Saving the White Moonlight Chapter 15

Chapter 15

Yun Mixue spent some time explaining to Yan Zhuguang how she had come to Fenghua Immortal Sect. After hearing it, only confusion remained in the little girl’s eyes.
She murmured, “I do not have to tend the spiritual fields anymore?”
Yun Mixue’s heart softened. “Zhuguang is no longer a servant disciple of Yimiao Sect. You do not need to tend the spiritual fields anymore.”
“Then… then what can I do?”
She pinched the hem of her dress, utterly at a loss.
“You are now in Fenghua Immortal Sect. I have already reported your matter to the sect master and the elders. As long as your spiritual roots are tested, you can officially join Fenghua Immortal Sect and become an immortal sect disciple.”
“Me?” Yan Zhuguang pointed at herself. “But my spiritual roots are bad. When I entered Yimiao Sect, the elder recruiting disciples said my five spiritual roots were the worst kind of spiritual roots.”
“Fenghua Immortal Sect is much stronger than Yimiao Sect. How… how could I be qualified to join Fenghua Immortal Sect?”
She anxiously scratched her head. “Immortal, will I be driven out by the immortal sect? Then where can I go after that?”
Seeing her so anxious, like an ant on a hot pan, Yun Mixue stood and went to her side. She held one of Yan Zhuguang’s hands and wrapped it in her palm to comfort her.
“Zhuguang forgot. You were struck by lightning tribulation, and your spiritual roots have already changed. You are not the same five spiritual roots as before.”
Yan Zhuguang raised her head. Her dark eyes met Yun Mixue’s ice-colored ones.
“Then, Immortal, what spiritual root do I have now?”
Under Yan Zhuguang’s hopeful gaze, Yun Mixue smiled and blinked at her. “You will know when the time comes.”
Yan Zhuguang’s face fell. “Immortal, are you comforting me? I know my spiritual roots are terrible. Even after being struck by lightning, they probably cannot be much better.”
Yun Mixue lightly tapped her head. “How could I lie to you?”
“Your spiritual roots will absolutely not disappoint you.”
Yan Zhuguang pulled open the corners of her mouth and smiled, showing a row of upper teeth. “No matter what they are, as long as they are better than before, I will be very happy.”
“Thank you, Immortal.”
Seeing her bright eyes, Yun Mixue raised a hand and rubbed her head. “I only said a few words. Why are you thanking me again?”
“No matter what, Immortal treats me well. So thanking Immortal cannot be wrong.”
“Since Zhuguang is already a prospective disciple of the immortal sect, do not call me Immortal anymore. Call me Senior Sister.” Yun Mixue had wanted to correct this form of address for a long time, but she feared this little girl would be stubborn and refuse to change.
Sure enough, as soon as Yun Mixue said it, Yan Zhuguang shook her head like a rattle drum. “How can Immortal be called Senior Sister? Immortal is Immortal.”
“Once you enter Fenghua Immortal Sect, you should call me Senior Sister.”
Yan Zhuguang frowned, her face full of struggle and distress. “Is that how it is?”
Yun Mixue nodded.
In truth, Yun Mixue was Fenghua Immortal Sect’s titled eldest senior sister. She was the eldest senior sister only among the titled disciples. Her seniority was many levels higher than the newest batch of Fenghua Immortal Sect disciples.
If Yan Zhuguang entered the sect as part of a new batch of disciples, then by seniority, she would not have the right to call Yun Mixue Senior Sister. Like other immortal sect disciples, she could only address Yun Mixue according to her current Nascent Soul strength as Ancestor Lianji.
But Yan Zhuguang now had a heavenly spiritual root. This spiritual root alone made her different from others. She was also personally brought back to the sect by Yun Mixue. Yun Mixue wanted to recommend her to a Spirit Division elder, which made her even more unlike ordinary disciples.
If Yan Zhuguang became the personal disciple of a Spirit Division elder, then she would have the right to call Yun Mixue Senior Sister.
Yun Mixue did not yet tell Yan Zhuguang her plan, so Yan Zhuguang did not know the twists behind this form of address.
Of course, she was not completely unaware. Afterward, the system would naturally chatter and explain it to her.
For now, Yan Zhuguang struggled for quite a while before finally compromising. “Then… Honored Senior Sister?”
Her compromise had only changed the front part of the address. Yun Mixue did not know whether to laugh or cry.
But she also understood this little girl’s stubbornness and did not plan to force another correction. She only thought that perhaps the two of them would spend a long time together in the future. She could slowly make her change it later.
“Right, Honored Senior Sister,” Yan Zhuguang thought for a moment and asked, “where are Fenghua Immortal Sect’s spiritual fields? How do I get there?”
“Why are you going to the spiritual fields?” Yun Mixue was puzzled. “Fenghua Immortal Sect does not have spiritual fields.”
“No spiritual fields?” Yan Zhuguang opened her mouth wide. “How do people cultivate without spiritual fields? Honored Senior Sister does not need to cultivate?”
“Why does Zhuguang think one cannot cultivate without spiritual fields?” Seeing Yan Zhuguang’s shocked expression, Yun Mixue felt somewhat strange.
“Our steward said tending spiritual fields is cultivation. Not tending spiritual fields is being lazy, and cultivation will stop moving forward.”
“So you tended the spiritual fields so seriously for the sake of cultivation?”
Yan Zhuguang nodded, then shook her head. “Tending spiritual fields was my work, and also my cultivation. Both were very important, so of course I had to be twice as serious.”
Yun Mixue sighed softly. So that was how it was.
Yun Mixue knew why the steward had said that to her, but she would not say the steward had deceived her. She only said, “That steward must not have told you that there are many ways to cultivate. Tending spiritual fields is only one of them. So it is not true that without spiritual fields, one cannot cultivate.”
“Eh?”
“Then, Honored Senior Sister, how do you cultivate?”
“There are too many methods of cultivation. Explaining them will take a long time. In the future, Senior Sister will slowly explain them to you, all right?”
“Oh.”
Thinking of that future, Yan Zhuguang’s eyes filled with longing.
“I feel like I am dreaming right now.” Yan Zhuguang lowered her head and looked at the hand Yun Mixue was holding, then used her other hand to pinch herself. “It feels like after I opened my eyes, everything changed.”
“Honored Senior Sister, do you think I will wake up in a moment?”
She looked at the beautiful room. Her gaze lingered over the fine patterns. “When I open my eyes, I will see that black roof.”
She raised a finger and pointed. “There should be a big hole there. Later, I used old spiritual rice stalks that had not been cleaned properly to plug it.”
Then she looked elsewhere. “The window was not this beautiful. The bed was not this soft. I have never worn such pretty clothes either.”
“Honored Senior Sister.” Yan Zhuguang tilted her head. “Can things I have never seen before appear in dreams too?”
At some point, a trace of age and sorrow had entered Yan Zhuguang’s eyes. No one knew how a little girl in her early teens could have such a gaze.
Yun Mixue opened her mouth and suddenly had no words.
The things Yan Zhuguang spoke of were things Yun Mixue had never experienced.
She did not know what it was like to have a hole broken in the roof. From childhood, the places she lived in had all been cave residences specially refined by artifact refiners. They naturally carried spiritual energy and did not break easily.
Even if they broke, as long as there was enough spiritual power, they could repair themselves.
Yun Mixue could not comfort someone about an experience she had never had.
She could only hold Yan Zhuguang’s cheeks, look into her eyes, and say seriously, “If Zhuguang thinks all of this is a dream, then Senior Sister will tell you that this dream will never wake.”
Yan Zhuguang froze. The age and sorrow in her eyes seemed to turn into mist and scatter. Her face smiled so wide that her eyes nearly disappeared. “That is wonderful. A beautiful dream should last forever and never wake.”
Yun Mixue was about to say something to Yan Zhuguang when she suddenly paused. A trace of surprise appeared in her eyes. Then she lowered her head and said apologetically to Yan Zhuguang, “Senior Sister has an urgent matter to handle. I cannot stay with Zhuguang for now.”
Yan Zhuguang nodded. “Mm. Honored Senior Sister does not need to worry about me. I will stay here properly and not run around. Honored Senior Sister should hurry and go.”
Yun Mixue patted her head. “If Senior Sister is delayed too long, I will ask someone to come take care of you.”
“Zhuguang can take care of herself.”
Yun Mixue did not say more. She patted Yan Zhuguang’s head again, then turned and hurried out.
After Yan Zhuguang watched Yun Mixue leave, she slowly walked over and closed the room door. Then she turned back to the soft bed, fell onto it with a thump, narrowed her eyes, hugged the quilt, and rolled once.
She lay on her stomach on the bed, swinging both legs in the air.
Only after a long while did the system find its voice again.
“Host,” it made a deliberate swallowing sound effect, “you are amazing!”
Its host’s acting could only be described as divine. If the system did not think it knew Host’s background, it would have believed Host was a little servant disciple who knew nothing.
Judging from Senior Sister’s appearance, she probably did not suspect Host.
Of course, with Yun Mixue’s character, she would not casually suspect others anyway.
Still, with Host’s performance, no one else would suspect Host either.
In truth, it was rather strange that a person with five spiritual roots had suddenly become a heavenly spiritual root after being struck by lightning tribulation. Even though there had been past cases where lightning tribulation transformed spiritual roots, this transformation was too complete.
But she was only a little servant disciple who was muddled even about cultivation. Even if people suspected something was wrong with her lightning strike, it was impossible to suspect her personally.
The strangest one should be the heavenly Dao, right? Who knew why the heavenly Dao loved her so much?
Sob. Its host was so powerful. The system was truly moved. This time, the mission to save the white moonlight would definitely be completed. Its promotion was surely stable.
Only, something was a little strange.
The system knew its host wanted to gain Senior Sister’s trust quickly, but was there something off about the way the two of them interacted?
Why did it feel a little too intimate?
After thinking for a while, the system tossed that question to the back of its mind. It did not matter. It did not affect anything. As long as Senior Sister trusted Host, that was enough.
As long as Senior Sister and Host kept a good relationship, the chance of completing future missions would be a little higher. No, much higher.
Its host was truly too good. She had exceeded the mission requirements by far.
The system was so happy it wanted to fly.
Yan Zhuguang ignored the system. She narrowed her eyes and emptied her thoughts.
After a while, she asked, “What did she go do?”
The system knew Yan Zhuguang meant Yun Mixue. “Let me see…”
