Saving the White Moonlight Chapter 18

Chapter 18

Yan Zhuguang raised her head warily toward the voice. She saw a woman in blue descending from the sky on a flying sword.
She landed lightly on the snow behind the fire, as if she had no weight at all. She did not leave even the slightest mark in the snow.
The woman formed a hand seal. Her movements were graceful and smooth. With a pretty finishing gesture, she put the flying sword away behind her.
She and Yan Zhuguang looked at each other across the leaping fire. The clothing on her body was just as thin as Yan Zhuguang’s, yet she showed no sign of cold, as if she were not standing in ice and snow but in the bright warmth of spring.
However, the woman’s gaze was extremely cold. It was not the cold Yun Mixue had from cultivating the Dao of ice and snow, but a coldness born from the bottom of the heart.
Other than coldness, there was also a trace of contempt. She did not hide it at all. It stabbed through the fire and landed on Yan Zhuguang.
“I heard you used to be nothing more than a little servant from a small sect?”
Her gaze swept Yan Zhuguang up and down. Yan Zhuguang’s exposed skin was frozen purple, her lips were dry and cracked by the snow wind, and her white clothes had been dirtied by melted snow. All of it made her look very wretched.
The woman’s expression grew even more disdainful.
The system was so angry smoke nearly poured from all seven openings. “What the hell! Host, what kind of look is that? She is only a Foundation Establishment cultivator. What does she have to be proud of?”
Was its host someone she could look at like that?
“Why are you angry? I am only at the third level of Qi Refining. I am not as good as her.”
Yan Zhuguang spoke lightly to the system. On the surface, she looked at the woman in confusion, did not answer, shrank back a little, and moved farther away.
The system: That might be true, but it believed Host would absolutely not need much time to cultivate to Foundation Establishment. Also, the system was certain Host had been a powerful person in her last life. How could a tiny Foundation Establishment cultivator look down on her?
“Host, Senior Sister said she would send someone to take care of you. Since this woman said those words just now, she must be the person Senior Sister sent.”
“Mm.” That was what Yan Zhuguang guessed too.
She only did not know the woman’s identity.
“Hmph. So this is the method you used to make Master soften her heart and bring you back?”
Master?
The two words stirred a rather strong reaction in Yan Zhuguang. She abruptly raised her head and stared at the woman for several more moments.
Seeing her like this, a trace of pride flashed in the woman’s eyes.
She kicked the fire, scattering the firewood. A few pieces even brushed past Yan Zhuguang’s body. Yan Zhuguang could not dodge in time, and several red marks were scraped across her skin.
The woman acted as if she had not seen it and said coldly, “Follow me!”
She turned her back to Yan Zhuguang. “Do not play clever tricks in front of me. Master is kind and can be deceived by you, but I will not fall for your act.”
“You had better obediently follow me back. If you lose your way again and freeze to death here, do not blame me for leaving you to die.” She did not care whether Yan Zhuguang followed and walked ahead first.
Seeing this, Yan Zhuguang bit her cracked lips, picked up a piece of firewood that was not yet fully extinguished, held it in her hand for warmth, and staggered after her.
At this moment, the system was about to explode with anger. “I want to kill her! Is this person sick, Host? How about I issue a side quest, and you get rid of her?”
Because Yan Zhuguang had withdrawn the spiritual energy protecting her body, the snow wind blew against her and numbed her feet.
She felt rather uncomfortable now.
The woman did not care about her pace at all and walked very quickly ahead. Before long, she had already pulled far away. Yan Zhuguang wanted to make herself feel a little better, but she could not reveal a flaw. She was only a servant disciple and could not use deep spells. For now, she could only endure.
Fortunately, the system was chattering in her mind and distracting her.
Yan Zhuguang neither agreed nor disagreed with the side quest the system suggested. In her heart, she cared more about another matter. “She is Yun Mixue’s disciple?”
“How could that be?” The system curled its lip. “Senior Sister felt she could not be a qualified good master, so she never accepted a disciple in her life.”
“Then who is this person who calls her Master?”
“Only a registered disciple,” the system said. “In truth, she is a high-level servant disciple, someone who serves elders or titled disciples. She only has the name of registered disciple to sound nicer.”
“She really knows how to put gold on her own face.”
A registered disciple did not have the right to call someone Master. This woman was only relying on Host not understanding Fenghua Immortal Sect’s rules and trying to fool her.
When the system mentioned registered disciples, Yan Zhuguang understood what was going on.
Her steps became even more unsteady. Her eyes could barely open in the wind and snow. Yan Zhuguang raised her head to glance at the figure that was already so far away it could barely be seen. Then her eyes closed, and she fell forward.
“Host!”
The system was startled.
“I am fine.” Yan Zhuguang adjusted her breathing until it was at its weakest, as if she might stop breathing at any time. But when she spoke with the system in her mind, she was still calm.
So Host was pretending. The system let out a breath of relief.
But its hatred for that registered disciple grew even stronger.
If she had not come to interfere, even in this icy world, Host could still have lived fairly well. But since she came, Host had to torment herself like this for the sake of acting. The system’s heart ached to death.
“Host wants to pretend to faint and make her bring Host back?”
“Mm,” Yan Zhuguang answered lightly. “Did she not look down on me? Then I will insist on disgusting her and make her have no choice but to bring me back.”
“But will she come back?” The system felt this woman probably wished Host would freeze to death here.
“If she were Yun Mixue’s disciple, perhaps she would not come back. But since she is a registered disciple, she must come back.”
If Yan Zhuguang had not mistakenly thought earlier that this woman was Yun Mixue’s disciple, she would probably have “fainted” from the start and would not have suffered through this stretch of road.
“Why?”
“If something happens to me, can she, as the registered disciple responsible for taking care of me, remain unharmed?” A personal disciple had the protection of a master-disciple relationship. In terms of closeness, if such a disciple accidentally cared for Yan Zhuguang, a person who had arrived less than a day ago, until she died, at worst she would be scolded a few times.
But if it was only a registered disciple, then no matter how kind Yun Mixue was, she probably would not tolerate it.
The system felt a little uncomfortable. “With Senior Sister, even if it were her personal disciple, if they failed to care for Host properly, they would be punished severely, right?”
Yan Zhuguang did not speak.
Even if Yun Mixue handled things fairly for her sake, Fenghua Immortal Sect probably would not allow it. A disciple who had not yet entered the sect died, so what? How could that compare to a personal disciple of the sect?
Yan Zhuguang thought that she might have been too naive earlier. Yun Mixue might be good enough, but because she was too good, she could more easily attract messy people to her side. That was because she could not bear to suspect or be harsh toward others.
Thinking about it, if that were not the case, Yun Mixue would not have been poisoned by Frostflight Snow.
Yan Zhuguang knew herself well. For some unknown reason, anyone who approached her, if they had malice in their heart, would have that malice drawn out by her until they could not restrain it and had nowhere to hide.
So when she rarely met Yun Mixue, someone who had treated her well from beginning to end, she could not help sinking into it.
Now that she thought about it, perhaps she had been happy too soon.
The exception was only Yun Mixue herself.
Yan Zhuguang’s current strength was not yet strong enough, and she had handed over trust too early. Even if Yun Mixue would not harm her, the people around Yun Mixue who held bad intentions could still grind her down.
The system sensed Host’s emotions and grew anxious. Host had finally given Senior Sister her trust, and now, because of this troublemaker, it was wavering again?
The system almost wished it could make this person vanish from the world. Did she think Host’s heart was so easy to open?
Before long, an aura slowly approached.
Just as Yan Zhuguang predicted, the blue-clothed woman who had said it did not matter if Yan Zhuguang froze to death, and had already walked far away, had silently returned.
She stood beside Yan Zhuguang without speaking for a while. Seeing that the little girl fallen on the ground did not move, and that her body had even begun to stiffen, the woman frowned. “Hey! Stop playing dead!”
No reaction.
“Hey! You cannot fool me. Get up!”
The blue-clothed woman called several times and received no answer. She then stretched out a foot and kicked Yan Zhuguang a few times. There was still no reaction.
She muttered, “She cannot really be dying, can she?”
Looking at the person on the ground, the blue-clothed woman was very disgusted. She did not want to reach out and touch her, feeling that she was filthy. But if she did nothing and this person truly froze to death, then Ancestor Lianji would punish her.
The blue-clothed woman was very angry. She kicked hard again. “What a troublesome thing.”
She did not notice that on the spot where she kicked Yan Zhuguang, a black light flashed. A wisp of black energy twined around and drilled into her body, then quickly vanished.
“Well done, Host!”
One drop of Thousand-Cut Bone Water was missing from Yan Zhuguang’s inventory. As for where that thing had gone, it was self-evident.
Yan Zhuguang was naturally not a punching bag who let others bully her. She had always repaid the smallest grudge, and if she had a grudge, she repaid it on the spot. The Thousand-Cut Bone Water was wrapped in the poisonous spiritual energy inside her body and silently sent into the blue-clothed woman’s body. As long as Yan Zhuguang wished, she could take her life at any time.
Mm. There was no hurry now. If the woman died here, Yan Zhuguang herself would be dragged into trouble.
Yan Zhuguang was frozen numb. Even after the blue-clothed woman kicked her several times, she did not feel pain. She thought for a while. Since she had been reborn, it seemed her body had never fully recovered.
Yan Zhuguang emptied her thoughts. Then she heard a familiar voice.
“What are you doing?”
This voice was originally gentle as water, but now it carried thick anger, like the sea under wind and rain, ready to raise surging waves at any moment.
The tension in Yan Zhuguang’s heart suddenly loosened. Before losing consciousness, she thought in a daze:
So she could get angry too.
