Saving the White Moonlight Chapter 39

Chapter 39

The system said this main quest was not easy to trigger, but Yan Zhuguang somehow thought of that drawing.
There had to be some trigger to start a quest. Otherwise, this main quest likely would have opened six years ago. It had only triggered now, so it must be because some specific condition had been met.
Then what was different today compared with before?
The difference was that Miss Su was now by their side, and there was also the strange drawing Miss Su had stuffed into Yan Zhuguang’s hand.
From Senior Sister, she could learn that Miss Su’s grandfather might have some connection to the fallen sect master. But Senior Sister already knew about this clue. Once Miss Su woke up, they could simply ask her directly. There was no need for Yan Zhuguang to “assist”.
Then why had she been able to receive this main quest?
Yan Zhuguang guessed that perhaps it was related to the drawing Miss Su had given her.
She had exchanged a Jade Dew Pill with Su Qian’er for it. This drawing was now fully her property. Even if Su Qian’er wanted it back, she could not take it back.
If this drawing was a key item, then after Yan Zhuguang learned the clue from Senior Sister and fulfilled the trigger condition, the main quest opening would make sense.
Of course, this was only Yan Zhuguang’s baseless guess. It might not be correct.
“I think,” the system said quietly, “Host’s guess is probably right.”
“Hm?” To be honest, Yan Zhuguang had only thought of that drawing earlier, then reasoned backward from that answer. She had no solid proof.
“Host, look at the inventory.”
Earlier, after Yan Zhuguang had used the incomplete drawing to trick Qiu Qiao and the others into revealing their goal, she had casually stuffed the drawing back into the inventory.
She looked at the inventory as told. The drawing’s original name had been “A mysterious drawing.” Now, however, it had become “A key drawing.”
“Looks like the drawing really is related to the former sect master.”
Su Qian’er was still unconscious, and Yun Mixue and Yan Zhuguang could not leave, so they stayed beside her and watched over her.
To avoid disturbing her, the two did not talk.
Earlier, after Yun Mixue had explained the cause and effect to Yan Zhuguang through spiritual sense transmission, she seemed to think of something herself and fell into deep thought.
Yan Zhuguang used this time to communicate with the system.
She looked at Su Qian’er, who was breathing evenly on the reclining chair. “Was there a person named Su Qian’er in the plot?”
The system thought for a moment, then shook its head. “It seems not. This Miss Su is in poor health. By the time the plot begins, perhaps she already…”
“Did your previous hosts ever meet her?”
The system paused. Its voice sounded distant. “Sorry, Host. To avoid old hosts’ strategy processes interfering with new hosts, most of the system memories related to old hosts have been blurred. I do not know whether they met her.”
Yan Zhuguang was not disappointed. If she could not take a shortcut through the system, she would investigate herself. She should not rely too much on the system in the first place.
Yan Zhuguang thought for a moment. Since that mysterious drawing might hold a clue about the former sect master, she might as well find a chance to show it to Senior Sister.
After receiving the drawing, she had never had time to study it properly. She still did not know what it was. Now perhaps she could discuss it with Senior Sister.
Yan Zhuguang was just about to say something to Senior Sister when Miss Su’s aura, as she slept on the reclining chair, suddenly became chaotic. Her breathing also began to quicken.
Yun Mixue and Yan Zhuguang both looked at her. Yan Zhuguang had a feeling that Su Qian’er was about to wake up.
Just as she expected, Su Qian’er’s eyes moved slightly beneath her closed lids. After a soft groan, her lashes trembled, and her eyes opened.
A trace of confusion flashed through Su Qian’er’s eyes, as if she did not know where or when she was. After a while, the confusion in her eyes faded, and a trace of wariness appeared. She hurriedly looked around, only then realizing that she was lying on a reclining chair.
After another while, she finally saw Yun Mixue and Yan Zhuguang watching not far away.
She curled herself up in panic, shrinking into a ball on the reclining chair. Because her movement was too large and too sudden, it pulled at her fragile body. Su Qian’er could not help coughing, and two abnormal patches of red appeared on her pale face.
Seeing her so wary, like a frightened bird, Yun Mixue could not help frowning. It seemed this Miss Su had truly been badly frightened by her fiance’s betrayal.
Yan Zhuguang held Yun Mixue’s hand and patted it. She smiled slightly at her, telling her not to worry.
Then she walked forward softly and stopped one step away from the reclining chair. In a small voice, she said, “Miss Su, do not be afraid. There is no danger now.”
Su Qian’er looked at her warily and did not respond.
Yan Zhuguang continued, “You have already been saved. The people who hurt you have also been caught. They cannot hurt you anymore. It is all right now.”
What answered her was Su Qian’er biting her lower lip and curling up even tighter. She looked as if she wanted to bury herself.
“Miss Su, look at me. Who am I? Do you still recognize me?”
Su Qian’er’s movement of curling tighter paused. Her arms hugged her legs, and her chin rested on her knees without moving. After a while, she raised her head slightly and carefully glanced at Yan Zhuguang.
Yan Zhuguang wore a gentle smile and comforted her. “We met halfway and traveled together for a while. We only separated not long ago. I thought we were already quite familiar. Have you forgotten me so quickly?”
Su Qian’er hesitated. “You… you are…”
Yan Zhuguang’s smile widened a little. “I am Yan Zhuguang. Do you remember?”
Su Qian’er’s gaze scattered for a while, then focused again on Yan Zhuguang. “Miss Yan… You are Miss Yan.”
“It is me.” Yan Zhuguang nodded. She walked to the side of the reclining chair and sat down beside Su Qian’er. Su Qian’er’s body trembled by reflex, but she restrained herself and tried not to be so afraid.
Yan Zhuguang slowly reached out and tested by holding her wrist. Su Qian’er was startled and instinctively wanted to fling her away, but Yan Zhuguang held her with slight force, so she could not shake her off.
She did not try to break free again. She simply let Yan Zhuguang hold her quietly, trying to make herself relax.
Yan Zhuguang immediately released her wrist and gently patted her back. “Do not be afraid. It is already fine. The people who hurt you have been caught, and we have also asked someone to inform your family. You are safe. Do not be afraid.”
“If you do not believe me, ask her.”
Yan Zhuguang gestured for her to look at Yun Mixue.
Yan Zhuguang did not think she was good at comforting people. This kind of thing was more Senior Sister’s strength.
Yun Mixue then walked to Su Qian’er’s side, wanting to speak with her and shift her attention, hoping to help Su Qian’er relax.
Who knew that Yun Mixue, who had always been gentle and made people feel close at first sight, would hit a wall with Miss Su? When Su Qian’er saw Yun Mixue approach, her expression immediately became nervous again. She watched Yun Mixue with caution, seeming somewhat resistant to her.
Yan Zhuguang’s brows furrowed slightly, then quickly loosened. She said gently to Su Qian’er, “Do not be afraid. She is my Senior Sister. She was the one who saved you from Qiu Qiao and the others. If not for her, you would already be dead.”
Su Qian’er’s expression cleared in a daze. She looked at Yun Mixue again with apology in her eyes and said quietly, “Thank… thank you.”
Yun Mixue nodded. Seeing that Su Qian’er seemed very guarded against strangers, she did not try to get closer again.
With Su Qian’er’s current state, it was not a good time to ask about the whereabouts of that cultivator surnamed Su. Yun Mixue decided to wait until Miss Su recovered somewhat, then try asking.
Yan Zhuguang spoke with Su Qian’er for a while, telling her about some light matters they had encountered on the way to Danye City.
As she listened to Yan Zhuguang, Su Qian’er finally relaxed completely and stopped curling up on the reclining chair.
She sat at the edge of the chair with both legs together, her posture well-behaved. Her two hands twisted together, kneading the corner of her clothes. After a while, she raised her head. “Miss… Miss Yan, where is Qiu Qiao?”
“I tossed him at the entrance of the Pill Hall.”
Su Qian’er was a little surprised. “Will they not escape?”
“Do not worry,” Yan Zhuguang said. “Senior Sister’s spiritual sense is covering them. They do not dare escape.”
Su Qian’er let out a breath of relief.
“How do you plan to deal with them, after they treated you that way?”
Seeing that Su Qian’er did not seem so tense anymore, Yan Zhuguang brought up Qiu Qiao and the others.
Although Senior Sister was already a Nascent Soul great expert, keeping her spiritual sense released at all times to stop Qiu Qiao and the others from escaping still consumed effort. Yan Zhuguang did not want Senior Sister to work so hard.
It would be best to deal with those people quickly. As long as Su Qian’er said the word, whether killing or cutting them apart, Yan Zhuguang would be very happy to do it for her.
Su Qian’er looked somewhat lost. “I… I do not know.”
“My heart is very confused right now.”
“It is all right. Do not force yourself.”
Yan Zhuguang looked at her a few times. “However, you absolutely must not soften your heart. That scum Qiu Qiao was clearly your fiance, yet he wanted to harm your life. Someone like that must never be let off lightly.”
A misty light moved in Su Qian’er’s eyes. Her hands clenched, then loosened. She lifted her head and said to Yan Zhuguang, “Miss Yan is right.” She took a deep breath. “Such a person is not worth my soft heart.”
“I even want to make them live worse than death.”
A trace of resolve appeared on Su Qian’er’s face. As if making a great decision, she forced herself to say harsh words. “Yes. I want them to live worse than death.”
Yan Zhuguang smiled with unclear meaning where Su Qian’er could not see. In a bewitching tone, she said, “Yes. Only by making them live worse than death can Miss Su vent the hatred in her heart.”
“Does Miss Su want to punish them personally?”
Su Qian’er said, “Can… can I?”
Yun Mixue heard something strange in Yan Zhuguang’s tone and could not help staring at her twice.
Yan Zhuguang blinked innocently and gave Yun Mixue a flattering smile.
Yun Mixue felt helpless toward this little troublemaker who wanted the world to be more chaotic. Although she was still worried that Su Qian’er resisted her, she could not help saying to her, “Enough, Miss Su. Your vital energy has been badly harmed, and you only just woke up. It is better for you to rest a while longer.”
“Zhuguang, let Miss Su be quiet for a while. Do not disturb her rest.”
“Oh.” Yan Zhuguang obediently agreed. She left Su Qian’er and returned to Yun Mixue’s side.
She turned back and said to Su Qian’er, “Miss Su, rest a little longer. We will go see whether your family has arrived.”
Su Qian’er nodded. “Thank you, Miss Yan.”
Yan Zhuguang and Yun Mixue left side by side, leaving Su Qian’er alone in the back courtyard.
She sat quietly on the reclining chair for a while longer, then leaned back, lay down, and closed her eyes.
“You. Miss Su had finally calmed down. Why make her remember those awful things again?”
“I only feared she would soften her heart and let those bad people go.”
She acted spoiled with Yun Mixue. “All right, Senior Sister. I was wrong.”
Yun Mixue tapped her head. “Why are you apologizing to me?”
“Before Miss Su’s family arrives, do not provoke her again.”
“I know, Senior Sister.”
Yan Zhuguang appeared to answer obediently, but in her heart, she sneered.
“Host, did you notice something?” The system understood Host very well. It knew that everything Host did had a purpose. What she had said to Su Qian’er earlier was definitely not that simple.
“Su Qian’er’s servant protected her with his life. From the moment she woke up until now, did she ask about him once?”
“It seems she did not. Ah.”
“This Su Qian’er has a problem.”
