After I Died My Dao Companion Drowns in Endless Regret Chapter 20

Chapter 20

The next day.
Wei Yunshu rode her donkey alone into the floating island.
She was originally supposed to accompany Xie Zhichao, but the latter sent a flying letter full of apologies, saying she had encountered a junior sister who had stormed out in anger and she couldn’t get away for a while to look after her. Wei Yunshu didn’t pay it much mind; it was fortunate to hit it off with someone met by chance. As for whether they would meet again in the future, it was all fate, and there was no need to force it.
Unlike the luxury and splendor of Luoshui Divine Palace, the entire Sunset Floating Island exuded an extremely wild and bloody aura. The cultivators on the street came and went in a hurry, their auras vibrant and on the verge of erupting, as if they were constantly on the brink of battle. This also led to cultivators in the city fighting at the slightest disagreement. Within fifteen minutes of entering the floating island, Wei Yunshu witnessed this several times. She subtly avoided those areas to prevent being caught in the aftermath of the fighting.
“Fellow Daoist, fellow Daoist, do you want to buy some pills? This is the Dust Removal Pill, used to curb inner demonic thoughts.”
“This is the Illusionary True Spiritual Incense.”
“Come and see the formation plates.”

Shouts and cries entered her ears. Wei Yunshu looked up and saw a group of unkempt cultivators with grinning mouths hawking their wares. These were rogue cultivators adventuring in the Sunset Burial Mounds. When they took the Luoshui Divine Palace flying boat, a steward from the Luo family had offered a few tips, saying that these cultivators would do anything to earn elixir jade and mostly sold deceptive items. The steward’s tone was filled with disdain for these “dirt-scratchers,” but at this moment, Wei Yunshu felt that the steward’s words were a bit too harsh; at least seventy percent of them were genuine goods.
Seeing cultivators with abundant spiritual energy, these rogue cultivators assumed they were newcomers. They didn’t need to say anything; they swarmed forward like locusts, their voices as loud as thunderous roars. Such enthusiasm scared away many cultivators who had walked this way. They weren’t discouraged; their eyes darted around, finally landing on Wei Yunshu, who was riding a donkey.
“This fellow Daoist—”
Wei Yunshu waved her whisk. Before they could speak, she said gently, “I want to buy some news.” Her voice was neither too loud nor too soft, but it had a mysterious rhythm that easily suppressed the noisy buzzing. The scene fell silent for a moment. A thin cultivator squeezed out from the crowd, stroked his beard, and asked with a smile, “What news does fellow Daoist want?” His eyeballs rolled around, and his mustache twitched, making him look quite comical.
Wei Yunshu smiled faintly and said, “Taiyi.”
“You don’t even need to inquire about this. It’s in the Sunset Burial Mounds, in the hands of that evil cultivator named Zhou.” A burly man spoke boldly before the short one.
Wei Yunshu shook her head, her smile undiminished, “I’m asking about the source of the news.”
The short man chuckled and said, “Of course, someone saw Zhou Yuxiao using the Taiyi Sword.”
Wei Yunshu said softly, “Lies.” Upon hearing this, the short man’s expression stiffened, and as his gaze shifted, the pressure of his Golden Core peak realm leaked out, clearly intending to stop Wei Yunshu from pursuing further. However, Wei Yunshu, who was being pressured, remained as usual, only raising her left hand to stroke A’mang as a form of comfort.
“Does Your Excellency truly wish to know?” the short cultivator said, his tone growing cold.
Wei Yunshu nodded with a smile.
The short cultivator said “Good” several times, then said eerily, “Then please follow me, fellow Daoist.” He led Wei Yunshu through the streets and alleys, finally entering a narrow alley that seemed to have no end. They reached what appeared to be a simple courtyard.
Wei Yunshu looked up and saw the words ‘Knows but does not speak’ inscribed on the door, the ink already faded.
“You can inquire about any news you want at ‘Knows But Does Not Speak,’ but it means others can also tell the person involved about the news you inquired about. If you don’t have any skill, even if you have the news, you won’t have the life to take it. Fellow Daoist, how many chances do you think you have to survive?” The short man glanced at Wei Yunshu and then kindly added, “Fellow Daoist, it’s not too late to regret it now. Some things, once they happen, should not be inquired about. If people want to live long, they should learn to close their eyes.”
“But I cannot learn to close my eyes,” Wei Yunshu said calmly. A ray of white light flashed from the whisk in her hand and struck the beast-head door knocker. The tightly shut door creaked open, revealing a deep and dark world. Wei Yunshu put away A’mang and moved forward in the dark. After descending nearly a hundred steps, her vision suddenly brightened. Countless luminous pearls were embedded in the cold walls. In this dilapidated courtyard, it was surprisingly luxurious.
Wei Yunshu walked along a corridor that was like a sea of stars, passing by shops displaying pills, Dharma artifacts, and talismans without looking sideways, until she stopped in front of a strange shop with only a bowl-sized opening. She pursed her lips and raised her hand to knock on the opening. After a moment, an old voice came from within, “Buying or selling?”
Wei Yunshu raised her hand, took out a talisman, and wrote on it with spiritual energy. She then passed it into the opening.
She didn’t wait long before a jade slip flew out from the opening. Wei Yunshu threw in the prepared elixir jade without even looking at it.
This was a place where secrets spread freely. She bought secrets here but had no intention of staying for long.
When Wei Yunshu walked out of there, the sky was still bright. However, a sinister and cold wind blew from the narrow alley. Dark clouds instantly obscured the sunlight, leaving only a vast expanse of bleakness. Wei Yunshu’s expression remained unchanged. She did not pay attention to the shifting spiritual energy but walked forward with composure until a burst of brilliant silver light scattered before her eyes. She formed a hand seal with her left hand and swept her right hand with her whisk, scattering that patch of silver light.
She gazed at the black-robed cultivator blocking her path and chuckled lightly.
She bought secrets, and someone wanted to buy her life.
Dark red flames spread from the hem of the black-robed cultivator’s clothes. He silently raised his right hand and clenched his fist, and a long halberd burning with flames appeared in his palm. The silver needles he had thrown earlier were merely a probing attack. He stared coldly at Wei Yunshu in front of him, his eyebrows sharp and piercing. A desperate killer who had fought through mountains of corpses and seas of blood, paving his path to longevity with the lives of others. The brilliance of the halberd suddenly bloomed, and countless flames fell, the swirling airflow emitting sharp and piercing whistling sounds.
“Your Excellency should know that some things cannot be inquired about,” the black-robed cultivator’s voice was hoarse. Many people inquired about the Taiyi Sword, and there were several like Wei Yunshu, but none of them had been able to carry that secret out.
Wei Yunshu held her whisk, her expression calm and serene, unstained by dust. The crimson flames fell, but before they could get close, they were scattered by her protective spiritual light. She gently swung her whisk, and with a crack, the condensed spiritual energy halberd shattered.
This black-robed cultivator had mistaken Wei Yunshu for a casual Daoist and had not taken her seriously. However, after being struck by the light from her whisk, he immediately felt a tremendous pressure like Mount Tai pressing down. He secretly cursed and desperately urged his Golden Core, unleashing more spiritual energy. But even so, he was sent flying back several feet by a single whisk.
If the information provided hadn’t stated she was a definite Golden Core cultivator, he would have thought a Nascent Soul True Monarch had made a move.
A cold snort suddenly sounded.
“Fellow Daoist Bo is truly compassionate. Why are you dawdling? Just kill them directly.”
Following that, the sound of rushing water erupted. Misty water vapor hung in the air, and from it stepped a slender and graceful white-haired female cultivator. She wore a silver mask on half her face, revealing only a pair of cold eyes filled with killing intent.
Luo Lingfeng.
The name immediately leaped into Wei Yunshu’s mind.
Why was she here?
