Anyone with eyes present could see that Yue Jin’s cultivation was clearly no longer what it once was.
Perhaps she had comprehended some novel magic technique, but her cultivation was even greater than a year ago, and her spiritual energy stronger. Even the Chongxiang Sword Sect Leader would likely only be able to fight her to a draw.
Now, at this moment, this person stood here, saying she wanted the Chongxiang Sword Sect ’s Senior Sister to repay the humiliation she suffered a year ago.
Repay with what? Her life?
Yun Lingyue blocked in front of Fu Lingyi. Her sword was already unsheathed, scattering in the air, fierce like a demon beast. “You want to touch Senior Sister? Unless you step over my corpse.”
Evil Envoy raised her bell: “Overestimating yourself.”
Benevolent Envoy drew her bow: “As you wish.”
“Stop.”
Yue Jin stopped the two of them, allowing Wu Bei, who was fuming from all seven orifices, to let out a sigh of relief. She subtly raised an eyebrow and spared a glance for Yun Lingyue. “Don’t be agitated. This Esteemed One had no such intention.”
“This Esteemed One merely wishes to invite Fellow Daoist Fu as a guest of honor to Qingyuan Palace, to share tea and reminisce about old times.”
“She won’t go with you,” Yun Lingyue’s stance was unyielding. She was secretly thinking how to get Fu Lingyi to leave first. “Please give up on this idea, or just go die.”
Evil Envoy tilted her head and peered behind Benevolent Envoy, her voice neither loud nor soft. “Your wife is so fierce, you can’t communicate with her at all.”
“That’s not my wife!” Wu Bei lowered her voice, reaching out to cover Evil Envoy’s mouth. “My lord, will saying two less sentences kill you?”
Yue Jin remained silent, only looking at Fu Lingyi.
She wanted to hear even a little willingness, a little warmth, from her lips.
Fu Lingyi remained silent the whole time. Heaven knew how much she hated, and Heaven knew how much she wanted to say she was willing.
She wanted to go see Yue Jin, to ask why she had left back then.
To ask if the time they spent together was fake, if that night was also fake.
But with so many disciples present, she couldn’t take the risk and put everyone in danger.
Fu Lingyi pressed down on Yun Lingyue’s shoulder and pushed her behind her. “The disciples of Chongxiang Sword Sect are innocent. Burning down Qingyuan Palace back then was instigated by me alone. Everything I… did to you, was done by me alone.”
As she spoke, she drew her sword and held it horizontally before her eyes. The cold light was fully revealed, the sword’s surface reflecting her eyes.
“So, whatever you want to do, just direct it at me alone, Yue Jin.”
Yue Jin closed her eyes after hearing that.
She knew this would be the outcome. She also knew her expectations shouldn’t have existed.
She should have recognized reality long ago.
“Good.”
Yue Jin, in her dazzling red robes, stepped forward to the sound of jingling bells, walking closer to her. “Alright. You said this yourself.”
“Senior Sister, don’t!” Yun Lingyue knew the gap in their abilities and desperately tried to stop the duel between the two of them.
An arrow whizzed past her ear, shooting behind her and frightening the disciples around where the arrow landed, causing them to shout and dodge.
“Don’t move.” Benevolent Envoy was expressionless, still holding her bow.
“Benevolent Envoy!” Yue Jin flared up. “Put it down!”
“Esteemed One…”
Benevolent Envoy realized he had done something wrong and quickly retrieved the Cloud Chasing Arrow, not daring to act rashly again.
Wu Bei looked into the crowd opposite them, confirming Yun Lingyue was unharmed.
“Don’t hurt them!” Fu Lingyi was truly worried Yue Jin wouldn’t show any regard for their past connection and quickly stopped her.
Yue Jin’s lips pressed together tighter. “I won’t.”
“Come here, Fu Lingyi.”
Fu Lingyi still held her sword. She stepped forward step by step, only a few feet away from Yue Jin, before throwing the sword onto the ground.
She gave up resisting.
Not only because of the difference in strength, but also because…
She couldn’t bring herself to do it.
“You…” Yue Jin was instead stunned seeing her like this.
“Let my junior sisters leave, and guarantee you will never offend Chongxiang Sword Sect again,” Fu Lingyi stated her conditions. She could only gamble on that person’s hidden softness. “As for the rest, you can kill or flay me as you please.”
Yue Jin knew she couldn’t explain, nor did she plan to. Her cooperation like this saved her a lot of trouble.
“Benevolent Envoy, Evil Envoy, tie her up and take her away.”
The Chongxiang Sword Sect disciples protested loudly. Yun Lingyue roared. She didn’t want to see her Senior Sister taken away by demonic cultivators.
The last one taken away, Xiao Bei, was already dead. She didn’t want her Senior Sister to suffer the same fate.
“Demon! I’m the one you should hate!” Yun Lingyue rushed forward, getting in front of Fu Lingyi. She grabbed Yue Jin’s collar, her face full of hatred. “I was the one who burned your sect! Don’t get the wrong person!”
Yue Jin looked at her, who was now only inches away. Instead, she hooked her lips into a smile.
“Fine, then take her along too.”
“Wu Bei.”
Yue Jin bit out these two words with extreme clarity, scaring Wu Bei so much her voice changed. “Huh?”
“You take her, don’t lose her. Otherwise, This Esteemed One will hold you responsible.”
Yue Jin ignored the look under Wu Bei’s veil that threatened to eat someone alive. She pushed Yun Lingyue towards him. She reached out and pulled Fu Lingyi’s wrist, drawing her forward.
Their foreheads were only an inch apart. Their gazes intertwined.
“Please, Fellow Daoist Fu, move your esteemed self to Qingyuan Palace. This Esteemed One has long since prepared a feast. I hope Fellow Daoist does not find it beneath you.”
Benevolent Envoy and Evil Envoy attacked from left and right. They had long since prepared binding ropes that could suppress the bound person’s spiritual energy. They wrapped Yun Lingyue so thoroughly not even a drop could escape and tossed her to Wu Bei.
Wu Bei wanted to cry but had no tears. He lowered her head as much as he could, her heart full of prayers she wouldn’t recognize him.
Fu Lingyi had no intention of struggling.
Yue Jin took the binding rope handed to her by Evil Envoy and wrapped it around her wrist twice. Her movements were very serious, as if she were putting a delicate and beautiful bracelet on her.
After tying the other end of the rope to her own wrist, gently, tenderly, she clasped Fu Lingyi’s hand. Taking everyone, they flew back to Huaijin City.
Yun Lingyue was tied up completely and cursed the entire way, frightening Wu Bei like a quail. He very much wanted to bury her head deep into the ground.
Qingyuan Palace had been rebuilt, located on the cluster of mountains in Huaijin City. The palace halls were arranged majestically, yet were very low-key, so there was no need to worry about anyone coming to disturb them here.
Just as Yue Jin, holding Fu Lingyi’s hand, walked into the hall, Benevolent Envoy and Evil Envoy blocked the entrance, blocking the palace door and signaling Wu Bei to go back.
“Go back to your own palace.”
“It was Yue Jin who wanted her brought back!” Wu Bei lowered her voice and leaned forward, looking back at the fiercely shouting Yun Lingyue on the ground, then turning back and glaring at the two people. “Are you just dumping her on me?!”
Evil Envoy let out a snort. “The Esteemed One instructed that no one is to disturb her.”
“What about me then?”
Benevolent Envoy and Evil Envoy exchanged a look. A playful mood arose in the two of them, causing everyone present to feel a chill of fear.
Fu Lingyi followed that person’s steps, slowly walking towards the depths of the palace. Although the rooms here were layered deeper and deeper, the light was ample. The windows were bright and the tables clean. It didn’t look like a demonic sect, but rather like a scholarly academy hall.
“What will you do to Lingyue?”
Yue Jin walked ahead. Her expression was grim and uncertain. Unexpectedly, when they were finally alone, the very first sentence was about someone else.
She somewhat understood Fu Lingyi’s feelings under the lotus lanterns back then.
“This Esteemed One has given orders; she will not be harmed. They will obey.” Yue Jin led her into a spacious and magnificent palace chamber. With a slight wave, she closed the door.
She loosened the rope on Fu Lingyi’s wrist and retreated a little.
Now only the two of them remained. She had thought that after a year apart, Yue Jin would pour out a basketful of words from her stomach.
In reality, she couldn’t express a single sentence.
“Didn’t you say we were having tea and reminiscing about old times?” Fu Lingyi lowered her eyes. “Where is the tea, and where are the old times?”
If they were to reminisce, where should they begin? Should they start from the carefree days at Chongxiang Sword Sect ? Or from the beginning of their teasing, coming-and-going relationship?
Or perhaps, talk about her childhood playmate?
“I will have the disciples bring the tea. As for the old times…” Yue Jin’s eyes flickered. She wanted to come up with an excuse.
Now, even if she were given ten times the courage, she wouldn’t dare say that she had pretended to have amnesia back then to gain her trust.
What’s more, she had even run away the day before the wedding. Even if Fu Lingyi were a divine Bodhisattva descended to the mortal realm, she wouldn’t believe her even a tiny bit.
Yue Jin stood there in red. Before coming, she had clearly convinced herself she wouldn’t be swayed by this. Yet her heart was restless.
She shifted her tone. “As for old matters, I fear Fellow Daoist Fu would not be willing to reminisce with This Esteemed One. In that case, This Esteemed One also has no need to waste words.”
“How do you know I won’t?” Fu Lingyi approached her. The fresh fragrance wafting from her lingered around her side, as if she were deeply enveloped. “How do you know I won’t?”
Yue Jin’s imposing demeanor from moments before weakened considerably. She was forced back to the door, leaning against the door, her gaze having nowhere to settle.
“Yue Jin.”
“Why don’t you call me Lingyi?”
She felt Fu Lingyi’s cool hand grasp her wrist, while the other hand coiled around her waist like a wandering snake.
“Why should This Esteemed One do that?” Yue Jin’s voice was firm, refusing to expose herself even if it meant death.
Fu Lingyi saw through her attempt to pretend, but she wanted to test her, to see how long she could keep pretending.
“Don’t you remember?” She tightened the hand around her waist, pulling that person closer until she was right in front of her. “Back then, you loved to call me this, Lingyi, Lingyi. And you liked holding me like this, saying you wanted to be my dao companion for life.”
Yue Jin secretly reddened her ears. After a year apart, she could still so naturally say such embarrassing things.
“After This Esteemed One suffered qi deviation, I lost my memory. I don’t remember anything that happened after I began cultivation.”
“Oh,” Fu Lingyi drew out her voice, raising it higher. “Lost memory again. It seems Demon Lord Yue Jin’s memory comes and goes. It’s there when it should be, and gone when it shouldn’t.”
Seeing she didn’t believe her, Yue Jin steeled her heart and clasped her hand in return. “What does This Esteemed One’s business have to do with you?”
Fu Lingyi’s gaze was cold, staring into her eyes.
After a long while, she slowly said, “Indeed, my Chongxiang Sword Sect has never had any connection with demonic cultivators. Naturally, there will be no relationship between the two of us.”
These words, one by one, smashed against Yue Jin’s heart.
She knew this outcome would happen, but hearing it spoken personally from her lips brought a different kind of pain.
“Good that you know.”
Yue Jin released her hold. Although she had spoken harshly, her expression held a trace of sadness that was difficult to detect.
“Since you’ve come to Qingyuan Palace, you must abide by Qingyuan Palace’s rules.”
Seeing her so heartless, Fu Lingyi slightly hooked her lips, smiling bitterly. “Rules?”
“From today onwards, Fellow Daoist Fu will live here. Without This Esteemed One’s permission, you are not allowed to go anywhere.”
Yue Jin flicked her sleeve, causing a restriction array to encompass the entire chamber.
“By what right?”
“By the right that This Esteemed One has already cultivated to the Ninth Heaven,” She walked outside the chamber, her back to her, unwilling to look back. “In this world, no one will be This Esteemed One’s opponent any longer. Not to mention, Fellow Daoist has always been This Esteemed One’s defeated opponent.”
It’s actually imprisonment play, exciting! The misunderstandings are getting deeper and deeper.
