Senior Sister Went Mad After My Fake Death Chapter 69

Confidence

Jiang Chunai held Han Xiao tightly as they sank into the depths of the Sea of Calamitous Illusions.
The seawater flooded in, enveloping them.
Is it cold? Although the icy water seeped into her very bones, Jiang Chunai couldn’t feel the cold.
The only chill she felt was the one radiating from Han Xiao’s body.
I can’t let her stay this cold.
By now, Jiang Chunai’s robes, once as ethereal as clouds, were soaked through, clinging to her body and outlining her slender yet stubborn figure.
Gritting her teeth, Jiang Chunai transferred what little spiritual energy she had left into Han Xiao. She continued to hold her without letting go, sharing her body heat in the hope of warming her slightly against the strange waters of the sea.
But the Sea of Calamitous Illusions seemed to possess a magic that devoured all warmth. The spiritual energy Jiang Chunai sent over was like a firefly vanishing into the endless night. The moment it touched Han Xiao’s body, most of it was dissolved by the bone-deep cold. Only a few weak wisps remained, barely managing to circulate through Han Xiao’s meridians, doing little to warm her.
Jiang Chunai’s heart burned with anxiety. Fine beads of sweat formed on her forehead, only to be swept away by the frigid water the moment they appeared, leaving only a faint, salty scent lingering near her nose.
Her arms tightened around Han Xiao. The deep, almost black, blue water swirled around them, as if curious about these two intruders, or perhaps waiting for a chance to further erode their last vestiges of warmth.
Jiang Chunai looked down at Han Xiao’s still paper-white face, her heart aching.
How could Senior Sister Han Xiao ever end up like this?
Her hair was soaked, her body drained of all spiritual energy, fallen into the sea, as fragile as glass, ready to shatter at a touch.
…Even in the Bright Snow Sect, or in Crimson Smelting City, Han Xiao had never looked like this.
Jiang Chunai paused, then lowered her head and pressed her forehead against Han Xiao’s. “Han Xiao, don’t die,” she said softly. “Hold on.”
“I’ll take you to see our daughter…” she murmured, the image of her daughter’s lively eyes appearing before her.
Her eyes and Han Xiao’s dark pupils were exactly the same.
She hadn’t told Tianli how dangerous this mission was before she left. So, her daughter must still be at home, waiting for her return full of hope.
She had to go back. Not only did she have to go back, but she had to bring her other mother back with her. Although no one in Yanqiu mocked her for it, having two mothers was something worth boasting about.
“Let me tell you, Han Xiao, just a little while ago, our daughter asked me where you went,” Jiang Chunai whispered, as if to soothe Han Xiao. “I told her that her other mother would be back soon—”
“So, you have to hold on.”
Speaking underwater was not a wise choice. In order to be heard clearly, Jiang Chunai had to expend a great deal of spiritual energy, and there was no guarantee Han Xiao could even hear her.
But she was willing.
As they sank deeper, the surrounding water pressure grew heavier, squeezing their bodies, but Jiang Chunai seemed oblivious, her mind focused solely on Han Xiao’s condition.
Her spiritual energy was nearly depleted. With every wisp she transferred, her own body grew colder and more numb, but she refused to stop. Even if only a single trace of spiritual energy remained, she would give it all to Han Xiao.
She had fallen into the Sea of Calamitous Illusions with her. They were one.
After an unknown amount of time, a faint light appeared below them. The light carried a mysterious aura, as if it were a hidden sanctuary in the depths of this sea.
“Is that…?” Jiang Chunai muttered.
A sliver of hope ignited in her heart. Holding Han Xiao, she struggled to move toward the light. Every movement took all her strength, the resistance of the water feeling like a mountain on her back, but her gaze never left Han Xiao’s face, and her grip never loosened.
Finally, the light grew closer, and the surrounding water seemed to grow a little gentler. A tired but relieved smile touched Jiang Chunai’s lips. She once again brushed her lips against Han Xiao’s forehead. “Once we’re ashore, you can’t sleep anymore.”
“Lazy Senior Sister, you’ve slept for thousands and thousands of years. You can’t sleep anymore.”
Millennia of chaos was just an excuse to be lazy.
Han Xiao still lay quietly in her arms, but her tightly knitted brows seemed to relax slightly, as if she could feel Jiang Chunai’s efforts even in her deep slumber.
After Chang Xin, Lan Xu, and Zhi Zhi jumped into the sea, their search proved fruitless. They conferred and decided to head to the shore to find them.
Chang Xin said, “Although the Sea of Calamitous Illusions is dangerous, Chunai is exceptionally powerful. And with Han Xiao having fallen into the sea, she likely won’t be too much of a burden. I think we should wait on the shore.”
“But there are so many small islands in this sea. Where should we wait?”
Lan Xu said, “We’ll just have to search them one by one.”
The three of them exchanged a look and agreed to the plan.
And so, they set off at once, heading for the small islands scattered across the Sea of Calamitous Illusions.
They flew swiftly over the surface of the water, their robes dancing in the wind, kicking up strings of crystal-clear droplets.
At each island, they would tacitly split up to carefully inspect every reef crevice and patch of vegetation, leaving no potential hiding place unchecked. At the same time, they used their spiritual energy and tracking arts to sense any lingering traces of Jiang Chunai and Han Xiao.
After confirming an island was empty, they would quickly reconvene and hurry to the next one. They repeated this process over and over. Despite the vastness of the sea and the multitude of islands, they showed no sign of complaint or fatigue, their only thought to find the two of them as quickly as possible.
Their urgent and determined figures darted continuously among the many islands of the sea.
Jiang Chunai finally carried Han Xiao out of the Sea of Calamitous Illusions and onto the shore.
The sea wind howled past, carrying its salty scent and whipping against their bodies, as if celebrating their survival.
They rested by a protruding reef at the water’s edge. The reef, mottled and worn by time and tide, now served as their temporary harbor.
Jiang Chunai gently laid Han Xiao down and channeled all her spiritual energy to heal her.
Han Xiao’s body was now no different from a mortal’s. Jiang Chunai had to be extremely careful even when transferring spiritual energy—otherwise, Han Xiao might not be able to withstand it, and it wasn’t impossible she could die from the shock.
Jiang Chunai knew the risks well. Every wisp of spiritual energy she sent was like walking a tightrope, requiring the utmost caution.
Fine beads of sweat gradually formed on her forehead, trickling down her cheeks and dripping onto the reef, but she was completely unaware of her own fatigue and tension.
The spiritual energy flowed like a gentle stream into Han Xiao’s body, slowly moving along her damaged meridians and repairing the shattered areas.
But even with such care, Han Xiao’s brows were still slightly furrowed, as if she was enduring great pain during the healing process. Seeing this, Jiang Chunai’s heart ached so much her eyes reddened. Her movements became even more gentle and slow, and she kept encouraging her, “Han Xiao, just bear with it a little longer. You’ll be better soon. I won’t let you suffer like this again.”
When Chongji fled, he had drained all of her spiritual energy. Moreover, during the fifteen years he had occupied Han Xiao’s body, he had not taken good care of it.
When we get back, she thought, I’ll definitely have Master punish Chongji properly.
After transferring a certain amount of spiritual energy, Jiang Chunai looked at Han Xiao’s clothes, which were stained with blood and soaked with seawater, and her heart tightened.
Wearing these wet, dirty clothes would only make Han Xiao more uncomfortable and hinder her recovery. Biting her lip, a faint blush unconsciously appearing on her cheeks, she began to gently and carefully remove Han Xiao’s bloodstained garments.
Her fingers trembled slightly, every movement exceedingly careful.
After removing the sullied clothes, Han Xiao’s fair but scarred body was revealed to Jiang Chunai.
A network of shocking wounds crisscrossed her skin, some still weeping blood. The sight made the tears in Jiang Chunai’s eyes finally overflow, falling silently onto the reef beside Han Xiao.
Fortunately, Jiang Chunai had always been thorough in her preparations. This time was no different, and she had brought many useful items with her.
Seeing Han Xiao so weak and bloodied, she hurriedly took out an incredibly soft and fine silk cloth from her storage artifact. The cloth was woven from rare spiritual silk, smooth to the touch and shimmering with a faint glow.
Jiang Chunai carefully dipped it in a bit of spiritual spring water. It was imbued with abundant spiritual energy, and while not as effective as the water from the Pond of Rebirth, it was still greatly beneficial for healing and recovery when consumed.
After wiping Han Xiao’s body clean, Jiang Chunai used another clean cloth, dipped it in some spiritual spring water, and slowly brought it to Han Xiao’s lips, carefully feeding it to her drop by drop.
A little of the water trickled from the corner of Han Xiao’s mouth, and Jiang Chunai quickly wiped it away, afraid of getting her wrapped clothes wet and affecting her comfort.
After feeding her the water, Jiang Chunai’s gaze locked onto Han Xiao’s face, her eyes filled with nervousness and anticipation. Her hands clenched unconsciously as she silently prayed for Han Xiao to react soon.
Finally, under Jiang Chunai’s anxious and concerned watch, Han Xiao’s eyelashes fluttered a few times, as if she was finally struggling back from the endless darkness and pain.
She slowly opened her eyes. At first, they were filled with confusion, not yet fully emerged from their chaotic state. Her brows were knitted tightly, and her hands trembled subconsciously.
Her face was a mask of pain, as if a thousand needles were stirring in her mind, the splitting headache almost unbearable.
“Chun… Chunai?” Han Xiao murmured weakly, her voice like a candle flame in the wind, faint and uncertain, yet filled with the surprise and reliance of seeing a loved one.
Jiang Chunai suppressed the wild joy in her heart, looking at Han Xiao with a tearful smile. She didn’t dare to grip her hand tightly in her happiness, only saying, “You’re finally awake.”
Han Xiao gave a very, very light nod and said softly, “Yes, I’m awake. You’ve worked hard, Chunai… It’s just, I seem to be…”
Before she could finish, a slender finger was placed on her lips. “You don’t have to say I worked hard. I know your current situation.”
Upon waking, Han Xiao’s first instinct would be to check her own body. But now, she was no different from a mortal.
For someone as proud as her, this was undoubtedly a crushing blow.
“Is that so… Then will you…” Han Xiao lowered her long, thick lashes, her tone extremely uncertain. But again, Jiang Chunai didn’t let her finish the sentence. “I won’t. Alright, don’t talk anymore.”
With that, Jiang Chunai leaned in, and following the line of Han Xiao’s still-damp cheek, she gently pecked her lips, which had finally regained a hint of color.
Kissing her quiet was also a viable option.
But it was probably best if no one saw them doing this.
“Ahhhhh!!!” Zhi Zhi’s big eyes blinked rapidly. Seeing the two of them doing… that, she let out a shriek, unsure who to greet first.
She decided it was best to go tell Senior Sister Chang Xin and Sister Lan Xu. And so, she pulled them over to where the two were in the middle of getting all lovey-dovey.
Jiang Chunai, feeling guilty for taking advantage of a patient:…
Han Xiao, newly recovered but possibly scarred for life by the embarrassment:…
Chang Xin coughed awkwardly a few times, looking at the passing clouds in the sky. “We, uh, we searched several islands. We didn’t know you were here. As long as you’re alive, that’s good, hahaha. Let’s go back. We’ll take Han Xiao back with us. Your daughter must be waiting for you.”
Lan Xu remained silent, thinking to herself that the difference between love and not-love was truly obvious. Oh well, they are one and the same, after all. What business is it of mine?
Han Xiao nodded lightly. “Alright, let’s go back.”
Before they left, Chang Xin took out some water from the Pond of Rebirth. This was much more effective than Jiang Chunai’s spiritual spring water, especially for repairing the body of a Nuwa descendant. After drinking it and resting for a short while, she would likely be able to walk soundly.
Han Xiao followed beside Jiang Chunai. She also wanted to see her daughter… that snake egg, which had yet to hatch into a baby snake.
Han Xiao suddenly remembered the time she and Jiang Chunai had discussed what to name their daughter. She turned her head and asked, “Chunai, our daughter, did you name her? What’s her name?”
At that time, the result of their discussion had been simple—the child would not take her surname.
She would be without a surname, just like Han Xiao.
But Jiang Chunai lowered her head, hesitating for a long time without telling her.
Han Xiao’s heart skipped a beat. She suddenly felt that being without spiritual energy was a terrible thing. If she were to argue with Jiang Chunai in the future, what would she do without any leverage?
The two of them walked slowly behind the group. Han Xiao was still stuck on this issue and continued to press Jiang Chunai.
“Chunai, you have to tell me what our child is named.” Han Xiao’s eyes were serious as she grabbed Jiang Chunai’s hand, refusing to let her walk any further.
She had no spiritual energy now. She couldn’t protect herself, let alone her daughter.
She didn’t even have much confidence when speaking to Jiang Chunai. What was she to do?
…But she was overthinking it.
Because some people will bow their heads first.
Jiang Chunai turned her head, raised an eyebrow, and her warm breath ghosted across Han Xiao’s neck. “I was waiting for you to come back and name her. But she insisted that the little civet cat in the corner was cute, so she named herself.”
Han Xiao was stunned for a moment. Before she could react, the person in front of her disappeared.
In her place, a small white-and-red snake was coiled obediently around her wrist.
Just as Han Xiao had once bared her most vulnerable self to her.
“I carried you for so long. Now, it’s your turn to carry me back.”
