Demon Realm.”
She took out many storybooks from her storage pouch, so many that one hand could barely hold them. One book was especially prominent, looking as if it would fall in the next second. A sly light flashed through Yin Wu’s eyes. “It seems one of them is about you, Lord Ling Xin.”
The moment she finished speaking, the storybook dropped to the ground and happened to land in front of Feng Luan. Yin Wu pretended to be surprised. “That is the one.”
Ling Xin looked at the title: Their Days and Nights with Lord Ling Xin. A strong sense of unease rose in his heart. Hesitantly, he asked, “What is it about? And why is it ‘their’?”
“This…” Yin Wu hesitated, carefully choosing her words. “It is probably about many people having stunning romances with you.”
Ling Xin: “…”
Feng Luan picked up the book. He casually flipped through a few pages. After seeing the content clearly, his face instantly reddened, and his rabbit ears immediately covered his face. He shoved the book into Wuzhi’s hands.
Wuzhi looked for several seconds, his eyes widening. From the bottom of his heart, he sincerely sighed, “You worked hard.”
In the next second, the book landed in Qi San’s hands. He froze in place, at a loss, as if holding some terrifying weapon that made people flee at the sound of it.
Ling Xin frowned. “What does it say?”
Qi San was silent for several seconds. He slowly breathed out. His voice was low, numbingly soft, and also extremely serious as he read, “Ling Xin’s clothes were half undone. Looking at the four or five burly men before him, he licked his lips seductively. He crouched down…”
“…”
Ling Xin snatched the book away, flipped through it, and carefully looked at the contents. Before long, his face reddened with anger. Clutching the storybook tight, he squeezed words out through gritted teeth. “What kind of nonsense is all of this?”
Yin Wu steadied for several seconds, then looked back at Li Lingjiang, just in time to meet Li Lingjiang’s puzzled gaze. She turned sideways and opened her mouth carefully. “Do not let Demon Lord know. How could she read such filthy books?”
Then she rummaged out several more books from her storage pouch and spread them before Ling Xin with a swish, smiling boldly. “Actually, there is also a trilogy: the Master arc, the Pleasure House arc, and the Childbirth arc.”
Ling Xin: “…”
Wuzhi nearly laughed himself backward. Holding Feng Luan’s shoulder, he looked at Ling Xin’s iron-blue face, his words somewhat unclear. “Where did Demon Lord find this treasure?”
Yin Wu stuffed the storybooks into Ling Xin’s arms and turned to walk back, muttering, “She did not. I found them myself.”
Little Black, who had been tossed away, rolled several circles on the ground. Little White pinned it with one claw, then kicked it toward Li Lingjiang. Before the black dragon could react, it raised its dizzy head and met Li Lingjiang’s wordless eyes. It staggered back two steps and plopped down on the ground.
A hint of a smile appeared in Li Lingjiang’s eyes. She reached out, lifted Little Black, patted the dust from its body, and hugged it. “Be a little more obedient. Look how badly you frightened them.”
She sensed movement on Yin Wu’s side. Seeing those people talking happily, and seeing the young immortal take out several books and then mysteriously look toward her, she did not know what had been said in a low voice.
For some reason, Li Lingjiang began to feel cold. She pressed the back of her hand to her face and faintly felt a little feverish.
The young immortal’s footsteps were heavy. Very soon, Li Lingjiang sensed that familiar presence beside her, wrapped in Yin Wu’s special warmth. Yin Wu leaned closer, as if thinking about something. Just as Li Lingjiang turned her head, Yin Wu directly hugged her waist. Leaping flame fell into her arms.
Yin Wu’s tone lifted, carrying a little coquettishness. She pressed her face against Li Lingjiang’s waist and abdomen. The unfamiliar touch made Li Lingjiang’s body tighten slightly. Her fingertips curled. She raised her hand and paused in the air for an instant before slowly placing it on Yin Wu. She asked, “What is it?”
“Demon Lord.” Yin Wu raised her head. “I want you to live as long as heaven. I want to stay with you.”
This time, Li Lingjiang did not say anything else. Her eyelids lowered, her eyes trembling. The surrounding current seemed to stop. She heard herself give a soft “Mm.”
Hearing Li Lingjiang’s answer that sounded like compromise, Yin Wu laughed softly. She loosened her arms a little and lightly hooked Li Lingjiang’s waist and abdomen, then generously pulled distance between them. She did not expose Li Lingjiang’s perfunctory answer. She only smiled freely. “I really believed it.”
“What were you talking about just now?” Li Lingjiang did not answer this time. She changed the subject, her gaze falling on the black dragon that had narrowed its eyes in comfort.
Yin Wu answered her. “Lord Ling Xin asked why I knew so much about the Demon Realm, so I told him the reason. There were also some storybooks I casually bought in the Demon Realm.”
“Why have I never seen you read them?”
Yin Wu coughed twice and turned her head away. “You also know that the Demon Realm is rather open about these things. I was afraid of dirtying your eyes.”
Li Lingjiang frowned lightly and looked over in confusion. “But I am also from the demon clan.”
“How can that be the same?” Yin Wu’s tone rose quite a bit. She said with utter seriousness, “Demon Lord, those storybooks are not suitable for you to read. If you want to read, I also have some books on Demon Realm history.”
“But I-” Li Lingjiang met Yin Wu’s serious face exactly and, unexpectedly, did not continue. She waved her hand. “No. I know all of that.”
She lowered her head and murmured to herself. Yin Wu could not hear it. “But I already finished reading all those storybooks.”
The temperature on No-Return Mountain suddenly dropped. Li Lingjiang’s body hid in the dark. Yin Wu held a tense expression as she checked the temperature of Li Lingjiang’s forehead.
Li Lingjiang had developed a fever.
It came fiercely, without any warning at all. At this moment, Li Lingjiang’s waist had bent down quite a bit. Her eyes were hazy and could not focus. Her flushed face breathed out hot air. Yin Wu supported her body so she would not go weak and fall. Listening to her own heavy breathing, she suddenly felt somewhat powerless.
The waves of the Life-Death River began striking, hitting both banks again and again. Wen Si told everyone to gather closer and forbade anyone from approaching it.
Bai Zhi stood near the edge. She saw that Li Lingjiang seemed unwell, and Yin Wu was beside her. Two of the other four protected them, and the remaining two were not well suited to approach.
She pressed her lips together and walked to Wen Si’s side. “I want to go over.”
Wen Si was silent for a few seconds. He looked at the calm Life-Death River, then exchanged a glance with Ling Xin. Thinking of the value of using those people, he finally nodded. “Go.”
Bai Zhi jogged toward Li Lingjiang. The Life-Death River suddenly calmed, sinking into a strange silence in the dark.
Without sensing the difference, she came to Yin Wu’s side and crouched. She looked at Li Lingjiang’s condition. She did not touch her without permission, but instead took a small sachet from her waist and handed it over. Light seemed to shine in Bai Zhi’s eyes. “Here. This is a formula passed down in my family. Let her hold it for a while.”
Yin Wu’s gaze dropped to her. Seeing Bai Zhi look confused that she did not take it, Bai Zhi urged again, “Trust me. I could not possibly harm Fellow Cultivator Li, right?”
Yin Wu had not lit a fire. Instead, she had Little White hold a glowing pearl in its mouth and crouch to the side. The light reflected perfectly in Bai Zhi’s eyes.
After thinking, Yin Wu still accepted it. She tucked the sachet into Li Lingjiang’s collar and said in a low voice, “Thank you.”
Bai Zhi smiled. “What are you thanking me for? It is not something valuable. Being able to help you is best.”
After saying this, she moved closer to them and said softly, “This place is too strange at night. Just now, from far away, I could see that group of ghost shadows. They are walking here bit by bit. I do not know when this river will act up.”
Yin Wu’s attention was on Li Lingjiang. She felt Li Lingjiang’s pulse and silently sent spiritual power into her. She lowered her eyes to look at the person who had seemed fairly spirited before, not expecting there would be such a delayed force.
Li Lingjiang was not asleep. She was still conscious. Her head only felt heavy, and she could not gather strength. Her beast ears trembled. After listening to the movement, she sat up with difficulty. She coughed dully twice and covered her mouth with her sleeve, then swallowed dryly.
“Soon.”
Her voice was light, making it hard to grasp. “Come closer to me. Do not stay alone.”
