Beep! Female Lead Favorability +1
A sharp, strange sound echoed once more in Jiang Xidai’s mind.
Favorability… score?
She mulled over the unfamiliar words in her mind, still not quite used to them.
The voice did not disappear, and based on all the previous signs, not everything it said was false. As long as she killed this insignificant little girl before her, she would return to the previous day after the girl’s death, forever stuck in this loop.
It was truly bizarre.
Jiang Xidai stared intently at the person before her.
Host’s emotional fluctuation detected.
“As I thought,” Jiang Xidai finally spoke in her mind, her tone laced with cold sarcasm. “If I follow your logic and correct this so-called ‘destiny,’ what’s in it for you? And what benefit is there for me?”
The system has detected that the plot has deviated from the characters’ trajectories and can no longer resolve itself, which will cause this world to shatter. For the host’s safety, please cooperate with the system as soon as possible.
The cold voice tried to answer her politely: If the mission is successfully completed, the host will also receive a huge reward. Do you need to understand the original plot of this text now?
Without waiting for Jiang Xidai’s reply, a long stream of memory—or rather, text—was fed directly into her mind…
It rushed in like a tidal wave.
In the romance novel White Lotus, or the world she was currently in, the male lead was named Li Xinghe. He was the orphaned son of an old friend of the Lingshan Sect’s master. He had received many favors from the sect master, such as the “Universe Pouch,” a small cultivation dimension that even a great immortal couldn’t find, which became a very important special advantage for him later on.
When the Lingshan Sect was annihilated, Li Xinghe witnessed the tragedy and narrowly escaped with his life. Afterwards, he joined the Lanyue Pavilion, cultivating and leveling up along the way, bearing the humiliation as he vowed to personally slay his enemy.
The female lead was named Yan Huirou, an orphan girl taken in by the Qingxu Sect. She was born with a rebound buff—another special advantage, of course. She grew stronger when facing the strong and weaker when facing the weak; it was effective no matter how high her opponent’s cultivation was. But once this special constitution was known…
The consequences were obvious.
For Yan Huirou, a long and hopeless life of imprisonment began.
During the four great sects’ siege on the demon lord Jiang Xidai, Yan Huirou was, predictably, used as their final trump card. But due to some accident, they failed to slay the demon lord. The female lead was gravely injured and on the verge of death when, by a twist of fate, she was rescued by the male lead who had come to the battle with the Lanyue Pavilion.
Perhaps moved by her tragic circumstances, the male lead took pity on her and used his magic artifact, the “Universe Pouch,” to secretly bring her back to the Lanyue Pavilion without the pavilion lord’s knowledge, rescuing the female lead from her endless sea of suffering.
That was their first meeting.
Naturally, the young man and woman spent their days and nights together and became a light in each other’s lives. They leveled up together, taking revenge one by one on the old Qingxu Sect Master and others who had harmed the female lead.
During this time, the demon lord, wary of the female lead’s existence, tried to kill her several times. But of course, she never succeeded. Each attempt to kill her was thwarted, and instead, it only served to deepen the feelings between the male and female leads.
After that came the satisfying power-fantasy plot where the male and female leads, with all their advantages, successfully defeated the final villain—the demoness—avenging their hatred and becoming famous throughout the world.
Satisfying?
Sect Master Jiang found it hard to feel satisfied.
Because according to the plot of this boring novel, the final villain seemed to be her.
Having received too much information at once, Jiang Xidai’s sea of consciousness was in turmoil. She subconsciously pressed her thumb to her brow.
A soft but weak inquiry sounded by her ear again, seemingly laced with a hint of worry, “Your… shoulder?”
Jiang Xidai came back to her senses and heard Yan Huirou ask, “Just now, when you saved me, were you injured?”
The girl’s gaze went past her shoulder, looking with great concern at the blood seeping out there—she seemed to have completely forgotten that she herself was the one covered in blood and gaping wounds.
Hearing this, Jiang Xidai raised an eyebrow slightly.
She doesn’t know?
She doesn’t know about her own special constitution.
That makes sense. The hypocrites from the Qingxu Sect must have hidden it from her.
Jiang Xidai certainly wasn’t going to be the nice one to tell her. She would let her remain in the dark. It would prevent the girl from becoming fearless and using it against her.
Yan Huirou had no idea that in that single moment, several schemes had already wound their way through the beautiful woman’s mind.
She had been an orphan since she was young and later fell into the wrong hands. She had thought of ending her life early in the cave prison to escape the endless, sunless torment.
But it seemed the heavens had not been entirely unkind to her, allowing her to meet such a person. She had broken the shackles on her back, led her out of the formation, and was even injured in the process, yet seemed to have no regrets.
Seven-tenths of Yan Huirou’s heart was filled with gratitude, and the remaining three-tenths spilled over into guilt. But her body was weak now; she couldn’t even walk far, let alone fetch some wound medicine for her.
And so, the guilt deepened.
“Are your legs broken?”
After her conversation with the system ended, Jiang Xidai returned to her senses feeling a tightness in her chest. After all, this wretched girl was leaning her entire weight on her. Recalling her earlier thoughts, a flicker of anger arose, and she asked with cold sarcasm.
Yan Huirou’s legs were indeed broken. They had been broken by someone in the cave prison, though she couldn’t remember who. That was why she had walked so unsteadily. Hearing Jiang Xidai’s icy question, she was slightly taken aback, not expecting the woman to be more concerned about her than her own injuries.
Yan Huirou lowered her lashes to hide the glimmer of tears in her eyes. She hummed softly, “I’m fine.”
Beep! Female Lead Favorability +1
Jiang Xidai: “…”
Losing her patience, she shoved Yan Huirou away.
Yan Huirou stumbled. Having leaned against Jiang Xidai for a while, she had regained some strength. This time, she surprisingly managed to stay on her feet. Then she heard a voice call out, “Wen Xianyin, take her away.”
Creak—
The sound of a door opening was heard, and the ever-reliable disciple, Wen Xianyin, appeared on command to support Yan Huirou.
After they left, the room fell silent.
Host’s emotional fluctuation detected.
Jiang Xidai’s mind was indeed in turmoil. She said coolly, “So, you’re saying that boy was supposed to be the one to save this girl. How did she end up latched onto me?”
Minor plot deviations that avoid the death of the male or female lead can still be self-corrected by the plot and are not within the system’s warning range. The host’s actions have indeed caused the plot to deviate, and a key node has shifted but not disappeared. The host’s first mission is to complete the chapter ‘First Meeting of the Male and Female Leads’ so that the subsequent emotional development between the characters can proceed.
The mechanical voice said politely, Happy cooperation. The mission reward is: 10,000 cultivation points. To ensure good cooperation, half can be advanced in advance. Host, please check for receipt.
Just as abruptly, a torrent of cultivation power, fierce as a flood, poured into her from the void.
Jiang Xidai had been stuck at a cultivation bottleneck ever since her last breakthrough. After all, her cultivation was already high enough that further progress was difficult.
She had never expected that this barrier would be so easily broken by the influx of power.
A comforting warmth spread through her limbs, rising with the beat of her heart.
She extended her hand and clenched her fist. A surging spiritual power gathered in her palm.
It seems this thing really has some ability.
However—
“And if I refuse?”
The system will erase the host’s existence.
A sharp pain pierced her heart.
The pain blurred Jiang Xidai’s vision for a moment, but for some reason, she did not seem frightened. The hand she had clenched tightly relaxed slightly. In her heart, she thought, So that’s how it is.
There are no free gifts in this world.
At least, fate had never offered her any.
Wen Xianyin supported Yan Huirou all the way, finally settling her in a side courtyard of the Shasheng Sect.
Perhaps the ointment applied to her body had taken some effect, as Yan Huirou’s spirits seemed to have lifted slightly. Her gaze lingered on the scenery of the Shasheng Sect. The place was quite at odds with its name; it did not look as grim as its name suggested. Instead, many red maple trees were planted, creating a sea of red that covered the mountains in the distance.
“Miss Yan,” Wen Xianyin’s tone was polite yet distant. “Please rest and recuperate here.”
Yan Huirou clutched a corner of her sleeve. She held onto the edge of the bed and sat down slowly. She moved carefully, but still felt some of the gashes on her leg tear open a little more. She nodded. Wen Xianyin placed some wound medicine on her bedside table. “Remember to apply it.”
Yan Huirou nodded again and leaned quietly against the headboard.
The autumn sun was still a bit dazzling, but having been imprisoned in the cave for so long, Yan Huirou had rarely seen such bright light. She felt the warmth filter through her eyelashes, painting the inside of her eyelids a shade of orange-red.
She stared blankly for a moment, then blinked gently.
Her gaze fell on the medicine bottle on the bedside table.
Yan Huirou hesitated for a moment. After Wen Xianyin had left, she picked up the medicine and went out the door.
